In reference to the offer sheet being a contract that would be hard to trade...I can't feel bad about Dallas offering a poison pill contract to Parsons. Houston pretty much set the standard for that on their Asik and Lin signings.

^bingo. That is pretty much what he said yesterday on asports radio station here in Houston.

He took a helluva jab at Mark Cuban during that interview as well. Something along the lines of, "The good teams are the ones that find the Chandler Parsons, not the ones that pay them".
Cuban has put together two teams that have made the finals and won a ring. Morey ain't got shit on Cuban.

Morey fucked up huge this offseason. He should have kept Parsons on his deal another year and built responsibly.

What moves were available to the Thunder that they didn't jump on?
Also, by all accounts they didn't make any moves to secure a starting 2. What good is signing an aging 3 point specialist to back up your 2 spot when there is no real stater for that position? Are they going to start Reggie Jackson there? The same dude who consistently waves off the best goddamn offensive player in the league like he knows something everyone else doesn't? I can't see that working long term.

They could have also went after a true point guard and moved RW to the 2, but they didn't do that either. They just sat back, let their mid-level exception expire, and pissed everyone off. I don't even care that we lost Thabo, but we also lost Butler and Fisher. They weren't great by any means but those were the 3 guys that Scott Brooks went to first over his young players. What the hell is he going to now, actually develop young talent? Can he even do that?

The only one of those 3 that matters was Fisher, and he didn't leave for another team. I like that this pretty much forces Brooks to play a ton of Lamb and Adams early and often.

He swung and missed and yeah, in hindsight he should have kept Parsons around for another year on his rookie deal, but I don't think his rational was flawed. By all accounts, Parsons didn't want to be in Houston long term (pursing modeling is apparently a real thing for him), but the RFA situation forces him to be. They really thought they were landing Bosh. Miami swooped and made a panic move to keep him. Bosh isn't worth a max deal for 5 years to be your best player, but he's certainly worth a max deal to be the 3rd guy a team willing to spend that much money. They land Bosh, the RFA situation with Parsons means they lock up a Dwight/Harden/Bosh/Parsons core until 2016. And that there is a championship caliber team.

Are they a worse team now than they were last year? Certainly. But Morey isn't trying to just build a playoff team. He wants a championship. Who knows if he ever gets it, but matching that Parsons offer sheet pretty much concedes that they won't.

I don't really blame him for anything that happened.

Liquid, I understand the weaknesses with the OKC roster but I want to know what specific deals they missed on. You guys sort of have a point with Gasol, he went for less money than I expected him to, but the Bulls signed him outright. The Thunder can't do that. Were they supposed to jump in and convince him to take even less money? Is Lance Stephenson going to come in and play for the MLE (5 mil) when Gordon Hayword just got a max contract? I don't see the starting two guard available at mid level money, nor sign and trade scenarios that make sense. You can't just acquire players with no regard for the salary cap.

I get what you're saying, and most of what I'm complaining about is just out of frustration. Who knows whether they actually tried to make some moves that fell through or not. It is just frustrating to watch the competition get better and see the Thunder's major needs go un-addressed.

I will add to what Slaythe said by asking who you wanted besides Pau that makes this team immediately much better? I wanted Mike Miller but I think Morrow is near his level and will open up the court just as well. Beyond that I feel like the best way for this team to get better is for the young talent to get experience. I will be much more comfortable next post season if Adams, Lamb, and McGary play a ton of meaningful minutes as long as Brooks doesn't shit the bed by agree to pick up another 35+ dude and then play him and Telfair in the playoffs because of their "veteran experience." How are those young guys supposed to become experienced players if they are constantly benched for players that are marginally better and past the prime of thier careers?

You got me. I don't know who we could have gotten (besides Pau) that would have addressed our needs for a starting 2 or an inside scoring threat. It is still frustrating to see the glaring holes go unfilled year after year.

Next year will be especially frustrating if they either re-sign Perkins or don't do anything significant with the cap space they get with him gone.

The Thunder can still find a way to win the good old fashioned way: train hard, get better, get smarter.

I'm not seeing the issue; Westbrook is OKC's starting 2-guard. Start Reggie at the point...it'll be fine. The only mind-numbingly stupid thing is that they never amnestied Perkins or forced him on Houston in the Harden trade. Adams should probably be a starter if he can keep his aggression up and cut down his fouls.

Silly. Westbrook can't be the best PGandthe best SG in the league at the same time.

Cavs signed Mike Miller for a 2 year (1 year opt out clause). He took less money than others were offering but wanted to be reunited with Lebron.

Ugh, fucking Mike Miller. It's going to take a while for me to cheer for these guys who I use to vehemently hate. All we need now is fucking Birdman and Ray Allan and my head might explode.

I'll go ahead and check in here from New Orleans just so we can pan out the mix a little bit here, although I can't stand to watch basketball my friends who like to watch say we will be a better team this year!

Haha I'm in the same boat. I have fucking HATED Mike Miller for years but I'm sure I'll get over it the first night he hits 6 threes in a game. This whole thing is surreal.
