Classic EQ had a bad case of difficulty vs reward, more so than bad dundgeon design etc.
Like befallen, one the the “biggest” loots there the bone bladed claymore was crap when compared to a similar camp elsewhere with better and more plentiful rewards.

I haven't read all of the retarded drivel on the past couple pages but I will put forward that as much as I love M&M, if the boat ride is actually 4 hours long then you can bet I will never ride it (except when I'm planning on logging off for the day - I heard that you can log out on it and then log back in at your destination later). Max I could stand to ride an in-game boat would be 1 hour, and that's only if I can fish on it or fight pirates.

except everquest literally had 3rd person camera so wtf are you talking about?
Default was 1st person in a tiny window with massive grey UI surrounding it but you could flip through views to full screen and then full screen 3rd person.
you only stayed in first person when you were in some safe ass camp waiting on respawns clearing shit, shooting the shit with people. any time you needed any kind of situational awareness you went into 3rd person view.
starting to think some of you motherfuckers never played everquest you just romanticized some idea of it from old stories off the internet

I played all 3 years(?) of Everquest (from release until WoW release) in 1st person and though it was great (mostly quad kiting druid and rogue for group stuff).
Tried it in this game, Adrullan, and THJ but just couldn't go back to it. It's very hard to return to relying on sound to hear shit sneaking up on you when sight in 3rd person is so much more superior for situational awareness. Moreso when getting a single add usually means XP loss death and long run backs.
First person also feels extremely claustrophobic after playing so long in 3rd person.

The F9 camera switches were not the default for exploring areas because they were kinda shitty. I definitely used them in super open areas to kite though

It was not true 3rd person but a pain in the ass view with a fixed camera, which is why NO one used it except in special circumstances.
Everyone played in 1st person and that increased immersion and made you rely on teamwork and aural senses too.

I had a scroll wheel mouse (thanks free microsoft recall to anyone that asked for a new explorer mouse!) before it was widespread so, 1st person and scroll out as needed (once that was a thing...was it always a thing?) if I got back to p99 thats how I play, the f9 (whatever) camera change views were just for snazzy screen shots!

Mouse scroll in EQ wasn’t a thing until well after PoP, you guys just don’t remember it because p99 uses a newer client. Ironically it was a feature first brought to you by… WoW
