I’ve been doing a rewatch of the Highlander series and boy it is pure 90s amazing cheese. Duncan is knocked unconscious like every episode and luckily there are no other Highlanders around to lop his head off. Sword fights that swap to grainy black and white, slo mo, synth soundtrack. Just abysmal acting by almost everyone, Adrian Paul is serviceable season 2 but wow, everyone else is super bad.

Haven’t watched this since it was originally airing so should be fun. I just finished Seaquest DSV/2032 and that show was a DISASTER.

Yeah, they don't hold up at all. Was mindless fun when they aired though.

I never watched the series. The Fabio lookalike was just too cheesy for me.

Did they ever expand on any lore? I know all the sequels were ridiculous garbage but the TV show seemed more grounded like the original motion picture. Like getting their head blown off by a Shotgun or a normie Mexican mafia bro with a machete couldn't kill them?

Just wait, you will love Xena warrior princess. Do not also forget to watch Hercules.

Those two shows are the pinnacle of fine acting.

Oh I’ve done both of those. Last year or the year before when our middle son was born and I needed late night baby feeding/rocking TV. I actually thought they held up fairly well and enjoyed pretty much the whole run of if I remember correctly. Some other thread has my thoughts on Andromeda and what a train wreck that was.

All those shows and cheesy 80s-90s movies we all grew up with have a special place in my heart. Say what you want about them but they were all pretty much low budget, new for the time, made for us kids/teens and better than 3/4 of the slop that we have now coming to us. I mean Lucy Lawless? Shit she was the milf everyone wanted to bang.

I rewatched all of that shit awhile ago. Xena and Hercules are on par with the original Star Trek for me - yes, admittedly campy, and low budget SFX, but the writing is decent enough, and it's just good fun.

Highlander on the other hand didn't hold up at all - and this is coming from a guy who bought all 7 seasons on VHS. That shit is nigh unwatchable with how bad it is. Not really sure what's wrong with it either - I mean, evil of the week certainly gets old, it's pretty formulaic, but it almost like there's nothing in the series to give a shit about at all.

Beastmaster was another great show like Xena and Hercules.

I could never handle that stupid fucking Xena scream. But Joxer the Mighty was fun. Heh

The Highlander TV series was fine in its day. I liked the Lore of how some Legends were created by Immortals, like the Riders of the Apocalypse.

MILF? No... she was the hot neighbor or coworker you wanted to bang. She was 27 when Xena came out (with Gabrielle).

Always thought Zena was kinda uggo especially with that dumb haircut. Her little sidekick could get it though.

I really enjoyed the first Highlander film, iconic. The rest made no sense to me. Couldn't stand the show except for the Joan Jett episodes.

Hercules and Xena weren't really my thing. But the few shows I saw came from the right place and were watchable. They certainly aged better than most of the content from back then.

The "problem" with the show, was they had no real.... /way/ of showing "power" increase even if subtle.. I am sure there is some writing or something, but the quickening is to give them their skills and knowledge etc.

There is a few times they mention things or he knows this or that- heck Endgame was all focused on it- and that really put a break in it - because its difficult to show "how" or "what" the immortals gained from taking heads the quickening etc. Duncan kills off some really really old guys and, eh, see ya next week when I flubber around for 30min then get my act together.

They really do not seem that /wise/ or even /smart/ - look at Mythos (I do love mythos) but he still is quite incompetent for being a few grand old.
