I saw they were selling the Grandpa soap at Cracker Barrel after we finished dinner, so I grabbed a bar of charcoal for the fiancé to try out. It has a fresh mint smell to it, but it’s very, very subtle. Will report back when he uses it. Shit, I might try it out, too.

Giving this a trial. I like it so far, seems to be clearing body acne spots very quickly.

pine tar is all I use now. that 'musk' from it stays on you a while too, drives my wife crazy and i'm convinced if I was single it would results in at least a 15-20% increase in pussy (pine tar only, their charcoal is fine but meh). To me it's a very mild wood smoke smell, like a sweater you wore near a campfire a few weeks ago and never washed and put it back on.

If you guys are hard up for good charcoal soap, this blows grandpa brand's out of the water (as far as charcoal goes, pine tar still the best ever):

Is it the level pine tar you like? Does it have a tea tree version of pine tar?

I'm sad the barber shop tea tree shit I got even only using 1-2x a week after the first use has lost the insane tingle sensation I originally got from it. Still smells and feels great but not like ima gonna fall asleep relaxing. Working thru my peppermint Dr whatever liquid castille soap. Still amazes me the lather from just a tiny bit, though wish it wasn't so runny often over pour from such a huge bottle.

Think I'd like to try the pine tar bar before I dive into a huge jug of the Dr's Tea tree.

No, I use the grandpa pine tar, I didn't like levels. Conversely, if I used charcoal still i'd 100% use levels over grandpa's. It's better by a huge factor if you're actually going for that true charcoal smell.

I'd love for someone to buy bother versions of boths brands and see if they agree with me. Could just be my own tastes of course.

edit: just looked and level doesn't have a pine tar soap so I must have been thinking another brand.

I will say that after getting out of the shower and drying off I thought to myself "my skin feels good today" and it stayed that way for longer than normal.

But whereas I smell fresh, I don't have that clean feeling I remember from my youth using bars of soap. Do these products change the "clean feel" for you?

Man, you guys think a lot harder about this stuff than I do. I don't recall ever in my life having an opinion good/bad/indifferent about how my skin feels. I use Zest because that's what my Mom bought when I was a kid and I've never felt the urge to change it.

You're missing out. Your first experience using a different type of soap (even Dial) would be so euphoric that you would probably OD.

Not a bar but, for giggles I bought some hippy-dippy socialist magic mushroom eater hemp oil / tea tree oil soap on an Amazon lightning deal. I would have never guessed but its been a life changer. Castile Soaps are oil based so you arent drying out your skin / hair. I do all body with it and because of the anti-bacterial / anti-fungal properties of the tea tree oil I have no more dandruff, no more jock itch, no more athelete's foot, no more pimples on my ass and back. Dont need conditioner for my hair anymore because it isnt stripping all the oil out . It takes getting used to because it doesnt lather up as much as traditional detergent based soaps and it doesnt give you that I just sandblasted off the top layer of skin feeling, but it gets you clean.

Socialism may not work but their nudist commune soap does.

Picked up a giant bottle of this at Target the other day. It works okay as a shampoo and works well with plastic scrubbies, but like all liquid soaps, fucking sucks for washcloths. Don’t think I will rebuy.

As for the label, what in the ever living fuck is going on there? Take a few minutes and read some it. In Jesus’ name, we bathe.

My brother used to buy that stuff. I always thought it smelled terrible.

The first post I answered why I don't like liquid soap for showering. But it's entirely because I like to stand in the spraying water the entire time, and liquid soap goes away instantly.

As for your deodorant question, I've been using this for a little over a year and it's fucking awesome. I don't have BO any longer, and that's busting my ass in the sun and sweating the entire day. It's glorious.
It's a smooth cylinder of salt. You wet your pits, crotch... hell, anywhere that gets funky when you sweat a lot. Then just rub it on a lot. It's a bar of salt, so you just keep rubbing it until you think it'll be good. The water slowly dissolves the salt it's touching, which is how you get "covered". I don't suggest wetting the salt itself down, because every time you put it away, the water runs down the cylinder and weakens the base where it sits. I've had 2 bars fall out onto the bathroom floor when I flipped it over to do my pits, and when it hits the floor, it explodes into a hundred pieces. Now that I've swapped to wetting my pits directly, the base remains solid for the long haul.

You'll still sweat. This is NOT an anti-antiperspirant. But the salt prevents bacteria that live in your pit hair from reproducing when you start to sweat. And it's the bacteria that causes you to stink. Nothing more. Kill the bacteria, kill the smell. Problem solved.

EDIT: I apply it by wetting my pits right after I finish up with my shower and dry off. Then go to bed. When I wake up, I'll soak my pits a bit more and wipe the "old" salt away and re apply it, just to be safe. That's enough for me. And this single stick (cylinder) will last a year. It's pretty awesome for costing around $7 per.

Figured I’d give this a try. Used witch hazel with some tea tree oil in it to wet my pits. Witch hazel is supposed to act like an antiperspirant, seems to do a damn fine job combined with the aluminum salt deodorant.

A couple years ago I went on a very clean diet of veg and eggs/chicken, my armpit stink went away. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the dairy, one of my girls started stinking at age four, we figured it out to be non organic milk. Give her whatever the fuck milk and she stinks like a teenager, switch to organic and no problems.

My first Grandpa's Soap bar is nearly done. That said, I may still have another week of use on it. I'm surprised that it's lasted as long as it has. But it makes enough suds with a quick pass that I don't need to go over and over the same area, wasting tons of soap. Things are good.

Also pro tip, if you need a little gift idea for the old lady get this. Smells exactly like fruity pebbles in a really good way.

Grapefruit + Bergamot Bar Soap

My bar of this just came in today. It's definitely not bad, but I don't know if I just got a different mix of the bar but the fruity pebbles smell is there but very subtle. Fiance couldn't pick it out from a blind sniff and he loves the shit out of some fruity pebbles smell. Overall, still a very good buy and still smells great.

In the shower at least, I could really only smell the flowery part of it with just a hint of fruit.

So on Sunday night, I used the last of my Pine Tar bar of Grandpa's soap. It lasted a surprisingly long time. Wow, I got almost a month out of the bar of pine tar. That's crazy. I used it for the first time on June 13th. The bar was officially gone as of July 8th. God damn that's some long lasting soap, and I used it heavier than I ever used my old generic soaps. But I did use it differently by only doing 1-2 passes on my skin before scrubbing with my hand, instead of keeping the bar in my hand the entire time I used it the way I used to do.

Last night I began with the Charcoal based soap, also from Grandpa. Right up, I noticed that the charcoal makes a lot more suds than the pine tar. I'm not 100% sure if it'll be that way after a week of use, because I remember a lot of suds when I first started using the pine tar. But then again, it might have also just been the water we used in Japan, vs. the water in Hawaii.

The scent is very tame. Unless I'm really trying to smell it, I don't notice a thing about this bar.

I'm going to test out this pine tar soap myself. my grampa used to have some abrasive as shit (lava maybe?) soap that cleaned up soot and grease. I've been looking for a very agressive bar soap.

I notice one of the bars in that Grandpa's soap assortment is buttermilk. The idea of washing yourself with buttermilk is just appalling to me. Maybe "rancid bacon grease" will be their next variety.

buttermilk has been around in soaps forever. *shrug* It's not like pouring milk on yourself soft-core porn style.. unless you want to?
