I don’t play bard or plan to play one with twisting in, but the instruments I’ve seen been like +20-30%, wasn’t classic EQ like +80-180%? Seems like a pretty big difference to me

Some initial observations:

  • Mana regen is way too low. At least the spells my Enc possesses. 2-6 regen is literally nothing when the mana cost of spells essentially 10-30x in cost
  • Spells cost way too much money. Especially at lower levels. I can afford all my spells in the time I go from 1 tier to the next (mostly after level 8). In the space from 8 to 12, 12 to 16, 16 to 20 the spell cost far outpace what most people can afford, even with constant grinding. I am always broke and never have my current spells.
  • Group UI needs work. Basic shit like show who the leader is.
  • Need a need or greed type group loot tool. Again, this is basic to a group focused game.
  • Need more stat gear for casters - I have 1 piece of statted gear at 18 and I got it from my class quest. Melee/Tanks are swimming in it it seems.
  • Need to do something about the high level characters perma camping low level dungeon named mobs. It locks out the people who may use the statted gear they drop.
I get the need to recreate EQ1, but this team doesn't have to relearn all the lessons they learned the hard way. It seems Adrullan Online Adventures understands this as that game is similar with better QOL it seems. Idk if this will be ready for EA launch in October. I am having a decent time but the above has been my pain points.

Possibly. Its not like fixing the things listed would alter "the vision" and make it WoW. Just some general pain points I see people making and have experienced myself. Again, we don't have to reinvent the wheel on some of this stuff. Small tweaks will do.

Agree with you on basically every point although I will say in classic EQ affording lowbie spells was a common issue and you usually tried to skip the shitty ones which I don’t kind for some weird reason?

All of these issues should be well known to the devs and I think they’re a bit in denial about them but may change their tune a bit in the long run

You guys are crazy, they buffed the hell out of mana regen. Wizard can nuke and get back up quite frequently compared to how it was. If you have a regen class in your party it's mana city.

That’s true forgot to mention that and I also don’t play casters because I’m not a fag in a dress

Says hes been around in the old days, but seems to forget the pain that is leaping lizzy and other NMs.. Not that it didn't exist before it, it was the first time I learned about RMT.

I played FFXI Horizons roughly a year? or so ago at this point.. and Leaping Lizzy still had 5+ people at the camp roundclock.. The Horizons team even added an alternative method to get a RareEX version through a Lv30 BCNM(LL is like 10-15ish). I'm not entirely sure where it would be now being that it's an era server thats been up for awhile now.

SIR. I was specifically told by anonymous sources with knowledge of game mechanics that THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN. When you make enough content EVERYONE gets to play!!!

It amuses me that making a game this way and adding in a disenchanting/recycling type profession (which I always loved a lot thematically and gameplay wise) really fucks up the game economy. The old WoW devs were very forward thinking in that regard. You can't have a recycle system if stuff isn't generally available to all players, if you do the high level players are incentivized even more to hoard stuff if the skill is actually good. Like enchanting always is because it allows you to have more stats outside of gear progression. Poopsockers will always use it.

I just hope they solve the issues with encounter mechanics rather than goofball solutions like zone-wide loot tables or dynamic spawn points. The best rewards should come from iconic locations that have been hand-picked to be experience defining moments in a player's progression adventure. Getting a Sword of Nostalgia from the Goblin King's Throne Room hits way different than getting one from a random spider mob in a side tunnel.

You can give even mid level mobs abilities that will absolutely fuck up a solo level 60s day (not just boring level based death-touches) but would be reasonable to deal with for a full group of appropriately leveled toons.

I'm very confident the team understands this, especially Shawn, so I'm not too worried.

Ya I think disenchanting makes a lot more sense in an instanced game, so you can create some item decay in a system with no pre-existing constraints on how quickly items enter the world. I'm not entirely sure what the point is in a persistent contested situation, where you can reasonably know only one Sword of Nostalgia is entering the world every 12 hours. Feels like it'll just incentivise high level players to treat lower level PVE targets like crafting resource nodes.

I was thinking scout thidthink this game is planning to “launch” with… 4 starting cities?

EQ had what 11?

I think part of the problem may just be with the underlying game design in 2026. We did not have work from home jobs and broadband internet in 1999.

No offense to a lot of you but you had to be a real dedicated dorklord/addict (or a college student that skipped class) to hardcore it up in these games back then when your computer had 500mhz CPU, 256m or ram and a dialup modem. Nowadays even a semi-loser can just camp some random lowbie dungeon on a second monitor while “working”

Agree I appreciate they tried a DE system but hopefully it ends up removed.
