Nah, back then I also played with arrow keys and we were ranked #1 in rocket arena for a while. I think women just aren't capable of being sweaty enough.

I've always used the arrow keys to play games. Still do and I'm well above average in FPS games.
I'm a bit more strange than just using those keys, I also lay the keyboard in my lap vertically so I can lean back in my chair to relax while gaming. It drives my best friend absolutely nuts because it looks so unnatural to him, but I have zero problems gaming.

I used to as well like back in the later 90s when I began PC gaming including shit like doom1 . But then I ran into games that needed more than direction keys, they needed other buttons for skills, pots, whatever the fuck, and this is where the direction keys fail, they are not close to the other keys for hot buttons.

yeah I did the arrow keys in Doom1, hell I used a flight stick type joystick for a while. Then someone , I believe it was Logitech, released this really nice fitted mouse that was right hand only. I really did this, I called their 800 support # and asked could they make me a left handed version. After they stopped laughing they said no. I bought the mouse anyway and learned to play right handed via 8,000,000 games of solitaire. I'm a bit ambidextrous now thanks to that and can almost type due to EQ.

I use the Del/End/PgDn bank as well as the numpad for hotkeys. For games that need more than 8-10ish hotkeys, I just use a modifier like shift/control to double/triple them.
The seasons I made Gladiator in WoW I remember having a ridiculous number of keybinds. Several had multiple modifiers. I specifically remember Control+PgDn+Numpad 1 being my focus polymorph key. My mouse also quite a few binds.
It probably sounds incredibly weird, but it works really well for me. I've tried playing with the traditional WASD multiple times, but it just doesn't work. After 40 years of PC gaming like this it would take a monumental effort to rewire my muscle memory.
It's a little annoying that I have to rebind all the keys for every game I play and there have been a few that don't allow you to change binds that I had to refund. Monster Hunter being the one I remember the most.

we played doom, blood then duke nukem 3d with the keys all retarded. i think arrow keys for movement and like SDF for the other keys. speed door fire? i think?
anyway the guy who owned the gaming establishment we lan-gamed duke at...that man used mouse and keyboard and he absolutely atomic elbowed us left and right. it may have been his business model dunk on middle schoolers for a dollar. so then i played through WC3, C&C, got better at mouse and FINALLY learned to use mouse to shoot. i forget what the first game i played that way was.
So i'm making sure my child doesn't waste time the wrong way. at 4 i got her one of those "click the hidden cat games".
