I always thought the Government would get involved if they found a way to create some lines to tax it higher, in the vein attempt at being "concerned for the well being of it's constituents". I do not think M ratings for games does a damn thing as it stands today, although I think more parents are taking note. I have some buddies that are locking things down on parental controls for their kids but they are pretty young. They just want to make sure their kid doesn't fire up GTA 5 by mistake.

With that said, I am glad it's making this much noise. Far Cry 5 just got delayed so Ubisoft could rework their entire MTX strat.

Mr Hawaii has gotten support from Senators in 5 other states now. Looks like this is picking up some steam.

Not a fan of the government regulating what asshole companies put in their games.

Nerds just need to have some goddamn self control and stop buying games that put in shitty money grabbing mechanics.

BUT ITH THE NEW THAR WARTH GAMETH!

I can't say I would really mind as long as they keep to what seems to be the current plan of just making the RMT gambling mechanics a 21+ sale only.

Nerds are the same as anyone else when it comes to gambling and addictions. Better to regulate it now before people start knocking over liquor stars to get their next loot box.

If they did that though, the games would still be illegal in states like Nevada, where what constitutes "gambling" is incredibly strict.

With that said I hope no one thinks I'm on the pro side of regulating this as proposed based on what I said in the past in this thread. I simply view this as a 2 point issue, and both points are legitimate. Doing crap like "you have to be 21+ to buy lootboxes" is retarded.

I see no downside there. My ideal would be to make this lootbox practice so unprofitable that they abandon it entirely.

Yes because casinos requiring people to be 21 years old prevents people from doing stupid shit to gamble...

Yeah, then every single game that gets released will go back to being 100+ hours of playtime masterpieces that are perfect in every way! Maybe they can even drop the price point of games to $9.99 cause who cares about profits anyways.

Oh maybe they could do things like a normal corporation and raise prices but don't let me get in to way of your hyperventilating histrionics.

Elected officials are probably angry that they get no money currently from the video game industry since there is little to lobby for/against.

Anyone who thinks it should be okay to have loot boxes in games for kids is just wrong. These companies are being greedy shits, and now all gamers are going to take a dose of shit because ea and friends couldn't control their hubris. It would be better for everyone if these companies were reasonable, but we all know they aren't.

No, it would be best if all these companies started up online casinos and give people actual real money, instead of hiding gambling inside of loot boxes. Leave us be, give the gamblers what they fucking want, leave gamers alone.
