From what I have heard you have to frame it with a similar take to the MK movie. What , at it's core, are you expecting exactly from a He Man movie? Are you looking for some rebuke or embracing of some cultural side you're fighting for? Or are you looking to see He Man end up fighting Skeletor?
I want a movie of He-Man just sitting in very crowded public places and public transportation, man-spreading for 2 hours because fuck the patri...feminism or whatever.

“I am Adam… Prince of Eternia… defender of Castle Grayskull… and undisputed menace of the 8:05 a.m. subway.”

camera pans down

“My father thinks I spend my days protecting the realm… but in truth… I wage a different kind of war.”

cut to Adam sitting on public transit, legs already suspiciously wide

“No one suspects that when I board this train… I carry with me a power… too great for confined seating.”

ominous music builds

“When the car fills… when the last open seat is taken… when personal space becomes a distant memory…”

Adam slowly grips his sword

“I raise my weapon and declare—”
‘BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!’

FLASH—TRANSFORMATION

I HAVE THE POWER!

He-Man now sits… legs spreading with divine authority, consuming 2.5 seats minimum

“Behold! Maximum lateral expansion! No armrest can contain me! No commuter can challenge me!”

nearby passengers visibly crushed into geometric impossibilities

“I am He-Man! Master of Quadriceps! Lord of Unnecessary Territory!”

A poor commuter tries to sit

He-Man (without looking): “You may have… the edge.

they get 2 inches of seat

“Only a few know my secret… like Man-At-Arms, who avoids eye contact… and Orko, who simply vanishes when I sit down.”

He-Man turns to camera, dead serious

“And if you find yourself beside me on your daily commute…”

leans slightly wider

“…you will learn the true meaning of sacrifice.”

beat

“For I… have the space.”

Just got back from watching it. It was good. Had some adult sex humor in it, got me to laugh quite a few times. The CGI was good, the fights were good. Very Star Wars-ish, moreso than I remember from the cartoons when I was a kid. The woke stuff wasn't too in your face, more kind of just there's more to being a man than brute strength and aggression. Do I need to hear that message? No, because it's common sense, but at least it was done toned down, especially for what we get in modern movies. Overall, this was much better than I expected, and they set up a sequel with the multiple credit scenes. I hope it makes enough money to get there, probably won't though unless word of mouth really gets this thing going.

So like… will kids enjoy it? Or are the only reviews we see gonna come from 45 year olds who are pretending that they are the target demo?

You’re supposed to bring your 7 year old to this and bond over something he finds awesome and you find tolerable. No way did they actually try to make a fucking He-Man movie a grown ass adult would enjoy.
I'm watching the RLM review of it now, and it kind of hit me that really He-Man is a property for people 50+ at this point. I vaguely remember He-Man, but I don't know that I was ever really into it. I'm just not quite old enough. If you were the target demographic for this in 1983-84, you were probably born around 1973-76. Yeah, maybe re-runs would hook people a little younger, but it seems like even 45 year olds is pushing it.

He-Man is firmly in the middle of Gen X. Even the younger Gen X'ers are probably too young for He-Man to really have been a major thing.

1971, here.
I would love an Origin story, taken seriously, movie. Give me a Lord of the Rings quality film and it would fucking rock.
But alas...

It's not like a must-have. I'm just saying if you ARE going to do a He-Man movie, it's been so fucking long that you've got to put something into it if you're going to attract a new crowd (kids of folks my age, for example), along with people like me. What we're seeing with the "Let's resurrect the dead" initiatives is almost-zero effort, or worse, let's just destroy it completely. (Like the Kevin Smith treatment).

Either really go for it, or don't waste the money.

Or just make something new where people might be interested in it and don't just cash in on whatever IP you got sitting in Cold storage.

I mean I know that's a challenge now, but whatever. I get what you're saying though but it's still just tiring. I'll maybe watch this one day when it's free and out there, but I don't really have a desire to.

I'm younger than 45 and I was obsessed, but I'm likely an outlier.

I'm 41 and I very, very vaguely remember being into it as a kid. I have a couple vivid memories of my Great Grandma taking me to the local drugstore to get a few toys. But outside of that, I think I best know He-Man for this..

There is no targeted demographic for this movie. It's definitely not aimed at kids. It's also not not for kids, but the dude's a kid for the intro and that's it. Then it's a movie about a 30 year old dealing with life kicking him in the nuts. I'm 47, grew up on the cartoons, had the toys. I don't even know if the movie was aimed at me, nothing about what I remembered was really in this movie, not that I remember a ton. But this was very Star Wars Return of the Jedi like vibes to me sans the ewoks. There's nothing in this for kids except maybe the talking cat, and he gets 3 minutes of screen time.

It's just a good movie though. Like adult humor. Good action. The actors were fine. The main theme is just that you are going to fail in life and you need to be able to get back up on your feet when you do. I feel like it's aimed at young adults in the 25-35 range, but they don't really have a connection to He-Man. So, no idea how you get that crowd to come watch this thing outside of word of mouth being positive. It's probably going to bomb financially, but do well on streaming when people give it a chance.

The he-man cartoons were never the draw.

The 80s he man action figures were AAA+. Compared to GI Joe or Star wars He-man made them look like a pile of crap. You could storm castle greyskull. You had all kinds of cool monsters and vehicles. The figures were gigantic and the articulation was awesome for play fighting. As a 10-12 yo nothing else really compared. Later on transformers were cool too but He-man was the boss.

Not gonna lie, I liked this movie. I am a child of the 80s but didn't have much hope.

The opening action was a really good sequence. The sound work and CGI got them off to a good start before the silly kicks in.

After that it gets into camp and only crossed the line a couple of times where it killed a moment for me. Just silly fun and that's all it really needed.

Most importantly, they didn't biff the 'I have the power' moments, definite goosebumps both times.

No over the top girl bossing, but Teela is a large role. The opening poking fun at modern HR was funny.

Guy playing He-man did the form justice. He is much wider in the film than he seemed in previews.

The Skeletor voice was good, not too nasally and not too...try hard.

If you liked He-man, you would like the film. If you didn't, I am not sure why you would even be in the theater.

I may have been the only one to appreciate or read to much into the Princes of the Universe at the end / Highlander cop joke from the beginning throwback in the theater.

The flashbacks with body building / HR Skeletor were solid.

I couldn't stop thinking 'Are you Thor, the god of hammers?' during the final scenes.

Brian May on guitar was an excellent cherry on top.

Curious who will play She-ra.

Teela has WAY too many clothes Needs much more leg

Wait, so they cast an actress as sexy as Camila Mendes to play this character:

1780871304438.png

...and then they put her in fucking PANTS?

Well, anyway, this sounds like a solid movie that needs support, so I'll go see it tomorrow or Tues.

I had no interest in this because I thought it was still part of that Kevin Smith reboot. Wonder how much money this movie lost out on because of people assuming it was still that universe. Hopefully word gets around that it's got nothing to do with it.

After catching up on a bunch of modern movies this past week, like John Wick 3 and a bunch of superhero movies... I think what this movie definitely needs more of (if it wants to fit in) is an obnoxious female character who is better than He-Man at everything and emasculates him constantly. Did they forget to add that?

The show originally aired at insane times. But I was exactly the target audience. So I got up at 6am before anyone else in the family, and I watched it in the TV in our living room.

I was kinda into He-Man, but I was born in '81. I actually have a very old He-Man book that I read a lot to my daughter when she was first born. Actually, I just did a search, and found it.

Looks like it was published back in '83.
