I picked a low pop server on WoW, won't be doing that again. I used to pick based on server name, but now I'm one of those people that goes straight for the highest pop server available.
As for class, I can't decide. I like cleric, but I'm worried about the lack of haste, slow, sow, ports, thorns and all the other cool or useful stuff. Is rez really important enough to justify missing out on all those things if the other two healers can heal almost as well for 99% of content? The HP buff is not impressive to me. Most people will probably know a cleric they can summon to help them anyway, or have a paladin and just take the exp loss if nothing else. I've also seen people upset about their proc based damage saying it's far too high, so it might get nerfed. The way I see it is the damage is necessary to make up for the lack of utility, but I think a lot of people feel like rez is so important it counteracts being useful in other ways, which I disagree with because it's such a niche spell when everyone knows the world better as deaths come much less frequently. You might only get to rez once every couple of days. Maybe I'm underselling it, who knows.

Shaman seems like the class everyone is recommending for heals since they seem to get it all except ports and they can heal almost as well as cleric. I'm not much of a number cruncher, but haste (and dots if needed) probably help more for the party DPS than the cleric dps boost does, but I could be wrong, and slow is probably more useful to survival than most of the extra stuff in the cleric's toolkit. People say the Shaman can solo, but I'm a bit worried on this aspect. Druid is a mixed bag, but they have a lot of cool utility, SoW, ports, amazing leveling helper buff in thorns. Porting and SoW alone seem worth their weight in gold in this world. With how big the zones are, I can only imagine how much it will help in the longrun. Then there's bard. People seem to be liking the bard changes, and I feel like I might enjoy it as a support class.

Somehow I have to decide between cleric, shaman, druid or bard in under a week. It's good to have choices, so I should probably be happy about it.

Start them all and figure out which you like more. They are all great but play different, it's why I spent the entirety of my play time figuring out what I liked the most.

I played them all to level 10 except bard, and I liked them all. I probably enjoyed cleric the most because it felt like a battle cleric archetype, which I enjoyed in Ragnarok Online a long time ago. I know level 10 isn't much, but I started a bit late. Shaman was painful to level solo, but had good fun in a wyrmsbane group and same with druid. My bard only got to level 5 because I started after the class update. I had a bard before that, and it felt pretty bad. The new bard felt fun in comparison.

At the end of the day I probably will level all of them, but I need one I can use as an anchor to start off with. I imagine the starting areas will be hammered for a while with all the rerollers, so I want something that I can happily take past that point.

The pally and cleric proc is dumb and should not be considered in part of their DPS "ranking" - you can go a very very long time and not get anything... then sometimes you will just blast away like a machine gun.

You get a "proc" level with your strike spells - and each of those levels, the damage scales with you, and each of them can proc on the same strike - so a level 60, with... what 6 or 7? levels of procs - could, in theory, proc ALL of them on a strike and do insane damage... at level 30 my proc strikes were, about 480, 280 and 175 for levels 3, 2 and 1. From the change in pally to the end of beta, I never got all 3 to proc at once, I got 1 and 2, a few times, 1 and 3 at least 4 times and 2 and 3, twice. And yes... it is fun and a lot of damage - but its nowhere near any type of real utility or real consistent DPS curve you can "count" - if the strikes you do to "proc" could just generate a type of static charge that you can release at will... it can wear off slowly when out of combat, and if you are in constant combat it can over charge to be like "multiple procs" - that would actually benefit groups and raids - there as a solo pally, I just came up with a solution that would not just "help me" -- also give us golden man back.... the concretion aura zones need to last double at minimum, forever at best.

WE area is pretty solid start. I wasn't able to find free bags as easy as the NH shady guy and the mostly bad beetle bag. The newb armor quest is way better, the newb class quests are generally better and you can get a decent stash of money with wolf saliva early on. I think they finally put the tradeskill recipe vendors in too if you're absolutely flush with cash.

Looks like the new dungeon added for tomorrow is The Deep's version of Wyrmsbane.

I was curious if there would be one. Does the Wood Elf area have a low level dungeon?

Unfortunate I was too busy to test the last few weeks with all the class changes. Linux client was borked out of the box and I never got around to installing the custom launcher someone made.

I was planning to main warrior or paladin. Im not sure I like what I've heard about pally changes, but how was the warrior rework? They lose all their dps? Forced to be flaccid shield boys?

Edit: after figuring how to navigate their weird forums it appears my assumption is correct. They really doused my interest in this game with the class reworks. I'm sure it's better overall but they just removed a lot of stuff I liked. Whoever took over class design after Nick does not have the same taste as I do

Took some tinkering but I got the game working pretty good on Linux. I never got around to trying that custom launcher someone made but wonder if it works better

Yea it used to work fine for me, but recently hit a bug where it would launch the character models would never load. Seemed to be a silent failure in the patcher when I did take some time to dig. Never gave it a good solid chunk of time to work through though. I'm sure I'll figure it out at some point after release. Definitely still plan to play

Funny you mention that because my characters are invisible since updating today, both in selection and creation. Haven't had any problems until now, does the custom launcher fix this?

Allegedly. Worth running repair from the normal launcher too, I've had that fix it

Any time that happens, open the launcher and hit repair then relaunch the game. Always fixed it for me
