On Valhalla the yellow chat is barely moving now. No Chest runs or group finds. This game might be dead tomorrow. A bunch of players around North WW planted res tents everywhere.

I agree that the game actually improved a lot compared to where it had been. I played 1100+ hours so I cannot say the game was bad. It did a lot of things right. What a let down to have come out with an expansion so good that it caused a 4k+ Que at night because so many came back, only to essentially shut it down a few weeks later. Yes the servers are on until 2026 but they could have just saved the money and shut them down next week for all the good the announcement did.

Damn, that sucks

I had gotten kinda tired of the game, but I came back when the new content dropped and my old guildies decided to get the team together again. I honestly think if they had launched the game with many of the improvements they added later (no keyed dungeon bullshit, less forced walking, improved gearing system), it probably would not have bled so many players as quickly.

Problem was, they were not charging cash for this shit. Other than the entrance fee. And im pretty positive, with the lackluster cash shop, that shit was not working out either. So it was pretty much a cash sink for Amazon. Maybe Daybreak can buy it, looool.

They are pinning their hopes on Luna (free with Amazon Prime) and console games. No one streams games and consoles are dead. These people are allergic to good decision making.

That is what I was thinking earlier. I bet they are messaging everyone at Amazon to try and buy it.

Get woke, go broke. Now all the DEI hires at Amazon will have to get real jobs.

The game had its share of issues, but "woke" didn't even rank in the top 1000 of them

But hey, beep boop parrot stuff about a game you probably never played in any capacity

Welp, I guess I have to play WoW now...

This is the reason I play a season of WoW every new expac. So many people refuse to do this for "reasons" that hate WoW. Then on a dumpsterfire broken game or some gofundme game with 0 players.

WoW is a consistent experience you can count on-- early access and life support aren't my thing.

I had fun at release. Though reading about the dupe issues, the weird thing with ducking and healing 10 times quickly, and other bugs because of the shit code was even more fun. I totally used the greataxe bug where you were stuck running at like 300% run speed permanently , and maxed out my faction day 1 doing those three repeatable quests throughout the zone. It was so quick, I found out there was a 5 minute timer before the guy would offer the next 3. I got some hate tells from the pvp try-hards that kept chasing me.

Hopefully the sound people can snag a good job, that was an amazing part of the game. The tree chopping echoing through the valley, etc.

This was one of the major things that set it above all other MMO's. No game achieved the quality of sound like this game did. Mining and Chopping both were incredible. You could do nothing but follow the noise and would come right up onto the person causing the noise. You could 1-10 rate all of the aspects of this game and ambient sound was an 11.

Ya, sound design was solid. World looked pretty good as well. Combat was decent.

Early on the game's man issues were duping and the long lasting perception impacts (even after all the dupe stuff had been effectively nullified by inflation, players still assumed it was still dupe crazy), gatekeep crafting tied to character progression (high barrier for entry and easy to control the market when you got to max level), toxic town management (back when town owners could set tax rates, some purposely set everything to max), no shared auction house and unable to access storage remotely, forced to run everywhere and how tiring that gets when combined with the prior issue (teleports also used to cost a fuckton of azoth and teleport fees were based on weight+distance combined), needing to level the "loot level" of every single type of gear which you could only do via chest runs realistically, lack of meaningful pvp for the masses beyond OPR, keyed dungeons with limits and a high barrier of entry to get more keys (they introduce content then make it a pain to actually run), network code issues (rubberbanding, bugs like immortal hatchet users in PVP).

To their credit, they actually did fix pretty much all of that. However, I suspect the LOTR MMO was taking most of their resources because New World began to stagnate in terms of updates, which were slow. They had been promising war overhauls for like 2 years and nothing ever manifested beyond a change to how influence pushes worked. The game bled players because there wasn't enough content to keep people hooked and playing. PVPers just warlogged and only played the game when a war was scheduled, PVE content loop gets stale. People did chest runs because it was one of the few social aspects of the game where all sorts of players could join in, but it isn't very engaging content

Biggest problem IMO was the lack of end game and the meek 2K server size at launch. The shit like dupes and all that didnt really matter that much population wise. I mean they did but not to the extent of people quitting. At least from what I remember. Then they handed out free server transfers like 2x through that span and entire guilds would just jump ship if they could not dominate a server or lost a few wars. (Owning the most popular cities) Which added to the problem as well. I mean shit, they had almost a million people in the beginning and this was prime COVID times where people just sat at home for a few years too. As to the bugs? All complex mmos will have bugs and shit and growing pains. Some things you just cannot test internally.

The loot system was one of the major weaknesses of the game. Legendary was not legendary at all. I liked one suggestion that stated that the loot system should have been placed on a vendor. You build the item you want through a coin that you got from chests and major bosses. The more you farm, the more loot you could build and try out for different ideas. The powerful augments would be a lot more expensive while the filler ones would be cheap.

I could only tolerate the chest runs so much. I hated having to go through everything and destroy 99% of what I had looted.

On my server I was one of the few first 60s and in the early days chest runs were actually fun. There was like 5-6 of us which would have to clear a lot of that content to get to the chests. It was a challenge with some of those bosses which were pretty tough. But of course that didnt last too long. The groups were getting larger and larger as the weeks went buy making all that shit trivial.

If theres one MMO out there id actually want private servers for, this is it. My step dad is lost as fuck right now, sad to see that. I guess the game was made non-purchasable on steam.

Even walking through brush and bushes all had different sounds depending on what it was, and how thick it was. The sound for this game should be the bar that every other game moving forward should try to meet imo.

And honestly, I loved the crafting system and graphics of the game. I honestly think that after my experience in Vanilla WoW, this could be my second-favorite MMO of all time. It did far more right than it did wrong, and what it did wrong, it eventually fixed. WT's while old after a bit, are no different than any other game's daily grind.

This honestly guts me. I've been lucky in that every MMO I've played, I left on my own terms and this is the first I've been forced to stop playing due to shutting down the servers and I gotta tell you, it feels bad man. Feels real bad.

I wish they would sell it off, honestly. Even if NetEase bought it and added a couple of currencies to it, I'd still play the hell out of it.

I agree. It would be nice if somebody else would take over the game. That being said, if no new content was coming out, I am not sure how well the game would do long term. The population has already nose dived because of the announcement.

Just when the game was beginning to be what everyone had asked for...

I hope Intrepid is looking at this. It took years for the New World Team to come around on certain ideas. If Ashes of Creation repeats what New World did, AoC will be dead on arrival.
