I played a few hours during beta, knew it wasn't for me. I played a mage type. The whole thing reminded me of Tera, the combat was pretty cool the way it worked, quite fluid. But I just didn't really like the game. I felt like I was playing NWN all over again, but with one character. It made me wish I had a whole party to control, and better story. So I just started playing Baldur's Gate instead. Far better.
A major issue I have with these modern MMO's is that there is no major long term hook for me. My new love (for the past year or so), is EQ Mac, and these new games just can't really match that imo, because although the gameplay is slow and old fashioned, it's also gigantically long. I've been playing it for several months and I'm still only level 30 something, and I've barely even scratched the surface of the game. I've hunted in the "old world", currently in Mistmoore hoping to get to 39 soon so I can then head to Lower Guk. This is my long term objective for the next month or so, but after Guk I'll head to Kunark and have that entire expansion to enjoy. Then Velious, and then the rest. Not sure how long I'll stick with it but I love knowing that there is tons of content to play through. These modern games... you play a few hours and you're half way through it, and everything you ever wanted just gets handed to you. There is nothing to strive for. Makes me not even care. And not motivated to log in.
