Half-priced sequel game getting high marks that then gets review bombed, sounds like it is as good as the first one. Modding looks a little weird but some are simple drag and drop lua file replacements.

I'm about 6 hours in (with some afk time) and am enjoying it just as much as I enjoyed the original. I haven't played Super Giant's entire catalogue, but I haven't played anything of theirs that I regretted buying.

Got to Chronos with the skull but sadly my hammer ability was retrieving the skulls triggered the powered attack explosion. Having to be melee range for damage without knowing the patterns hurts.

It's a simple 2d game with kinda shit tier cartoonish graphics. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea to begin with. It's certainly not going to garner elden ring or bg3 levels of hype.

It's certainly not genre defining or breaking or whatever. It's very meh.

It's like 94 on metacritic, it's doing well enough. Not every game needs the scope of Elden Ring or BG3, saying as someone whose favorite game is Elden Ring.

I made it to chronos a couple times now. Decent fight, not as memorable as Hades was from the first game.

I haven't touched Olympus yet though.

First Hades wasn't revolutionary in gameplay (while still very good), but the detail of the stories where 50++ hours into the game, you still kept having fresh voice lines and story in every run wasn't something any game in the genre had done. This is the same, but from what I understand, even more/larger.

Art style is their style, 2nd game looks like the first. Don't think anyone wanted the sequel to look like anything else. Other than that, it runs perfect, has lots of weapons that all function differently that you can change 3 ways each which also alters playstyle and boons. It would never garner ER or BG3 hype, it's not in the same league. But in the rogue-like genre Hades 1-2 doesn't really have competitors in terms of what they supply in terms of a story + gameplay.

Not played since early launch on EA, started fresh file now. Done Chronos once, but forgot just how much boons matter for some weapons. Skulls and wands I just can't get working properly yet. I can get to the end, but by then I either severely lack in DPS or survivability. But daggers / axes are much more generous in terms of still being good while the build isn't perfrect. Did Chronos with a dagger dodge dash-attack build. Still spent 3x death defies on him. I still don't know the boons well enough to know exactly how to build them, and I'm still taking the prophecy ones when they come up which sometimes are useless for the current build.

Have not been able to beat the last boss in Olympus. His DPS seems higher than Chronos.

Beat Chronos for the first time, pretty sure it wasn't an intended build that could do it but things happened...

Been a while since I played EA. I got chronos with Axe and Aphrodites spin boon.

What's a good weapon to try besides Axe?

For the pure base weapons, I find daggers and staff the easiest to build up. For daggers, backstab and dash upbrades. Staff works best with the omega attack with the line which does very good damage and is fairly easy to build. The cloak weapon I just can't get the first aspect to even get past the first few guardians. Base damage is just so low and the attack (rapid hits) just feels like a 1/3rd damage dagger. I know one of the skull aspects can make some very high damage builds using the special. It might be the normal one, I've never gotten it though. Some of the builds kind of need you to know what boons to get and build around that using the different trinkets.

For upgrades that I've tried. Wands, I just did my first run with those and easily killed Chronos. Parry daggers are very good if you get the timing down.

My friend beat it on his very first run. That seems autistic.

If you don't know, on the cloak you're "blocking" while charging the omega attack which gives frontal immunity. Worth it to get everything on one side of you and charge it up since it also hits pretty damn hard

I wasn't sure about this one as there's a lot of things I didn't like about it despite being a fan of the original, but it was sort of a must-buy for me on the Switch 2. Glad I did because it plays as good as ever and the rogue-like nature keeps every run feeling fresh with new things to experiment with. I like this a lot more than Hollow Knight Silksong, feels more accessible and it's not so annoying about repetitive challenges nor does it have the "so where do I go now" issue I can often have playing HK. Just good pacing all around with satisfying gameplay.

I watched a streamer play it and the gameplay looks as good as ever.

But goddamn, the dialogue (and voice acting) is insufferable. All of it. Every single time someone was talking it felt like forced garbage.

Maybe I’m desensitized but I haven’t noticed bad voice acting. The dialogue can be strained at times because they’re all in on revealing the plot in cohesive chunks - to mixed success. But I personally haven’t found it insufferable 😅🤷‍♂️

edit: got chronos down for the first time last night with the axe and stacking ridiculous attack boons (Aphrodite, Apollo, two hammer upgrades, and some curses - hitch, gale, weak - to ensure origination Arcana card is active). It was still close because I opted for Strength card instead of death defiances.
