Story reminds me of a kid who tells a long drawn out story and leaves out several key points and then at the end says "umm but XXX and YYY and oh yeah ZZZZ" while stammering about to make it all work out.

I think this is the worst ending I've seen. Dexter had already slid into shittiness so we weren't really invested in the characters anymore and while the ending was dumb and completely against everything they had built up to, no one gave a shit. Lost had declined as well, and the ending was disappointing, but at least it was one that you had to think about for a little bit to decide if you thought it was terrible.

HIMYM, however, was an instantaneous, "Are you fucking kidding me?!" At least for me, but I think plenty of others shared that opinion. The posts here and elsewhere on the internet immediately after the show were almost universally negative. While the show had been declining, at least you could point to stuff like Barney and Robin and say they had experienced growth as characters that paid off...until they just shit all over it with the divorce and then Ted going back to her.

I can find at least halfway legitimate reasons to not *completely* hate the Dexter and Lost endings. Dexter's ending is definitely very close, because of the same buildup of character growth that got thrown away, but I can't find a single reason not to hate HIMYM.

Both shows would have been 100% better if they stopped the ending just a little bit earlier. Dexter should have just died in the storm, and Ted should have been standing under the yellow umbrella with the mother. End them both there, and we aren't having this conversation.

So the spinoff, is that from the perspective of the mother that met Ted?

I felt most of her backstory was also represented last season. We already know the conclusion at least, and it isn't some mystery who it is. It's a story of how she met one of the most duchy people of all time. Ted is easily the worst of the bunch.

The first seasons were fun. The last season was some of the worst TV I have ever skipped through with a Mass Effect 3 comparison worthy ending.

I think Dexter still wins worse finale, just on the strength of previous seasons.

Plus I never watched this show. It seemed like the story of three metrosexuals and the women who love to tolerate them, to me.

I would probably watch "How I met your Father" though. It would be a glorious three episodes of shamefully undisguised pandering and utter filth (filth doesn't have to be porno guys!) before it was cancelled.

We're talking A Guy, Two Girls, and a Pizza place levels of terrible.

Unless there was some spinoff I'm unaware of, I'm assuming you mean Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place with Ryan Reynolds. And if that is the case, I think we're going to have to duel at dawn, good sir!

I think I wrote the wrong name. Two Broke Girls? Something like that. I watched one episode of it last year (So it wasn't Two Guys, A Girl...). But it was in a pizza place.

Yeah, here it is.2 Broke Girls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That show is fucking awful. People who like it probably sniff their own farts for entertainment. Like I mean more than normal people do. A brain damaging unhealthy amount of fart sniffing.

Yea I liked that show too. Wasn't the pizza place owner Bowler from Brisco County? imdb could tell me but it's like a whole tab away.

I've actually seen differing rumors, but as I understand it, it will be a completely new cast. Greta Gerwig has been cast as the lead, so if the HIMYM mom is in it, the show doesn't center around her. Possible rumor is it will center around Barney's Baby Moma.

Either way, I don't have high hopes. How often does a sitcom spinoff work? Frasier and...?

Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy (both spun off from Happy Days), Stargate: Atlantis, Rhoda, The Simpsons just off the top of my head.

Does the Simpsons count? It was a segment on the Tracy Ullman show. So I guess it does count.

Stargate: Atlantis was a sitcom?
I missed the sitcom part. Doesn't matter, though, because there have been plenty of successful sitcom spinoffs. I'll never write off a show just because it's a spinoff. Especially given how much garbage we get that is "original."

They should of gone with a spinoff before this garbage ended. They could of been into it a season or two already with a established fan base. Trying to do a spin off now after that ridiculous ending is going to bite them in the ass. Best way I can think of to tell the writers to go fuck themselves is to not watch their new show.
