Yeah, well, I mean, those things happening 100+ years ago, it would mean local or regional hardships for a while, but most of society would just keep going. Now... something like that could fuck over the entire global economy, and something like a Carrington event could be interpreted by some of our most advanced automated Early Warning equipment as a nuclear strike which could inadvertently lead to nuclear war.

Mount Shasta is releasing gas and debris from a vent on its flank. I wonder if it will turn into an actual eruption or if it's just a pocket.
This guy verifies it vs the offical reports.
Might need to rewind it a little.

A friend's family is in Turkey, fortunately out of the worst-hit regions. This is nearly a worst-case combination of slip-fault, high magnitude, at night, and directly under poorly-prepared population centers with ancient construction standards.

They got nailed not just by a 7.8 Earthquake, but also later a 7.5 aftershock. Pretty crazy!
