If people buy it I would do the same - they make money hands over fists.

Also 8-Bit back in 1985 was equivalent to what was seen in $2,000 arcade machines in Arcades and bowling alley's and mostly like for like.

This wouldn't be for the general consumer but for the folks here, people should just buy a Steam Deck and emulate the shit out of Switch 2 titles and would be far better off.

No disagreements there. Straight, we should be able to more efficiently produce this thing at x cost is warranted. Looking at it from a historical console, accessories, and games perspective, inflation has increased things to such a level that we are still somewhat below the console prices of old.

Nintendo will 100% give you 4 year old tech and charge you slightly under something that is 5x better. No OLED at start is criminal. What looks like only one actual new game in Mario Kart is also bonkers.

I keep saying the handheld market isn't where it was back in 2017 for a good reason. A lot has changed over the past 8 years and the Switch really stood out back then as there wasn't much in the way of good high performance handhelds especially anything with any real platform backing back in the late 2010's. Steam Deck really changed all of that pretty dramatically, and the Switch managed to stay highly popular simply due to its existing popularity and install base before that released as well as it's relatively low price point. Basically the Switch 2 is going to get cross-shopped in a way the original Switch wasn't.

I just think the market is really in a different place today for Nintendo to have a repeat of the sort of success they had with the first Switch, especially given how they really haven't changed much about it, heck they're still refusing to add analog triggers for some reason. I think the Switch is naturally going to standout to kids far more than a Steam Deck would, which seems to revolve around an older crowd, but how many kids are going to get their parents to buy them a new Switch 2 at $450 remains to be answered. It could be like a Wii U situation where a lot of parents looked at it and said "we already have a Wii at home" or in this case "we already have a Switch at home."

it will work but non switch 2 controllers will not be able to turn the system on, so that sucks

maybe with HDMI-CEC just switching inputs will wake the switch 2 on if its docked

i wonder how long it'll take for switch 2 emulators to start running. 6 months? 2 years? i imagine faster but no clue, might take a while to even just jailbreak a switch 2. It would be hilarious if it happens insanely faster though, since a switch 2 is roughly a PS4 level of performance it should be emulatable on any decent 30xx+ PC

The Wii U's constraints around its tablet killed that system. I would consider this similar to the 3DS with pricing, which may have been brought up already. Their price point will drop if their sales are shit.

Stood in line for an hour or so at my Gamestop, I was like 10th in line and they had 79 units for sale. Grabbed the Mario Kart bundle, ended up being the most painless preorder I've placed.

Yeah, other than the expected issues because of the Amazon vs. Nintendo war and Amazon still not selling any Nintendo stuff directly which rules out any possibility of a preorder there, it seemed really easy to get one if you wanted one. I was one click away from preordering from Walmart since Gamestop closed my local store back in January, but I just couldn't do it. Back compat is the only reason I wanted the thing, and every bit of news about how that's going to "work" has been terrible so far. Don't play Nintendo first party games, so I think it's going to be a really long time before there's an actual exclusive on the system that's a must-play.

Any still out there? Wife wants to pre order, but I really do not suspect this is going to be some massive long standing ps5 type sell out of stock for a year+ type thing

Well I managed to get a Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle pre-ordered at Best Buy, they are usually the best electronic store in my area and I like them better than Gamestop, especially if I have to stop into an actual store since I don't exactly trust the random delivery guys on a launch like this. Nintendo never came through in any email offer for me, checked again today and nothing. I was just lucky enough to be on the internet and checking on BB right at the right time to secure a pre-order last night. Gamestop held off their pre-orders until early this morning apparently but I didn't bother as I already got an order through on BB. I guess everything worked out in the end, well I hope it does lol guess I'll see come June 5'th.

I think you're out of luck for online orders at this point, but still a chance that a local Gamestop will take a preorder.

The gamestops around me are… very… “stereotypical” of what gamestops are.. like take every nerd weedhead weeb trope and they all are them to a T 10/10 at minimum, 12 if its a launch day of something

walmart had non MK bundle, by the time I signed in the add to cart error, refreshed and poof lol

walmart sometimes adds more pre-orders on/off throughout the day, I guess just randomly check

I'd be careful of shipping this thing, since it releases nationwide on June 5th good chance some criminals will just follow UPS trucks around and porch pirate a ton of free switch 2's.

I stopped in a random gamestop 3 hours after it opened about 20 miles from me, had to do some errands near there and was just curious. They still had 3 mario kart bundles ($500) and 15+ regulars, no line and I put $50 down as a deposit on a bundle. Not really sure I'll pick it up, i don't honestly give a single fuck about any of the launch games and while I like Mario Kart I'd stop playing after 2-3 weeks. Still, if they announce a new killer game I have the option to have it now.

Smarter play is just wait till holiday 2026, they'll have probably an OLED model out by then and a cheaper bundle with actual games worth buying. I'm pretty glad Animal Crossing isn't a launch title, thats the only game my wife plays and she'd want 2 switches and do romantic shit on nooks torture island.
