I agree. It would be nice if somebody else would take over the game. That being said, if no new content was coming out, I am not sure how well the game would do long term. The population has already nose dived because of the announcement.

Just when the game was beginning to be what everyone had asked for...

I hope Intrepid is looking at this. It took years for the New World Team to come around on certain ideas. If Ashes of Creation repeats what New World did, AoC will be dead on arrival.

I was the biggest AoC nerd you ever would have come across a year ago. Now, I'm so over it tbh. Not only is their vision for the game now, not something I find fun, the game just isn't something I have time for at this point with the insane grind involved. This isn't the early 2000s, I don't have time to grind hours for a single level.

I am right there with you. I supported AoC a lot early on(You can see that in my posts), even when progress was slow. Recently though, they have just taken what used to be fairly fun(Alpha2 phase 1) and gutted the system with this "Hard mode" ideology that will certainly fail. As Amazon can attest to, it costs a lot of money to keep a system in place and generate more content. If this is not a wake up call for Intrepid, I honestly do not know what would be, until it is obviously to late.

I literally was going to pick this up on PS5 to play through all the content I missed, and .... it's closing down. WTF.

The loot system was one of the major weaknesses of the game. Legendary was not legendary at all. I liked one suggestion that stated that the loot system should have been placed on a vendor. You build the item you want through a coin that you got from chests and major bosses. The more you farm, the more loot you could build and try out for different ideas. The powerful augments would be a lot more expensive while the filler ones would be cheap.

I could only tolerate the chest runs so much. I hated having to go through everything and destroy 99% of what I had looted.

The revamped loot/perk system was sort of moving towards that

You can still play it - servers are staying up through at least 2026 (although they could always rugpull)

I would not buy the game now. The server population took a huge hit. It is very difficult to get into an expedition. Chest runs are a lot fewer than they used to be. The Market is not as viable anymore. The game suffers a lot when it has a low population.

Servers will be shut down by May, if I had to take a proper guess. They wont keep it going if the market can't pay the server costs.

The game had its share of issues, but "woke" didn't even rank in the top 1000 of them

But hey, beep boop parrot stuff about a game you probably never played in any capacity

Fuck right off.

What part of garbage in, garbage out do you not understand? When you hire woke people that have no business being game devs, you get disasters like New World. This is same company that created the "Rings of Power" abomination.

Hiring woke people means you are putting identity over merit and competency. That's unsustainable.

If it was F2P people might get what entertainment they can out of it, by comparison SWTOR was put out to pasture but they keep the servers on with small updates.

But this was chopping off at the knees for a box price game shortly after a comeback update. They declared there is nothing more with an expiration date on service which they won't even get to because everyone smart will hard abandon it to play other games that have a future.

You time travel a month ago to warn people so they save their money.

I’m actually curious how finished the LOTR game was - LOTR with a similar environmental and sound design would have been pretty cool

Selling that off might be harder because of rights

Yeah, theres a lot of craziness tied to that IP. I'm fairly sure they would have to sign off on a sale of it and I'm sure they'd want a piece of the pie.

It's been soft abandoned up until now. A hard abandon is certainly an escalation worth noting.

Cant really compare SWTOR to this. SWTOR made EA fucking BANK through the years. Close to 1 billion dollars through its lifetime and still counting. This game? Im not sure they even recouped the initial investment of $200 million. I mean its pretty obvious that this was not making money since they are in fact shutting it down. If this was some sort of revenue generator, they would still be there for it.

EA sold off SWTOR a couple years ago.

Doesnt matter, it made them a billion plus. My point still stands.

Short Answer: Yes—Electronic Arts (EA) still owns and publishes Star Wars: The Old Republic, but in 2023 they moved development and live operations from BioWare to Broadsword Online Games. EA remains the publisher, while Broadsword now handles day‑to‑day development and support in partnership with Lucasfilm Games.

Broadsword Online Games (led by former BioWare veterans) now manages development and live service.
This means SWTOR is still under EA’s umbrella, but BioWare itself no longer develops it.

Since it hasn’t been brought up….this is what New World and the LotR game were scrapped for. This is what all those people lost their jobs for. So Amazon could concentrate on launching and supporting this and the games that will result from it using AI.

I’m legit bummed out. I was having a good time with the game. Even did some PvP and had fun getting my ass beat. If the game launched with Nighthaven or even the last expansion, I think we’d be having a different convo.

I really hope the AI bubble pops and screws all these greedy tech companies over. Gaming needs a crash and get all these greedy shareholders out so we can get back to good games and companies that have the patience to grow a product.

No need to buy it on PS5. It’s free on PS+.
