Word on the street is Littlefinger is still alive and that it wasn't him that died but a faceless man that helped him fake his own death. He's simply way to smart to have died in the way he did. He's literally portrayed as the most conniving master of deception in the Got universe and is the person that pretty much single handedly started the events from the stories beginning. He knew Arya was a faceless and that she wants him dead and Bran straight told Littlefinger that he knew he betrayed Ned which instantly sounded the alarm bells. There's no fucking way that Littlefinger stayed there knowing he was inches from death. So either we are to believe the writers went full retard and killed off the most devious character in all of GoT in a massively idiotic fashion or Littlefinger faked his death through some sort of deal with the faceless and is now lurking in the shadows and pulling the strings unseen.

How exactly? The entire story of GoT is set into motion by Baelish. He's proven to be many steps ahead of everyone and plays multiple sides. For him to still stay after Bran basically tells him he knows he betrayed his dad makes zero sense. We're to believe the evil genius that masterminded basically the entire plot of GoT died like a dumb ass, staying in a place he knows he's dead in. That's about as retarded as it gets.

He's never been multiple steps ahead of everyone, he's been able to adapt and manipulate on the fly to his advantage and to not die, he didn't intend for the epic shitstorm of GoT to turn out anywhere near what it has. Also, the writers DID go full retard the past couple seasons, the writing has been utterly inexcusable, so it's entirely possible that cheese-comic-level "oh it really wasn't him" fake death is possible but in a handful of episodes there's already a ton of terrible writing to cover without even introducing that nonsense.
Even in comparison to just the show, the writing has been shallow and wtf level. I started watching because I figured I'm never going to get closure from the books but it diverged so hugely from S05 or so that it's not even the same story anymore beyond some token appearance.

It's not the first time he's overstepped, or thought he was in control.
LF does well manipulating those that are not really "playing the game" or who aren't very good at it. But even from their famous "Chaos is a Ladder" scene/speech, it always seemed to me that Varys was the craftier of the two schemers...and that Baelish would inevitably overreach.

I think the whole point of his demise was to show his own arrogance of how well he thought he could manipulate people. He thought he could turn sisters against each other, and even though they are on very different paths it showed the inner loyalty between two of the few remaining Starks.
