Human mining at night. There's an ore node in there on my left. My eyes are worn out after a heavy weekend of this haha:
View attachment 595928

I got pretty good at it though. My 3 friends turned into 5! Has been a really fun weekend.

I got a set of plate made finally. I was wearing a patched leather chest for most of the weekend with no pants.

The only thing I saw that really needs a change is sungreet needs some wood nodes. All those little mini forests and there's no wood for campfires!

Also a way to convert leather canvas to leather scraps would be nice.
theres a gamma slider they put in recently, put it to like 80 and you will be able to see at night

To get scraps from canvas, just make it into armor then use the seam ripper to turn the armor into scraps (or at least that's what chat keeps saying).
Wow, I feel dumb

Gamma is cheating! And makes everything look wrong. I used to spend an expensive pow instruction in my pixel shaders to make sure I got it right (though I learned later it was a cheaty pow)

I turn it up at night (for 36m) then back down in the day and it looks fine. It makes the night playable.

Hmm the annoying thing about making armour out of canvas is that it needs cloth too.

And thread.

check the armormiths, leatherworkers, tanner vendors etc and see if folks just sell rawhide scraps or straps. sounds mad but 10cp for a scrap or better yet 10cp for a strap aint bad. can turn around and sell the armor you make to make up for that.

Seems waaaay early. They still need more starting areas and well…a fuck ton of everything else. The amount of work left is staggering.
Makes you appreciate how the team of like 30 people made vanilla everquest in like 2 years. Vanilla WOW was like 50 core designers in 5 years.

Without any of the modernized tooling that makes stuff faster and easier to build.

Each and every complaint Ive seen on games like this one, and Alludan or w/e, and Pantheon, etc. Just anything that is "harkening" back to older games - its all based around quality of life, or the fact that its missing. If I sit back and just try to rationalize each of these choices, I can see the angle the devs are going for. Do I always support those ideas? Fuck no. But games in early development like this are a lot more palatable when you look at them through this lens.

Missing map altogether, bit too obnoxious because you end up alt tabbing. A stationary map with no location on it? Right mix between making the player learn their surroundings, while still having a handicap so they arent wasting an inordinate amount of time "exploring" when all they want to do is just go join their buddy in a group.

Weight in general has a role to play in everything. Bronze, Steel, Cobalt plate etc. are all sought after for their AC. But with the weight they have, how you itemize the rest of your character starts to change. The devs also have another stat for players to chase. Nothing new here, as Bronze Plate, Steel Plate, in EverQuest - was obnoxious to wear as a Wood Elf, Halfling, Human, whatever (small to small-medium) race. Starting stats start to mean more in this type of situation. Put your racist thoughts to work for a minute and think about what "stats" you would expect each race to start with in real life. Fuck that homogenization shit.

Coin weight, in general, works roughly the same way. How many times in EverQuest did you purposefully go somewhere, not because of drops, or drops that will lead to large amounts of coin, but strictly based on the coin? Ive only ever done so in Pantheon with Halnirs Cave. EverQuest, I always thought of the vendor loot that dropped to save the day. When your group is deciding between a Goblin Cave that drops 60-70 copper per mob, with 70% exp bonus .. Versus a Haunted Crypt dropping 1 silver and 10 copper on average with a 60% exp bonus.. Which would you rather choose? .... I mean by no means am I a supporter of currency having weight, but Im trying to rationalize it.

Hot button and Hot Bar discussion could be as simple as a temporary solution to keep simple macro's and basic bots at bay "for now". Or it could be a forceful way of making sure that your average keyboard turner type of person with 30 APM is on par with some ambidextrous pro gamer that has a separate keyboard for his number pad, and an MMO mouse. Effectively forcing some low APM on someone that can effectively do 150-200 APM with their setup. I dont know about you, but I enjoyed the original OG classic raids in WoW a hell of a lot more when retard jimmy thats funny as fuck could still play with us. You've clearly lost the plot in an MMO when you're clearing BWL in 25 minutes and cannot fathom the clear taking longer. Am I a supporter of BWL taking 8 hours to clear? No. But BWL taking an hour, to an hour and a half and we're all laughing and talking shit all the way through it? Sign me the fuck up.

Im under no illusion that these games will ever hit the WoW Peak player count of yesteryear. But I do think a good, solid game, will do just fine with their niche.

as long as they calibrate their costs and don't try to EVER do a graphic revamp, or try to super expand their studio, they can make enough money to perpetuate it just fine. its juts about how many niche bros their are.

crazy thing is i got in, i dunno 5 pugs this time. and in EVERY one of them. i said "i'm 2 yellow to level" then "2 blue to level"...they were like "what is blue?" and i explained how the xp bar worked. and some one in the party said "oh, i never played everquest".

i'm not sure if these are classic wow andies, mud players, runescape players are what, but a lot of them arn't just EQ spergs.

I don't know how someone could play this at all without having played EQ. The barrier to entry is so ridiculous, it's incredibly off-putting.

I tried playing it in two open tests before and I just couldn't do it. Not being able to see at night, find anything in the city, running like a slug, and taking forever to level really suck. I pushed through it this time and I'm glad I did. But for someone who's used to gaming in 2025? This game is just a giant ass pain to get going.

The race thing is strange to me. I noticed immediately at character creation that all races and classes had the exact same starting stats. You'd think that would've been a super easy one to change, 3 tests out from EA. And yet, they haven't, which leads me to believe there's literally zero difference in races besides looks. Do I actually want to be an ogre if there's no advantage to it?

The advantage to being an ogre is you can seamlessly and painlessly grief an entire dungeon if the entrance corridor is small enough.

Think of all the delicious drama!

If you never played an Ogre Shaman the advantage was absurd. You could sit there and cast whatever and almost no mob in the game could interrupt you.

That's what I'm getting at with MnM though. What are the actual racial differences? It seems like there are none, and that'd be super easy to implement. 6 or less months from EA and that feature isn't in tells me there is no plan for it. Everyone starts with 18 across all stats or whatever it is, period?

I had very little experience playing EQ but I found the barrier to entry was mostly overcome via RTFM.

I think it depends if you take a resistant approach or an investigatory approach. The darkness of night really surprised me, but instead of giving up and complaining about it, I tried using the tools the game gave me to deal with it - holding torches and placing campfires, and I found it fun! But now the gamma slider lets you circumvent that entirely. If they capitulated on the gamma slider, I think there are other pain points they'll eventually address too.

It's probably just not a priority right now. You can see their entire Trello board at this link. From what I can tell, racial differences are still a to-do.

Counterpoint: why would racial stat differences be important to implement 6 months from EA if it's "super easy?" Why wouldn't they prioritize the more challenging features that actually need testing? Saying there's "no plan" for it is just silly when we're talking about a dev team that is very transparent about their plans.

Yea krip's answer is about what was going to say. some people arn't playing the game to WoWstyle level plow. they're engaging with what's there.

I would add also that it's not that bad. the dark is dark, but you can use the backlighting or the hovering names to do most things in a noobie zone. just pan the camera up. The guildleaders for the newbie note can be a pain in the ass, but the rewards for turning in is basically worthless. you can slowly acclimate to the city and eventually do your newbie quest if you care, but...it's not that hard. its divisive sure because a generation or two was raised on hand holding for their handholding. but there's also players checking out stuff like old school runescape, or nutting up for darksouls style games left and right.

I had 5 friends join me 3 enjoyed it enough to keep playing , we g rouped up to...about 8. 2 immediately said "ITS DARK NOT LIKE" and stopped. Really if the newbie zone just had a few more lamp posts and backlighting those guys prolly would have found it immersive.
