It's a simple 2d game with kinda shit tier cartoonish graphics. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea to begin with. It's certainly not going to garner elden ring or bg3 levels of hype.
It's certainly not genre defining or breaking or whatever. It's very meh.
First Hades wasn't revolutionary in gameplay (while still very good), but the detail of the stories where 50++ hours into the game, you still kept having fresh voice lines and story in every run wasn't something any game in the genre had done. This is the same, but from what I understand, even more/larger.
Art style is their style, 2nd game looks like the first. Don't think anyone wanted the sequel to look like anything else. Other than that, it runs perfect, has lots of weapons that all function differently that you can change 3 ways each which also alters playstyle and boons. It would never garner ER or BG3 hype, it's not in the same league. But in the rogue-like genre Hades 1-2 doesn't really have competitors in terms of what they supply in terms of a story + gameplay.
Not played since early launch on EA, started fresh file now. Done Chronos once, but forgot just how much boons matter for some weapons. Skulls and wands I just can't get working properly yet. I can get to the end, but by then I either severely lack in DPS or survivability. But daggers / axes are much more generous in terms of still being good while the build isn't perfrect. Did Chronos with a dagger dodge dash-attack build. Still spent 3x death defies on him. I still don't know the boons well enough to know exactly how to build them, and I'm still taking the prophecy ones when they come up which sometimes are useless for the current build.
Have not been able to beat the last boss in Olympus. His DPS seems higher than Chronos.
