I watched episode two last night and it wasn't as bad as the first. I was ready to write the show off entirely but I'll give it another episode. But I also have no background with the story like some of you.

Eh, maybe I'll watch ep2 then. Was pretty underwhelmed with ep1. Stale dialog, half-hearted acting, predictable plot points. Didn't really grab me at all tbh. These days I need to feel compelled to watch a second episode in a series and I definitely didn't feel compelled in this case.

I also didn't read the books, so no preconceptions

Temper your expectations though. It didn't blow me away or anything. It just wasn't as bad as the first.

I hate woke shit, but I've read the books, and I'm not entirely disgusted by the woke shit in the show because it was kinda always there in the books, just not in your face. Also, them being space hippies is what makes it work with SecUnit, because if they were normal they wouldn't be so fucking retarded and need him to save them.

The throuple crap and all that shit would make me immediately turn off any other show, but somehow it is tolerable in this show because I know that's how it always was. Even if it wasn't gone over in detail in the books, you knew they were exactly like this, so seeing it on screen doesn't shock me. But I can see how non-readers would immediately be disgusted by it.

I will say that I don't remember hating the augmented guy (the only other white guy, of course) so much in the books, but maybe I'm forgetting since it was so long ago.

I like Dastmalchian so much though it is hard to hate him even when we're supposed to hate him.

Also, not sure if they'll even try to address it in the show but in the books it is just <future year> and there's barely any foundation for the history of Earth, space exploration, etc. There are small references to things, but it isn't something trying to solve how Humans go to this point in time and technology and politics. The setting is very interesting with the corporate vs. free stuff and all the factions mixed and mingled. There's really in-depth discussions about the requirements for these people to take the SecUnit, be bonded, how the finances flow between everyone and the politics of it all. It isn't like an Anne Leckie book or anything, enough detail to make it interesting and really goes into the financial motivations of the protagonists. Hopefully they dive more into that aspect of the story.

kinda sad I read the book now, finished book 1 last night and I pretty much know what's going to happen.

Show is faithful to the books including being too short. Skarsgard is not as snarky as Free but he really nails the social awkwardness. The way they weave in the Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon is great!

Agreed with too short. I feel like every time I'm like "did I quit this show?" Watch the next episode, it gets maybe kind of interesting, but not really super interesting. Next one rolls around and I'm not sure if I give a shit about the show or not.

On the plus side, they're short, so I'm not losing much if the show sucks.

I had all of them, then deleted them mid way through book 2. I can only read about anxiety and nervousness so much and then we got to the pronoun race and I was the fuck outta there. I'll still watch the show though.

That new blonde chick is a bit creepy. The episode was really painting the picture that someone, pretending to be this team, was the reason the other team all died. I suspect that the writers want us to come to the conclusion that she actually caused it all. But whatever. I'm enjoying the show.

I'm wondering if she was the one programming the boys to kill the crews. She mentioned having technical know how and has been interested in what they are doing.
