I'm dicking around in it right now, it basically feels like a brand new game.

To the point where Im starting to wonder if they updated the tutorial and if I should fire that up

Had a chance to put in a few hours in it over the past few days. Definitely feels like a brand new game. A lot less zergy and a lot less tedious. The military part has been completely redone. The battle themselves are still the same, but the planning, recruitment, etc. needs to have a lot more thought put into it than just "build 5 stacks of 20k each"

The research trees also add another layer of planning and strategy and now you need to hit certain techs to unlock certain features. E.g. you cant build more than 1 army until you research a tech that needs like 9 prerequisites.

New UI looks really nice

Seems to be the norm with new PDX games now, they release a new game or new iteration of a game and it's a garbled mess til they finally do a 2.0.

Doesn't surprise me. It's been a bit of a bastard child, trying to be a bit of everything of the others and failing at them all.
