I've heard American History X has an alternative ending where all his skinhead buddies are waiting quietly in his living room, and you can hear hair clippers coming from the bathroom. He walks out with a shaved head, dressed how he used to (khakis, combat boots, black jacket) and quietly goes "Let's go".
Would've been powerful but at the same time negating the entire message of the movie.

i never really got the message of that movie. i thought the point was, that there were 2 sides to everything and there are people willing to exploit others emotions for personal gain. the first part of the movie was a setup for how white people get fucked over and need to stand up for themselves against the left wing agenda, then when norton hits prison he realizes that the aryan brotherhood was just using the white power message to sell drugs and it opened his eyes to what that white power guy was doing on the outside. but his complete turnaround into this pussy never really made sense to me. sure the skinhead group seemed brainwashed into doing some heinous shit, but the message i thought was still valid. the ending you just mentioned seems to make more sense. i guess the suits didnt want to come off like they were promoting the skinhead movement.

Eastern Promises dropped off pretty considerably after the whole "I'mma dump the baby in the river" scene.
Just saw Escape Plan today, and it falls into pretty much the same category. Not exactly high cinema but the last 10 minutes were so sloppy and unbelievable that I was rolling my eyes by the credits.

That's scary. It's been a while. but I remember that movie was such shit in the first 15 or 20 minutes that I had to turn it off. If the ending was actually worse then wow.

Maybe Last of the Mohecians? Not the directors cut. The theatrical release was gorgous. But the movie... just.. kinda. ended.
To the point where I walked out of the theater thinking, "Well what the fuck was the point of THAT? Besides being pretty. Oh, and the scene where the crucified the dude."
Directors cut fixed that problem.
