I love the reporter trying to bait a sensational answer from the guy. And the attitude he threw at Jarry "HE HIT YOU WITH THE STICK". Shutup guy. Jarry seems like a real class act hockey player though so respect points towards him. God I wish I knew the little chirp that got Marchand so hot. I bet it was hilarious.

Also St. Louis WTF. This reeks of their owners bias to just hire guys from Quebec. Still not mad at it. Guys a huge stud down here and we wish him all the best, even if it is for the most despicable Canadian team out there.

6 games for Marchand, which is basically the minimum for an in person hearing since those are for suspensions of 5+ games.

I wish I knew what Jarry said too because Marchand called the league soft when Panarin got pissed at him for dissing Russia. The irony is delicious.

For some reason I could never quite hate the rat. He's given me reason after reason but he still doesn't bother me. Glad he's suspended and all though, especially because we play them after the break.

Also rooting for MSL. Real good dude. He's done some coaching in the minors, I know the Rangers offered him a gig with their AHL affiliate but he declined saying he wasn't ready to take that step. I'm guessing the Habs are as low as stakes can get, good place to cut you're teeth and it doesn't hurt that he's french canadian as hell. Gorton was around when the Ranger FO traded for him so i'm sure they have some connection there.

Montreal and Edmonton both firing their coaches in a 24 hour time period. Finally getting to the juicy part of the season.

USA looked good in game 1 of the Olympics. Granted it was vs China but was still a good showing. I liked China's heavy chippy game though.

We've been shit lately, no Ovechkin tonight, St. Louis was always a Cap killer...wonder if we hand him his first coaching win tonight.

Sounding like Vegas is gonna pull a Kucherov on Mark Stone when Eichel gets healthy. THIS is why it annoyed me when TB circumvented the cap. It got them a cup, fucking obviously other teams are gonna do it too.

Stop saying its circumventing the cap. It's a way for teams to salvage seasons on major injuries. These teams aren't trying to fake shit, the kind of hammer that comes down if that comes out would be huge.

This is what LTIR is for, but the Bolts used it to circumvent the cap into the post season.

If Mark Stone goes on LTIR for a "nagging injury" just as Eichel is ready to come back it's a little too coincidental for me. Think what you will, but i'm not naive.

As far as any hammer coming down, it was a voted on and approved LTIR policy by 30 of 32 owners. Why would the league drop the hammer?

That's the issue, and I as a longtime fan of the sport hate it. So do many others. No surprise you wouldn't though.

Its about the saddest thing you could complain about in this sport and really makes you look whiney. Just saying its a bad look. No surprise coming from a NY fan though.

Going to be honest...a gloved punch to the mask and a little messing with him with the stick isn't worth 5+ games. Maybe I'm just old school, but seems like a massive overreaction to it being against a goalie.

This is more the 1-2 games tops for me and probably better handled by Pittsburgh just handling it in game with him (if he wouldn't duck out on fighting someone).

I don't know man. He punched a goalie in the head. Don't care if he had gloves on, or if the goalie had a helmet on. He punched a goalie in the head. The smacked him in the head with a stick. That's just a lack of control of your own behaviour. That's just stupid behaviour, and he deserves to be punished.

Also, did you watch the Canadian Olympic team destroy the Germans? It was glorious. I'm really interested to see what happens when Canada meets the USA in Olympic hockey. I think Canada has the edge, but it will be a good game.

I know someone on the Chinese team. He's American, but has been playing there for a while. He's telling me China has no chance to win almost anything. I guess we'll see.

Something everyone can agree on: Seider is a fucking stud. This should be timestamped (8:45 in) to where he kills 30s of a penalty pretty much single handedly. Yes it's against Philly, but it's still damn impressive.

TB wasnt even the first team to do this. Chicago did it with Kane and they won a cup that year. TB even brought it up that year and tried to get it fixed. The league laughed at the idea so they went ahead and did it too. But saying they are circumventing the cap to win is fucking dumb. Why would TB want to hold out the current league MVP for a full season. Hindsight is 20/20 but its a dumb thought process to holdout your best player to cheat the system. It was brought up again last offseason and the league said they didnt want to do anything about it still.

Sucks to lose to the Avs without MacKinnon but not surprising. They have so many amazing skaters.

Florida, NY and Carolina are the people I'm most worried about still. I think the Avs have it a bit easier in the West then the boys in the East. Still it could very well finally be their year.

Tampa's number 1 weakness is, and continues to be defense zone turn overs. Boys gotta practice their chip game.

The LTIR situation is not going to change because it doesn’t impact the only purpose of the salary cap, which was to give owners cost certainty. Have a 40 million on the ltir? Who cares, insurance is paying that shit. An extra 40 million of contract back in the playoffs? Who cares, the players don’t get paid in the playoffs.

Neither owners or players have any incentive to change the rule because both more than anything want to get paid.

I think it does matter if it's a gloved punch, we see that happen in scrums all the time get nothing. I know it was to a goalie, which is weird that it means so much more simply because they are wearing a mask that offers more protection from something like that as well...but to me it's more a thing that the Pens did nothing about it rather than it needs supplemental discipline. I'll grant you the high stick later on is more of a thing imo, but even saying "smacked" seems strong for what little contact there was, and the fact a linesman was holding him meant he might have been just trying to buzz the guy and not make contact.

The optics just look horrible, and yes, it was all rather stupid in general. But 6 games? For a gloved punch and a love tap to the mask?

I don't completely compare the Kane to Kucherov thing, because Kucherov didn't play a single game of that regular season and had surgery December 29th. Kane got hurt midseason with a broken clavicle he needed surgery on to repair, and that was Feb 25th in a normal year when playoffs start mid April. Kucherov also had been practicing with Tampa for 2 full weeks prior to suddenly being cleared for Game 1. Normal recovery time for broken clavicle surgery is 3 months, and not fully recovered for a bit after that. Kane was literally coming back after 2 months to play in the playoffs.

Because they were a lock to make the playoffs anyway in a covid shortened season and having your MVP fully rested to start the playoffs massively improves their odds at doing the only thing that matters. Winning a cup.

Seems I touched a nerve here. Looking at your pfp I can't imagine why. You're right about NY fans though, they are pretty terrible so you're opinion is only mostly bad.
