Each and every complaint Ive seen on games like this one, and Alludan or w/e, and Pantheon, etc. Just anything that is "harkening" back to older games - its all based around quality of life, or the fact that its missing. If I sit back and just try to rationalize each of these choices, I can see the angle the devs are going for. Do I always support those ideas? Fuck no. But games in early development like this are a lot more palatable when you look at them through this lens.
Missing map altogether, bit too obnoxious because you end up alt tabbing. A stationary map with no location on it? Right mix between making the player learn their surroundings, while still having a handicap so they arent wasting an inordinate amount of time "exploring" when all they want to do is just go join their buddy in a group.
Weight in general has a role to play in everything. Bronze, Steel, Cobalt plate etc. are all sought after for their AC. But with the weight they have, how you itemize the rest of your character starts to change. The devs also have another stat for players to chase. Nothing new here, as Bronze Plate, Steel Plate, in EverQuest - was obnoxious to wear as a Wood Elf, Halfling, Human, whatever (small to small-medium) race. Starting stats start to mean more in this type of situation. Put your racist thoughts to work for a minute and think about what "stats" you would expect each race to start with in real life. Fuck that homogenization shit.
Coin weight, in general, works roughly the same way. How many times in EverQuest did you purposefully go somewhere, not because of drops, or drops that will lead to large amounts of coin, but strictly based on the coin? Ive only ever done so in Pantheon with Halnirs Cave. EverQuest, I always thought of the vendor loot that dropped to save the day. When your group is deciding between a Goblin Cave that drops 60-70 copper per mob, with 70% exp bonus .. Versus a Haunted Crypt dropping 1 silver and 10 copper on average with a 60% exp bonus.. Which would you rather choose? .... I mean by no means am I a supporter of currency having weight, but Im trying to rationalize it.
Hot button and Hot Bar discussion could be as simple as a temporary solution to keep simple macro's and basic bots at bay "for now". Or it could be a forceful way of making sure that your average keyboard turner type of person with 30 APM is on par with some ambidextrous pro gamer that has a separate keyboard for his number pad, and an MMO mouse. Effectively forcing some low APM on someone that can effectively do 150-200 APM with their setup. I dont know about you, but I enjoyed the original OG classic raids in WoW a hell of a lot more when retard jimmy thats funny as fuck could still play with us. You've clearly lost the plot in an MMO when you're clearing BWL in 25 minutes and cannot fathom the clear taking longer. Am I a supporter of BWL taking 8 hours to clear? No. But BWL taking an hour, to an hour and a half and we're all laughing and talking shit all the way through it? Sign me the fuck up.
Im under no illusion that these games will ever hit the WoW Peak player count of yesteryear. But I do think a good, solid game, will do just fine with their niche.
