Your local drug store sells heating pockets with holders that you can put on to have heat on the area all day. You mentioned a work conference. If that involves an airplane, put this on AFTER you go through the screening. I usually pop into a bathroom.
Whatever you do Don't let them operate.
My disc replacement was great have me my life back. He doesn't probably need but someone's it's worth the risk

FWIW, its doing quite a bit better. Although sitting much of day was rough at times, it did give the back a chance to rest. Ended up picking up some Tylenol on the way home and that was a big help, haven't had any pain once i took some of those mid afternoon. Been a long time since I've taken Tylenol, i usually just stick with Advil. using the heating pad this evening has been nice as well, ill see how the next few days go if I want to pickup the heating pockets or not.

I'm thinking ill be ok once i give the back a few days to rest and relax; but this has definitely pushed me into getting back into the gym. I fell out of it during Covid and then after I moved into my new house, i lost the convenience of having the gym just a 2 min walk from my apt, but I really need to lose a bit of weight and get back into better shape.

Had trouble getting a CGM at a good price because MA law specifically bans some manufacturers coupons. Doctor first tried libre 3 and I'm not paying $250 a month so then he tried dexcom g7 and that went through. $30/month for those with insurance. Gonna give it a shot next week.

Any tips for those who use them?

Get some big bandaids that will last through a few showers to put over the sensor, since you will be wearing it for 1-2 weeks at a go. The extra support will help keep them from popping out early.

So some good news folks: went yesterday for my now bi-yearly MRI and it's all clear. Those things last 20ish minutes with you laying flat with your head in a cage. Fell asleep at least 3 times.

Today is also 2 years since I took my last chemo. FUCK CANCER!

The only problem I had with Dexcom is sright at the start of covid they moved their sensor production from CA to AZ and shortly after I had sensor problems but it went away after a while.

They make things you can buy to put over the sensor for swimmng or whatever that are self stick. I've never had a problem.

Thanks. I ordered a pack to go with it. I'm flying to Austin Sunday so thought it might be a good time to start.

BMI is fake and gay but as of today I'm in "normal" range. Hit 194 this morning.

If your endocrinologists has you send them the results over the their site it's possible you can skip some appointments depending on what your results say. When I started using it my problem was not keeping mny A1C it was not waking up when it dropped. Anyway she said they look to get 68% time in normal range (not high or low) when you first start. Mine was 98% which went along with my A1C of 5.2. But the good news is she didn't require a follow up every 3 months. So now it's once a year and the last few have been phone appointments while she looks at the chart.

If you have to have a MRI you can conntact dexcom and they have always sent me one free to replace the one I took out before the MRI. I guess there is a limit to how often you can do that but until a year ago or so it was once a year. My doctor recommended it and she might have sent them something to prove it, not sure.

Results have been really good at my last appt so I'm also at a once per year visit. However since I'm on Mounjaro and removed a bunch of meds they're checking my a1c every few months to make sure no wild swings happened. Partially why I wanted a CGM was to really know what's happening.

Right now I'm just on metformin and mounjaro, down 3 or 4 other pills. Definitely can't eat like an asshole.

Sorry I'm blogging again. Took my trip to Austin and outside a few small things I stayed in range basically the entire time (97%). Having the Dexcom really puts so much into perspective. I feel that immediate accountability is forcing me to make better choices knowing if I don't it's going to skyrocket.

They want me to go for my a1c again next month so hoping it's really good. I dropped 3 diabetes pills, so if I can maintain or do better without them I will finally feel I'm on the right path.

it was a good news / bad news day.
good
had my yearly follow up with my urologist. xray only showed one stone of note, that might be small enough to pass normally. where did the bigger stones go that they saw last year, no idea.
bad
prostate is enlarged to the point a procedure is warranted. she talked about (pretty sure) Prostatic Urethral Lift, stick stuff up the penis and like curtains pin the blocking tissue to the bladder. she also talked about Transurethral Resection once again, up the penis, but with a loop of hot wire that shaves the blocking tissue off.

Keep your blood checking stuff. I use Dexcom and maybe twice a year I'll get a sensor that shows the right blood glucose compared to checking my blood manually. But suddenly it will be fine for several days and then suddenly go from 120 to 40 in 5 minut es and then too low to read. No way even my fast acting insulin would drop it that fast . Just one of those things that happens I guess. Then an hour later it's back to normal if I don't change it out.
