I can't play the gamepass version. It's like it is registering that I am holding up/forwards for some reason. I've tried unplugging my controller, swapping things around, but nothing works. On the map I could barely scroll down fast enough, but the second I stop scrolling it goes to the top of the map. I managed to get to the first train cart using a controller (holding down R2 is "down"), but once there I can only see the top cart. I try to go down, and any other button than forcing it down pops it right to the top again.

I have no idea what this is. Tried other games, and everything is fine. Only this game that is acting very weird.

Played through a couple clans and its pretty much just as good as the first and mostly the same formula just with different mechanics, so that's a win. Usually on sequels they fuck with the sauce too much.

I quite like the new layering of synergies. Also the cameo appearances of characters from other Indy titles is very cute plus a great way to drive some more people towards other good rouge likes.

Thus far I've had my best runs with a combo of Shrooms/Mad Scientists.

Perhaps MT2 overlooked stick dead zones, and your controller is throwing a small amount of "up" constantly that is normally below most games' dead zone thresholds? Have you tested the controller?

Yeah, they've done a fantastic job about adding just enough "new" to keep things fresh, but still having enough "old" to make it feel familiar.

Fantastic game and quite a lot of content/unlocks as you go. Great successor to the first game. I've also had my most successful runs with the Mushroom dudes.

The game is a great sequel. Not loving that you have to play Consume and Equipment cards to unlock clans though. I think in the first game it was just hero XP, right? Now I am finding myself doing self-sabotage runs just to get the other clans unlocked ASAP. Seems like a poor design decision, but admittedly one that is largely meaningless in the long-run.

The new/revamped music is awesome.

Is Steam running? For me Steam fucks up controller for all Game Pass games, but maybe yours is different.

decided to fire up the original game a bit. this was my turn 1 against Archus, the eating unit on the floor is an alloyed construct with a frenzystone and a heartstone.

Yea I did this with Lies of P and regret it. It's basically saying you're renting the game but have to start all over when you want to buy it (on steam or direct cause fuck M$)

So I rented monster train and am having a blast....

Its especially nice that [spoiler for the 'plot' and progression]
All the old clans come back after you reach a certain point in the progression and then you unlock each of the older ones

I also like that the little 'cut scenes' do not take themselves too seriously.

I unlocked the Mad Scientist Lazarus clan and did an Unstable/Decay build, with a heavy emphasis on front liners with regeneration. Won right out of the gates and really liked his mechanics. Not sure who the best clan to pair with him will be though.

The changes are about perfect and made me enjoy it enough to buy on Steam (runs great on deck) instead of just Gamepassing. Have like 18 hours in the last few days.

This is a masterpiece of a sequel.

I literally jumped for joy when I unlocked the MT1 guys

Rally boss in decay is so OP - yet to die with him
Only main I need to unlock is Laz 2nd but I really am not keen on the unstable mechanics yet

Great game! F gamepass I bought it outright on ps5

Struggling to fine a way to win with Talos. she seems so weak. like, 10 runs, only even made it to seraph once. often failing by round 3.
enchantress/celebration requires good rng with units to carry her, till she starts buffing the units over time. most of the time, he first and second bosses, murder the entire field, and often her as you don't have anything up yet. totally negating celebration.
battlecleric is ok. but, to use best, requires her being on another floor, filling it up, then having her move down over capping it.

tried pairing with luna, pyre and laz with her.

fel just seems strong and carries by herself. savoir is probably best, but unchained/vangaurd also fine.
add in cursed twinblade and everlast light merged. its easy mode.
demon fledgling, swordmaiden, avenger all work well.

Shroom guys are fun. Used the duplicate any card Pyre, get the unit that resolves a FunGuy at the end of every turn and try to put a couple of those on the first couple floors and you can get some huge shrooms built up pretty quick. Got lucky with a Jack in the Box and shoved two of those guys and a bird that grants Quick into it behind the shroom boss that permanently gets +1 hit and health every time you summon and that was an easy win.
