Fondest Memory of MMOs

Pking someone for an FBSS, GEBs, or platinum jewelry. I remember this one druid named Yarblek who led some RP guild on RZ. He was rocking all the best droppable gear at the time and my friend I got a lot off him.

Seeing someone use the dark elf illusion mask from Lguk after it was made rogue only. I thought that was so awesome. Same goes for manastone. I always thought people who had those items were such badasses.

I remember trying to get someone to give me /corpse at the time where /corpse gave you the ability to full loot their corpse. What an awesome game EQ was. or maybe it's just the nostalgia factor.

I was just about to move in 2003 and my guild (Legion) was doing Rathe Council with FoH. I was there most nights until we beat it. I logged off, moved house, and never played EQ again. I loved the way I finished that game and am so glad that I jumped into private beta (thanks, Sean!) for WoW rather than playing the disaster that was GoD with the totally I memorable characters with the ridiculous names.

Everquest was all about the socialization.

To this end, even some of the very simple things made for great memories.

When starting my gnome, I met this ranger and we grouped up. We were 7-9thish and slowly taking down various mobs near the zone line. Out of no where this lost cleric comes up to us and does the wave animation and says " Hey Guys" all happily. Just after his animation stops a person runs past us followed by about 5-6 skeletons. All I heard was "Crunch" and then the death sound from his character. I almost did not make it to the zone line because I was laughing so hard. The person I partnered with had to take 5 minutes to clean up the mess he made from spiting out his drink.

The best memory would have to be the use of the Beastlord trick for charm. It was fun playing the role of GM in a zone. Simply put, when the Beastlord first came out, there was a way to charm certain creatures and elevate thier level to 46. So I would use this trick in places like Oasis. 46th leveled pumas with SoW,thorns, breathe attack and all other druid buffs(Wife) made for a pretty good boss creature. The best part was when they killed it and in OOC you see the question " What did it drop"?......the answer "A pelt and some meat". Crushbone was just as fun...

The first moment that really made me say WOW! in Everquest was the very first time I ran from Qeynos to Freeport and came across the bridges in the Karanas. Their size just blew me away. I was hooked as fuck from that point on.
Ha, my exact memory too. My wife and I were basically following the path and out of the mist loomed this huge, fucking wooden bridge. We were both in awe. For some reason that has always stuck in my head. Oh along with my first encounter with a hill giant

Agreed... one of my best memories as well. Traveling from Freeport to Qeynos was always fun. I can't think of how many times I've ran into other players and spoke along the way. The Karana bridges were always cool but it just felt like an adventure going through towns, seeing random cottages along the way, going through caves (Runnyeye), and following river banks to avoid griffins, werewolves, and cyclops. Just cool all around.

I have shitloads of funny stories from EQ, but the ones that stick to me to this day was when I met a Dwarf Cleric named Warrick really early into the games launch.

The first time I saw this guy was when a group of us were grinding on Aviaks at the island in Lake Rathetear. Our healer had just logged, so one of the people in the group said he knew a cleric that would come out there.

rrr_img_75008.jpg

The guy makes it to the shore, and messaged us he was too scared to cross the lake because he swore Dwarfs couldn't swim, and he would sink like a rock. After we laughed abit, we told him that they wouldn't, but he still wouldn't budge from that shore.

So one of us went and picked him up in one of the wooden boats, and as hes escorted to shore the guy is freaking out in party chat. He kept saying im going to fall off the canoe, and sink to the bottom.
We are all laughing hysterically at that point, but what came next you couldn't even write a script for.

rrr_img_75009.jpg

He's getting closer to the Island, and all the sudden we hear in party chat "i'm going to make it! I'm going to make it!" Then we see the Giant Shark come out of the water and eat the boat completely. OMFG was it funny.

After that night, I swore I would always group with that cleric. Hes been in my gaming group for like a decade now, the coolest german guy I have ever met. He still makes me laugh till this day, the guy has like every phobia on the planet.

EQ was really the best game ever from a social experience. WoW was also a great game, better then EQ in allot of areas, but still EQ is the one I remember.

First time clearing NToV in SoV.
First time killing Aten Ha Ra in SoL.
Yog+0 in WoW:WotLK.

Hell, the fondest memory of any game I have ever had is probably the original EverQuest. Had been playing for a few hours and a magician from Shock of Swords opened trade with me while I was at Orc1 in EC. He handed me a few pieces of Bronze Armor and a Modulation Rod. Told me to equip the items, then use the rod. I did. I died. I never managed to get my body back and restarted a new character shortly after.

It was amazing.

1.) Illidan server first alliance Ragnaros kill in vanilla wow by Saga....Manowarr (a frequent poster here) was part of that team.... I was the GM of said guild. I did not record the video but I am the one talking most of the time.

Ragdown - YouTube

2.) Taking part in the developer driven events in the first 6 months of Asherons call. Having epic server wide events was just awesome...

Played a necromancer on Veeshan. Fondest memory was running Plane of Fear with Team JPN and the "-iae" folks at around 2am to get my epic weapon quest piece from Cazic Thule. Didn't know a single word the raid party was saying but was able to transcend the language and emoticon barrier by knowing the fights.

My first day playing EverQuest and got lost as a High Elf Wizard in Greater Faydark; a druid in wolf form help me find Felwithe. I remember how surprised I was knowing that the person who was whispering me was actually a wolf...?

In World of Warcraft just after the release of Burning Crusade we were three friends playing mid-twenties horde characters when a level 60+ dwarf priest (was riding level 60 mount) dropped and proceeded to dot us but we managed to beat the crap out of him; it was as much shocking to him as it was for us.

That reminds me of a time where a lower level guild mate was in Desolace and being harassed by some Horde. I'm pretty sure I was level 50 Hunter at the time and I was an Engineer so I had that water breathing helm. I threw that on and hopped into one of the shallow pools that was around where my guildie was and the Horde never knew what hit them. It was 3 Horde running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They never thought to look into the water. lol

Getting the first ever Emperor SSRA kill when we were racing with FoH to get it. We (Triton) were doing really well, had him at about 25% or so, tank order going well (this was the death-touching version). I dragged a dead tank out to be ressed, but forgot to change my hotkey page back to my spells. I hit the key for whatever spell I intended to cast but ended up Exodusing my group of six wizards to the zone line. Guild still ended up killing him, we got two robes (which I would have gotten one), blah blah. I have never lived that shit down to this day.

Most of my fondest gaming moments were from Everquest 1. My third day playing I made some friends in the half elf starting dungeon, blackburrow I think, and they convinced me to put everything I owned in the bank and run to the human town with them. I didn't really understand the concept of zones and up until that point, the entire game had occurred within a very small area, so I was simply filled with awe as we made our way from zone to zone avoiding horrifying flying monsters and trying not to get lost. I think I was pretty much sold that day and didn't quit for 3 years.

EQ -
*Jacking some guys bronze armor at like level 2. I assured him I would bring his corpse right back to him, and instead looted it and went and found a group. Guy hated me. Caps lock and all. I would too, to be fair, but... God I was a dick when I first started playing. I dont know if it was The Realm or Ultima Online that made me take advantage of people so bad but its stuck with me to this day. Makes me laugh every time I think of it.

*Avatar of War battle, but that was more of just an accomplishment raid cause I really only stared at fucking feet the entire time. "What are you guys killing tonight man? Im not sure, but its feet are purple." But server first and all that Epeen shit. We werent too far behind world first anyways.

*We raided nToV the night before, up until 5:30/6am. Stayed up to go to school. When I got back on, we did something else that spawned and by that time I was just kind of numb but didnt really care. Some people wanted to farm wToV and only one other tank wanted to go so I said I would come. Im watching ShowEQ and everything was fine, really. Nothing was up and we were... lets just say easy going. Then it happens, I wake up and people are dying. Somehow the guild had pulled Telk into the fucking cubby and we were getting fucked up. The SK tank with me was dead. How could shit go this wrong?!?! Sticking with my cheating roots, I pulled his ass back into the hallway. Stuck my ass all up in a fucking wall and face tanked him. Since I was in the wall I never got hit with an AoE and he was positioned so that I could get healed but the healers wouldnt get hit either. We downed Telk with maybe 12 people. Cheating like a motherfucker, but we didnt wipe! Last time we did the wall, I got a shit load of negative feedback. This time, not a single fuck was given and I was hated on for falling asleep and praised in the same sentence. Epic f'n night in my book.

Dark Ages of Camelot - Just being in a particular zone down below Camelot and just really "feeling" the zone. Like, totally enjoying the swamp and the ruins. That area was just awesome in my mind and its not often that I feel that way in an MMO.

WoW - When we killed Ragnaros back in classic. Then twins in AQ. Then Four Horsemen in Naxx. Burning Crusade was cool, but after classic.. nothing has really stuck with me for a long period of time. The same can be said for most other MMO's Ive played.

Couldn't choose just one. Sorry.

EQ
- Making the trek at level 8 from North Ro to Upper Guk and asking if I could loot the silver-plated leggings that dropped
- The music from Freeport docks (actually the entire EQ soundtrack. Shit brings me right back)
- First time arriving at the docks in Butcherblock Mountains
- Trying to make it out of Kithikor Woods before nightfall
- Hanging out at the North Ro plat/docks in Oasis

Asherons Call
- Running for hours from one side of the map to the other with a couple friends trying to do my hollow weapon quest. No zoning!

UO
- Spending the entire day either fishing or mining
- The sound those deer make when you hit attack them

Everything about EQ, from day 1 on. Starting as a high elf in Felwithe and finally having the balls to follow the path to Kelethin, to orc hill, to crushbone, to my first trip on the boat to Freeport, to the huge ass trek the whole way to Qeynos to farm for a GBS, to befallen, to the oasis, to Unrest and Mistmoore, to guk, to nagafen, to the plane of hate (probably the first time there was the most thrilling, scariest moment in the history of video games), to the plane of fear (equally as scary), and everything that followed. I miss that game, I miss those friends/guild mates, and I feel sorry for the people that never got to experience it.
