I was part of the Sigil team that battled rmt stuff in Vanguard. Learned quite a few lessons from the experience, but the main one was: if you are going to take a stand against 3rd party rmt stuff, you need to consider that through all stages of game- design, publishing, marketing, GM tools, etc.

If you wait until after the the game is launched to try and patch the holes you neglected to fill, you're fucked.
The 15 people that played VG did RMT?!

So I don't get it, is this game designed so badly it is going to crash and burn in a month because it is just nostalgia and no one actually wants to play a game with 20 year old design philosophies, or is the game going to be so wildly successful that Chinese botters are going to invest heavily into it and will ruin the experience for everyone. Just trying to keep up with the thread.
False equivalence but, the first one.

People are going to box or quit due to lack of players in a game that requires players, regardless of their feelings on the subject. Any game with free trade and rarity that's gameplay is so basic that it can be boxed will also be botted. Im sure a handful of chinamen will make an appearance (prolly Indonesian though) especially considering the target market is nostalgic dad gamers with tons of disposable income and limited time.

If one didnt know better you could argue its far more likely the botters will be devs or devs adjacent, like the krono farmers in eq. This game seems to go out of its way to design for botting/rmt and avoiding large scale exposure (ie steam) that would bring in foreign bot armies.
