You and the dozens like you are why the MMO graveyard is so full. There is a market for games that aim to be fun and accessible first and foremost. The masochist crowd is way too small to be profitable.It's so trash because it did that and went away from group play. nobody groups in the grouping mmo because they nerfed it. also everyone complains modern mmo's suck because there's no community and everyone's a souless npc that doesn't care, why is there no community? because there's no interdependance because they nerfed everything. is there even a modern mmo that's decent? i can't even think of 1.

I haven't played it, and am not claiming to have done so. I hope they can turn it around into something fun that has the ability to last. But the punishment as gameplay mentality you are talking about, along with their refusal to implement instancing or some other mechanism to eliminate player friction/soft pvp do not paint a picture that they will succeed. Businesses cost money to operate. This type of game isn't going generate that kind of money because the market is way too small. the reasonable conclusion i have is you just don't know what the fuck you're talking about. also you didn't answer my question what is the gold standard mmo now because there is none, they're all too easy solofests with some grouping where nobody talks to each other and no relationships are formed.
it's not hard to solo, you can level really fast if you just group and makeup the xp in <1 hour, you can literally level 1-60 in the starting city if you want without leaving or being in danger. over 90% of the places to level are outdoors so there's no CR problems besides having to run back even then you can bind close so it's like <5 minutes.

there's like 2 real dungeons in the whole game atm. One you can IVU past everything with a level 1 spell and get any corpse anywhere in the dungeon from buffs you can get at the bank if you want. People will gladly help you for free, the other is like a 20's dungeon thats big but there's plenty of ways to get around that.

IMO. I probably won’t play EA except to fiddle around a bit whenever Trolls are released since that’s America’s Race (tm).
I don’t dislike the game, it’s fine for what it is, but I’m not convinced a true “market” for this niche really exists in 2026 outside of a few hundred no-lifer types. It just does not respect your time at all in a world where most of the players that hit up EQ back in the day now have families and jobs/houses and shit to do.
If I were in College I’d probably have loved this game. But I’m not, and neither is anyone in this thread, and neither is anyone picking this type of game up. I’m not gonna be butthurt if it succeeds though and I think we all know the fanboys are gonna redefine “success” to mean whatever actually happens with this game.
edit: to be clear I am not calling for them to carebear it up or “WoWify” it, just giving my experience with the game as is

No it's not going to insta teleport you around the world, instance everything, have you que up and teleport you, it's not going to give you npcs to replace people, there is xp loss and group interdependance. the loot is not personal it's shared.
I just don't get what you fundamentally want? did you play eq at all? you can play this game part time and be fine, I meet plenty of people who have famalies and jobs in this game, I honestly think this is a crutch based on envry because there's going to be people who play more than you.

It honestly makes me less likely to want to duo up with a random that shows up to the camp I’m at.
Have YOU played EQ in the past 10 years? Because their ADVLoot system is far superior today than what they launched with in 1999, but we can’t have that in MnM because “it doesn’t feel right”
Another good example is making it so I have to find/build a campfire every 20m to not get a -25% exp penalty. Oh all the mobs I just killed already built one? Nah can’t use that one, it’s not “restful” but then if I drop my own in the exact same spot it works just fine. Unless it’s raining. Sweet gameplay loop there. I’d be ok if campfires offered like +hp/mana regen or something but an “exp bonus” just makes it feel like a penalty to play without one
