Anyone currently playing Monk? I have not dabbled at all with the game, but I think I am going to give it a shot during early access in June. Just curious how the class plays. I'm between Monk, Archer, Spellblade, or Shadowknight.
Monk has more utility and less dps than EQ version, high levels complain they are weak compared to other DPS classes but fists do best damage sub raid gear weapons apparently. Recently they did get triple attack as one of the few that can I imagine they proc very often giving their skills a ton of added benefits. Constant heal group procs add up.

Ohh so more like a Vanguard Disciple maybe? Or somewhere in between. That sounds kinda neat.

They’re fun, I’ve been hearing some recent changes with fd aren’t good, possibly a bug. Classes are very much in an alpha situation that’s gonna be where they have to make most of their progress before the EA.

I'd say it's more in between. If I recall, VG disciple was a dedicated healer, right? Monks in MnM have stances or forms. One of those forms procs a heal, while the others have different effects like increased attack speed.

There are still tons of spell lines and balance patches going through, I wouldn't expect anything to be close to where it's supposed to be until we get within a month of Early Access.

Not in that scale but more like bard regen levels or the like. Very minor group impact that stacks well with other groups, on top of being DPS.

monk is a tank in the party finder. i don't know if monks will do the highest dps mr stark.

a guildy (tank) complained that monks basically always mash taunt in their 123,123,123ing, so they snatch agro all the time. that's the comment i have from higher level folks about them. they mash taunt.

I don't know if they are meant to be actual tanks, or if they're just a bit of jack of all trades. I kind of want to play at some point to test, but i don't know that i want to spend enough time to get to high level to test if they're meant to tank.

I mash taunt every few pulls to keep my skill up, that way it's good to go when I need it.

I like the thread on their discord with the Fighter complaining he can't tank a dozen mobs and hold aggro on all of them and suggesting a bunch of changes that would eliminate both the CC and Pulling roles from the game

Ehhh rangers get taunt as well but a main tank IMO still needs plate, Monks do have a reduce incoming damage cooldown and stance though so we will see.

yea it's unclear. the devs have offhandedly said they can tank, but i do not know if they mean tank as good as plate boys. or do they mean they can briefly offtank. if it's just briefly offtank they should be reclassified as dps or support or something for clarity sake.

Maybe tank for smaller group stuff?

Keeps taunt and defense up. Plus all the tanks have a combo when they can slam the mob in the back that does pretty high dmg + perks every 20? Seconds. Spellblade also gets dps if they get smacked with their bubble up. Definitely some meta gaming with some classes to taunt off the the tank every now and then.

This as well, I was taunting constantly on spellblade to get that 3x damage increase.

The group heal can only proc when you're in water form and when you use the celestial strike ability, which has a 20 second cooldown, but can be reset 50% of the time with round kick.

I have a level 54 monk and I don't really have an issue with the class right now outside of the fact that it's one of the least finished classes. Just needs some more abilities and flavor.

Actually I do have one complaint right now. High level wizard mobs really suck to pull if you don't have access to something that breaks LoS and your FD fails. I've been killed by quite a few wizard mob nukes while pulling.

Also in response to the people speculating whether monks are tanks. No, they are definitely not. They can somewhat tank for lower level groups, but monks get trucked in the later game. Stone stance is a great ability but it has a long cd.

Yea our monk tanked great do about mid 30s but his health pool rapidly fell behind and plate tank became really the only option by 50+. Monks can off rank in a pinch but they are too squishy in scenarios where you need someone to soak a lot of damage

Apparently, spell blades have some ability to tank well but I am not sure it’s intended and also I know little of that class. Some kind of wizard melee

Monk just needs to be tanky enough to survive pulling.

Rogue appears to be full World of Warcraft rogue, not EQ Rogue, and has a ton of utility and CC that basically makes it a puller.
