big raids, small raids, no raids... you're missing the point.

in classic EQ you know fire giants in solb were camped by "raids"... it's whatever is end game is going to be camped by elitist if its a straight up "open world"... so what if that end game is majorly "group" content, that's even worse then in open world.

so because im not prepared to out poopsock someone i dont deserve to play the game i paid for? im not 100% against that idea, dont get me wrong. but that will introduce degeneracy behavior (training, dispelling, charming, spamming - aka just being a dick). im actually 100% for that type of behavior.

its if the GMs intend to allow elitist camp locking yet not allow training (which i imagine is the default)... if that is the case then i dont get to play the game i paid for entirely? im fine with that, but put a warning on the box ("Attention: Not all content is available to casual play").

yo, I used to browse this forum 20 years ago when I was but a wee lad. Lurked off and on (years in between I think) since that time. Have played the last two tests for monsters and memories and wanted to see what this old forum thought.

I had to register an account to respond to this because it blew my mind. A few others have had the same sentiment so I’m only quoting because yours is the latest.

no instances will lead to camped and gatekept content, without a doubt. But that is the content. That is EverQuest. EverQuest was awesome because you didn’t get to kill the djinn in sol b. You got to think about how cool it would be if you did. Or you managed to become a poop socker or kill stole it. That’s the content. That’s what people mean when they say it’s about the journey.

Spoiler: the camped content is the same as the uncamped content it just drops good stuff.

It’s mind blowing 44 years after EverQuest and a million progression/emu servers later some people don’t get this. EverQuest is literally about gatekept content. When people say EverQuest mystery, it was mainly a mystery for casuals.

All that said I think monster and memories will barely succeed at best. It’s such a carbon copy that people already know the flaws ahead of encountering them, haha. Also the classes are all shitty version of EverQuest classic. If they just ported over the eq classes 1-1 the game would improve.

The steam debate is retarded as hell too. Steam takes a cut of all sales. It’s like a 30% cut. They don’t want to release on steam because it hurts their margin. They would lose $4.50 on every sub sold through steam. They aren’t grifting.

edit: on some positives-the world itself is very cool, the flats zone is one of the best mmo zones I have played in, music is great, and I am impressed they made it this far.

You guys are just discussing whether this game is going to be good or not, carry on.

Discuss it without the personal attacks, that'd be even better. Quaid they're discussing the game it seems to me after reading a couple pages back, whether you agree with his opinion or not is irrelevant he posted a coherent opinion and not personal attacks. I don't know if I agree with his take, but it's his take.

Carry on, be good kids.

The dude is very obviously a character being played. Deal with it now or later, whichever you prefer. Cheers.

What? I never knew that Everquest was available on the Commodore VIC-20 and the Apple II. I learn new things every day.

You're telling me you don't remember dialing up Everquest on your 300 baud modem back on the Commodore 64? lol

In reality, back then, we did play a *similar* game called L.O.R.D. (Legend Of the Red Dragon) on BBSes.

I miss L.O.R.D. It was fun times to log and learn you got ganked. I think if you got powerful enough that would stop happening.

I remember there was a hooker you could fuck if you got enough of stat. I forget what.

yea i agree with you, thats my point - gatekeeping did make EQ good... like seeing a pair of GEBs on someone.

just going in circles now, but the point is that doesnt work in 2025... thats probably the real reason no Steam, they dont want the woke communist mob review bombing their shit because there's no hand outs

The devs came right out and admitted they don't want to release on steam yet because they don't want to sour the PC gaming market (the real player base) on their game because it isn't fucking ready. They don't want anyone who actually matters to see it yet, they just want to milk a handful of retarded whales to pay for completing the game. They need to bleed die hard fans to pay to finish developing a game, which plenty of studios do nowadays especially with Early Access/kick starters, so still refusing to release on steam means something else is going on.

Given the number of janky ass, half baked tech evals that release on steam as "Early Access" and still do well and find an audience, launching "incomplete" is pretty much irrelevant and still no reason to avoid steam. If all they were talking about was a complete graphic/animation/engine overhaul and the real final version of the game was going to look completely different (which is great, the game looks like minecraft atm and needs a LOT of paid artists to come in and fix it), then that still wouldn't be a reason to avoid steam.

The only reason to avoid any market exposure at all and only milk money from die hards is if you plan to pull off a massive bait and switch and the game you are claiming you are making isn't going to be anything like what you actually plan to make. Graphics can improve, content can be added, you'd only avoid all exposure if you plan on changing fundamental game mechanics in a way that said die hard fans would not like and would not have financially backed had they known from the start.

Guys EverQuest was good because you couldn’t play it, you morons. You’re a commie if you believe otherwise.

Hypothetically let’s say you are correct. What’s the problem with doing that? People get to play the version for just eq people during ea and then it’s changed for the masses later on.

It’s not like star citizen, this is just a monthly sub at the price of 1 lunch a month. You say “milk money” like it’s a bad thing, i don’t think they have taken money from players or investors so far, right? Like all of this has been done for free. I feel like you are holding this team responsible for all the other game scams that have come and gone.
