On the one hand, genshin includes every greedy money grubbing mechanic you can fit in a game, on the other hand, it's actually a pretty good game apart from that. There's an awful lot of gameplay that isn't thinly veiled illegal gambling, almost all of which is 100% accessible to the starter characters for people with even moderate action gaming skills.

Spending is not necessary for anything in game. If there's no linked payment option the only reason I would be uncomfortable with kids playing it is that it normalizes cash shops and rich people being better than you, not matter how good you are.
They wouldn't even know just from the game. It's basically single player, it's easy. If the kids wander out into the internet, then yeah I guess. But just from the game, it doesn't really push for sales like many mobile games would.

Hello everyone, new user here.

I'll probably spend quite a lot of time in this thread.

Cheers.

Long watch but really good.

TLDR: The Genshin English voice actors went on a wildcat strike refusing to do voice acting for the game claiming it was for AI protection but really it was to force Genshin to become a union only voice acting project. This opened up a bunch of Reddit types to the fact that unions can suck and are not always good.

SAG/AFTRA is a union I do not like, and I say this as a member of an IATSE local that's also part of Hollywood. They are very strict about what kinds of projects their members are allowed to work on and many of their policies have the effect of preventing their new/unknown members from receiving work.

The one thing that I appreciate them for is they they're ruthless in their contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Both SAG/AFTRA and IATSE renegotiates contracts with them every 3 years, but SAG/AFTRA's cycle puts their negotiations one year before us. It's very convenient for us to let whatever drama play out between SAG/AFTRA and the AMPTP and then for us to come in the next year, ask for the same exact things, and have them all granted based on precedent. Still, if I were an actor, I would hold off on joining SAG/AFTRA for as long as I could.
