So not exactly a painting question. But maybe if you did?

So I have the old d&d gargantuan and colossal "minis" that wizards made. But they never made a green dragon.

So I was wondering have any of you bought or printed and or painted one of comparable size and aesthetic?
I had a full set of those Ral Partha chromatic dragons in the 90's. You may be able to find a green but it definitely won't be cheap.

I haven't painted in a while, so I decided to knock the rust off with some fabulous space angels.

That green dragon was always so cool looking. These old Peter models are so pricy now. The old green knight is like we'll over $100.

So after two months of no painting I started one last week and I’m pretty happy with it. It’s one of the largest figures I’ve painted, next to the KDM Phoenix. His wings have a cool pearlescent coating, looks like legit insect wings in person. Also like always it’s kind of washed out in the pics. Need a new phone I guess.

Nice paint jobs. I started wondering if I have ever seen any official black characters in Warhammer 40k. I will admit to not knowing near enough, so I'm sure there are plenty, but seeing your painted mini got me thinking.

iirc The Salamanders have black skin due to their home planet

There's actually a new imperial guard model that's officially black, looks kinda like Carl Weathers in predator.

My desk lamp really washes out the details sometimes, but i'm too lazy to bother to take more pictures.

More Imperial Fists in progress!

I'm also contemplating a new airbrush. A bit finer detail than my Patriot 105

I can vouch that my Iwata Medea hp cs is nice, it is 0.35mm. I’ve started using it more for base layering, initially I just used it for priming. It saves a lot of time and makes some smooth blends.

If you’re looking to go Angel Giraldez level of airbrushing though, I know some of those guys use the Harder & Steinbeck Infinity CR Plus which goes down to 0.15mm but they are $300+ so my noob ass can not comment on those other than the retarded end results I’ve seen from the pros. And I have no idea how much of that is the airbrush and how much is their crazy brush work.

Yup so I am considering either.... Iwata HP-CS for around $160, the Iwata Hi Line for around $250 or the Infinity CR + for $320. I see the Angel Giraldez stuff and it is crazy good. The other thing with the CR+ is that you get a .15 and a .4 needle, or a .2 and .4. So you can swap them.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Hi Line. My Badger has a .5 needle and I think going down to .3 would be a better move. I'm thinking i'll use the Badger to prime, Hi Line for whatever else. I'm not sure.

I just joined this guys Patreon after seeing his interview with Vince Venturella. I might sign up for 1 on 1 time. We'll see.

With my Imp. Fists I had good results using a thin ink wash over the model (I forget the name of the brown ink that I watered down a bit, but I'll look). It created more depth in the recesses and added a gritty, battle-worn look too. I felt the contrast helped the yellow look less flat across multiple surfaces. When I can find the models again (we moved in March) I'll upload some pics!

So I’m not an airbrush expert at all, but I tried to do some finer spots just to try it after this discussion and I struggled. For doing priming, large colored areas, blends, etc it’s great. But if you are wanting to really get more detailed areas on small models you may want to consider the one with .15 nozzle. I just had so much overspray with the .35 I couldn’t see doing fine detail on smaller models with it.

I use an Infinity. For really fine work remember, you need to lower air pressure, and lower pressure means thinner paints, when I am doing very close/fine detail work the paint is basically 3:1 thinner to paint. it is VERY thin.
