I think this is true any time you are dealing with any type of fantasy type sex. Break out the blindfolds and restraints and you'll see a similar thing. Nothing really exciting going on with my divorce. I submitted the "Default" paperwork last Friday, which was the 21 day point from the initial filing, which is what's required. So, now case progresses. We have to attend and get a certificate from a co-parenting class next week, otherwise everything's still fine.
I do think this was the perfect age to do it for my kids though, 5 and 3. I know there is a ton of "The kids know more than you think" mentality, but when we presented it to them we did so by driving up to the house my wife is renting and going "Do you guys think this house looks cool? Well guess what, mommy is going to move into this house and it's going to be her house! Does that sound fun? Daddy's going to stay at the house we live at now, and we are just going to have two houses, one for mommy and one for daddy, and guess what? You guys get to have your own room at both houses! Do you like that idea? Yeah, and we are just going to take turns. Sometimes you guys will stay at mommy's house, and some times at daddy's. Is that a good plan?" and they LOVED it. We are coming up on two weeks living apart now, with 0 problems. It's definitely a lot more work doing everything by myself, but I'm handling it fine.
I was worried it was going to be a lot tougher on her than it was me, but I've had to call her to touch bases on one thing or another a couple of times now, and I thought it would also be a little excuse to let her talk to the kids, which would be nice for her, that was my thinking. Every time I've called though? She was out with friends at some event or party, so it seems like she is also doing just fine, and really made any uncertainty or guilty feelings I've had dissipate.
So yeah, everything's still on track right now!

Yeah the whole two houses sounds great on paper to the kids, but come on man. You're going to have a minimum of 15 years back and forth with your wife. If she starts dating a loser that you don't think should be around the kids... TO BAD! You have no recourse unless their is serious evidence of abuse/neglect. I hope it goes smooth for all 15 years until both of your kids are over the age of 18, but personally I don't think I could handle watching a woman make decisions that I felt were bad for our children while I had to sit by idly due to having very little control over the situation.

And so the wise alternative is to remain in a loveless marriage with someone that you slowly grow to resent and hate?
