Anyway, the character artwork/animation in this game is so off-putting I can’t play it, and I haven’t cared about any MMO made in the past 20 years so my bar for visuals is pretty low.
I know I have harped on it…
But… this game is “Too Much Brown” (tm) 2.0 and too much darkness
The lighting and constant visual haze filter of various types, applied ALL the time is horrific.
With all the lag and the dubiousness of running on a MAC there are some times zoning into NH where the filter lags and is not applied for a moment, the art looks great! Then poof… put on your sand cataracts! And the same for even the forest elf city, there is the "green forest" filter
EQ had this, but it was done on the clipping plane- to Tox was yellow "tone" but it was set out on your far clip, ferrot was green, ro sand color, normal places grey generic fade.. so you got the visual "tone" without it making it impossible to see.
But here, there is no clipping- you can see Fallen watch from NH, and its cool...but then, to get /the feel/ they have filters on everything and its horrible.
The character models are minimal but too complex at the same time to "see" what they are wearing on anything outside of ogers.
EQ you could look at someone and awe at their gear in most cases, see their weapons and what they are... WoW did this with the exaggerated shoulders and helm, instant look...
Go stand at the west bank in NH, everyone is a blob of brown, maybe the scarab armor green, and that is about it...
Almost every town NPC "has a lantern" even if its not visual so you can see that there is someone there - the start blackness of everything in between is not "realistic" - any light source seems to have a value, if that value is more than a surrounding source it completely cuts it- and this goes for any shadow the dominant light source casts- even with shadows off this happens in terms of light source dominance etc,
I think The Deep will be popular if the light it in such a way that...you can see consistently, and it will be funny as that will be preferable over the overland.
Interested to see what they do to my poor pally tomorrow.
Spellblade has been interesting... but I have never played a DPS or pure caster, I am always a knight/hybrid so- it is odd to be a "magic sword rouge" vs "Magic sword warrior" as what I kind of see them as
