You're a retarded faggot if you think cherry picking screens from 3 years ago represents what M&M looks like today. It's very telling that every M&M screen you've posted today is years old with placeholder graphics. Here's character model comparison to show how retarded of a faggot you are about that too.

Even the one you used is like pre alpha, the armor pieces of the various kinds really make characters pop.

Theres a lot of cool looking gear, I have a belt with different stuff hanging off it, was surprised at the amount of detail on a belt item. Someone else has a staff with a little skull on the en. there’s also this shield with a dragon painted on it, lots of other examples too. They have some work to do I think on the very end game /raid item graphics but I think it’s pending.

it’s all kinda cool given their overall art style and it also makes it really stick out so you definitely get the ‘whoah what does that guy have’ effect when someone runs by you which I think is great.

Nah it was lifted from the latest blog update. I get why you think it's dated because of the background missing a texture, but it's actually had work done on it from the artists. Unlike the placeholder art in the really old screens that he kept posting earlier.

Something bothers me about how characters are interacting with the ground. Maybe it’s a shadow issue? Not sure.

I get what he's saying but it has two kinds of sides. Play an Ogre Magician and you'll run around looking like a fucking fat pink muslim blob on the screen for 20+ levels. Low level characters leave a lot to be desired and.. dare I say it, I think thats the philosophy. Because when I see Sloan and the other guys roaming around with their raid loot - Pffttt... that shit looks cool as fuck. (not to single him out). I believe thats the idea of the philosophy, and if its intended for me to 1. figure out what the fuck he's wearing, 2. figure out where its from, 3. make my ass grind until Im that level... Well then that philosophy works fucking well.

If its about just the character models and the animations? .. I guess that just bothers some people more than others. I think they all kind of look dopey or weird, but passable. Ya'll can say the game doesnt have an art style, but I personally dont think the character models feel out of place. The world doesnt feel like a unity asset. Lastly, the characters as dopey as they look, dont look out of place within the world. The animations.. Ive seen them get refined as they go, but I rarely see a new game release, even single player games, where there isnt at least one fucking guy out there saying "animations bad."

The other part, and I think this is a valid criticism... is that the majority of people start in Nighthold. That'll eventually change as they add in or refine content (wood elf city ... its just not a fun zone and I cant put my finger on why). But I personally would have designed Nighthold to act like Freeport in zone connections. Everything is "too much brown", "drab" and the gear that fits the theme of that area is all about sand, and ruins, and Arab shit and.. all I have experienced in the game starting from there, specifically, is "sand, sand, sand, ocean on the side of sand, reddish brown rocks, ruins of light brown sandstone, sand, sand, sand, palm trees with sahara grass, sand sand sand, oasis with sand people and sand wolves. Its a fucking desert area, I dont expect any different. But that puts a lot of weight on how characters seem to look shitty.

Dont get me wrong, though. I love Night Harbor and after figuring out where everything is - its a well designed zone. As others have said, you could probably level up in just that zone alone, and I think thats probably its coolest merit. I also love, love, love, Shaded Dunes. That place reminds me of the Desert of Ro and Oasis of Marr so, so much. Sungreet Strand just isnt my cup of tea. I think it should have been a shade of green on that side of the city. Its a more populated zone, or it "feels" that way .. and even though I think they were trying to go for a Sahara type of vibe there? It just doesnt feel like that. Still sand sand sand sand sand for a zone that is about the length of the fucking Karana's. Some cool stuff in it, like the Quarry and the two big goblin areas - but the farmer, bandit stuff is just ... "blah". I would have rather they did a "Commons" type of zone there and it had sun beaten grass and sparse trees.

Lastly - Ive talked about this with one of the devs before... Nick's implementation of gear in Wyrmsbane.. I honestly think it would serve a much better purpose of "looks" rather than "Best in Slot" for a lot of people. I think it should drop so plentiful that it rots. With that said, its stats would need to be nerfed into the ground. Like the Cloth Cap, instead of it having 3 AC, 1str,agi/int,cha, 2 sta, 2hp, 8mana - it should have like 1 AC less than Fine Cloth (2AC) and have +1 mana, or something. Nerf the fk out of the gem requirement, too. That shits awful. BUT THE POINT IS - its fucking cosmetic, and should be replaced. But you dont end up looking like a fucking hobo or a "fucking fat pink muslim blob" for 20-30 levels.

You bring up a great point and a core memory for me… I remember heading to upper guk early in my EQ days and I ran into two guys just chilling outside waiting on to fill their group for Lower Guk. They looked unreal and I was really hooked from that point. I wanted to look like them and go to the places they’re planning to go. I inspected them, talked to them, and had this moment that simply doesn’t take place. Honestly, I wish gear was memorable. I have no clue the name of my gear in WoW but I could tell you the name, place, mob, spawn rate, time, etc. of about every gear for about 90 levels of EQ for nearly every class. I don’t know if that’s feasible but it was cool to pursue pieces of gear to advance your character and make it a part of your journey.

If you do care about graphics, at least link models that are current. I dig the art direction of the game, very charming. Armor looks good, varying sizes of races makes silhouettes interesting and that's just character models. NPCs are pretty fantastic (if not needing a little variety) and the landscapes/skyboxes are incredible.

Thank you all for posting more pictures of the game which *confirms* everything I said. All those pics look like a dog's asshole.

Like I said phone only didnt have the bandwidth to cherry pick photos. You guys did and the best you can find prove my point.

If this game wasnt being ran by retards they'd have enough money to hire an artist or 10. Unfortunately they are retarded.

Edit: the perfect analogy for this games graphics is Duplo. Like if Minecraft were Lego bricks this game looks like duplo, just upsized Lego blocks:

I think the charm of the graphics will come down to the connection the game makes with the playerbase. Being a good game covers a multitude of sins. They're not awful by any means and I believe they're trying to create a certain appearance and artistic direction that would feel like a game back in the day but acceptable by players today. Right now, that seems a little up in the air but again, if the game strikes the right chords with its audience, it will be fine.

I do worry more about the amount of content available and what kind of turnaround on new content we are talking about. Which EQ really just had two raids and then we handed a couple of planes and we also had GM events here and there which I have fond memories of all of those things. Its a different time though so time will tell how players choose to consume content and just how patient they will choose to be.

The graphics suck. That is why I haven't followed this game. The only reason I'm interested now is because of the SK class. If the sk game play has a decent resemblance to old school EQ before all the expansions, mercs, etc. Then I can overlook the graphics.

You're insane, the game looks amazing outside of screenshots. The sunsets/sunrises are incredible, couple that with the music and the campfires/lighting at night and it's sublime.

Yeaah.. ok. 3 poly models with a couple color filters are not what I am looking for in modern games. That said, for me the classic sk (even with the xp penalty) was my favorite class in any game. And classic servers don't work for me because I hate repeating content over and over. So give me a new world to explore with my old school Sk and I'll be a happy camper, even with 1999 graphics.

Like it or not, the fact that the biggest complaints are from a handful of people saying they don't like the graphics, that should mean that we have a hell of a good game on our hands here because if graphics is all you can find to complain about, fuck the game must be awesome to play.

And, honestly, when it comes right down to it, if you really can not get past the graphics, this just might not be the game for you. That's how Rift was for me. The gameplay was not bad and I had decent fun in the game when it came out. I just could not stand the graphical styling they chose for the NPCs and player characters. It was so ugly to me. I'm sure some people liked it, but I did not. Thing is though, I didn't sit around on the Rift forums complaining about it and asking the devs to change it. The graphics were not my cup of tea... I moved on.

Early alpha and beta are the exact right time to ask for graphics to be improved. Once things are locked in on the final product it becomes much harder to correct course.

And that is far from the only complaint I have seen in this thread. It may be one of the more common ones, but that's because visuals are up front, and one of the more important aspects of any game, regardless of genre.

realistifc graphics are ruining the video game industry. lower poly, simpler graphics are easy to develop and add more content for.
