In their defense, they are doing this with a MUCH smaller team than is typical for these projects.
When I made the thread the game was floating capsules on a landscape with some greyboxing that became Nightharbor. They may have had some stuff in place outside of what was shown, but I doubt it was very much.Oh no i don’t have any expectations or knowledge of how long these things take, or how many folks they take. It’ll be done when it’s done.
They said recently the staff is up to 42 people now. How much they’re all working, I have no idea. Also have no idea how that compares to a typical indie mmo team size.
But ya the time scales on these things are just nuts. This thread is nearly 6 years old and i bet there was foundational work being done on the game for a year+ before that.

The first test I got in 2 or 3 years ago, Nightharbor was still like 40% grey boxes. But the models and gameplay was solid enough to hook me, and it's pretty amazing how far it's come from there with only like 3 "full time" people and a ton of work being done on the side. They definitely have more people working on stuff now, systems and skills are rolling out at a decent clip. When I made the thread the game was floating capsules on a landscape with some greyboxing that became Nightharbor. I don't think they're planning on having a super lengthy beta before EA, but probably a couple months at least. i guess we'll hear about that in a couple months.
Derp i actually looked at that. Must have glossed over the posted EA date. So probably Aug or so for deep gnomes. Sadge.![]()
Beta & Early Access Update — Monsters & Memories
Hi all! As we mentioned in the last update , we’ve been a little quieter than normal after November’s 12-day playtest. Aside from just catching our breath after the long playtest, we’ve been super focused on Beta related work and updating our planning for 2026. This update should clarify things,monstersandmemories.com

Yea could be. Most of the talk on the streams about module 1has mentioned about 3 months after EA. But that''s been based on old timeframes. Apparently they've been working on the deep zones in stealth mode for awhile, and the 2 race models are in/ operational- but they need more love/options to get up to par with the current ones now. Makes sense they were back-burnered to get more polish on beta/ea ready races.I think August is optimistic for module 1.
in Nick’s most recent stream he mentions ‘the first major patch’ in EA as being separate from ‘module 1’. Given that, I’d be surprised if module 1 was launched before Q4 2026, but who knows.
It’s possible the influx of cash speeds development time, but i imagine they’re anxious to pay off the ~$100k in expenses they’ve incurred and pay for a bunch of deferred labor expense. Expenses are gonna go up once players are playing full time too, so time will tell.
I bet the first $250k in EA revenue is already spent, so i dunno if there’s gonna be much left to do hiring unless they’re SUPER chill about money.
Double sadge. But module 2 last I saw.Where

I went exploring with my level 20 druid and there looked like a lot to do, but I didn't see a zone in to a dungeon yet. There are various areas where zone lines may/will exist in the future. I think the orc camps I found were fairly high level (for the zone) and I remember running into a cave of undead and/or wisps (maybe, took off running) where I got swarmed and almost killed.Anyone started out in the wood elf city yet? I played a ranger to 7 out there but didn't explore too much. Found a good spot to grind to 4, then found a big field of wasps to grind to 7. Is there a low level dungeon out there akin to Wyrmsbane? I saw some orcs in the area, so I assume there'll be some orc camps out there.
Buddies and I are debating about rolling new toons up in the elven area for this weekend's play test. We're all 14-17 range so not sure how much leveling we're going to be able to do on those characters in the evenings when everyone can play together. We could probably go out to the quarry and do The Measure Stick quest if we wanted to do something that we could all do/finish during this test.
Excited to get another crack at this.
I started a ranger there too, ended up taking the boat to NH around that level to find a firebeetle eye for my dot. I don't believe there is an equivalent dungeon really. But as burns said, there are some orc caves, mushroom caves and sylph? caves or something. I've seen some named loot on the vendors, so there are some named. I'll probably risk the boat again going back and hope i don't get dunked in the drink again.Anyone started out in the wood elf city yet? I played a ranger to 7 out there but didn't explore too much.
