Now though you see why they went with what seems like a 100% Online system.

The "carts" you buy from stores seem to just have a downloader(keeps the game cart size down for cheaper manufacturing).

But gives Nintendo the ability to just straight up black-list Consoles.

I hope Nintendo understands, they just pissed off the wrong people rofl.

Businesses are so stupid.

The data behind piracy is pretty clear. You are never going to beat the hackers at their game and you will never convince some people to pay for your product. Maximum profit with maximum goodwill from your customers comes from doing the barest minimum DRM necessary to stop normies from figuring out free games. Once you are past that bar, every dollar you spend stopping piracy is just throwing money into the toilet, because the people who are dedicated to pirating are going to do it or you are going to make things so disgusting that everyone hates you. It is amazing to me that this is so clear over the last 30 years but boomer executives can't get it through their heads.

I mean, the best part of the "Cart" system is that you KNOW games are gunna be pirated now.

I await the day someone reverse-engineers their network model and just completely hijacks online functionality allowing anyone to play with anyone without having to ask daddy nintendo first.

They have been very slowly, completely seperate Servers have been worked on, ever sense Wii servers came done.

But recently they've ran into a wall, sense one of the devs had access to a SDK for Wii(which is what WiiU/Wii/3DS used for network protocol)

nintendo shut the project down.. with almost 20 year old Source .. *facepalm* I bet that the Switch/Switch2 servers are still using that same base code for there system, hence why they shut it down.

I also found the skyward sword motion control, and the weapon breaking so repugnant that i didn't beat either game.

I did enjoy echoes of wisdom tho, but i played it like it was pet-caster the zelda game. i didn't fret too much about her not having a sword. I could turn into link to use his sword here and there, but i found myself using the various pets for various situations and was amused enough by that.

and skyward sword is a game about doing as little sword and shield combat as possible, cus they just break. so it's been many moons since i played a normal ass zelda game. hell i'd say windwaker was the last because twilight princess had gay ass waggle shit too.

Twilight Princess on Gamecube was probably the last normal Zelda game, except it had that "play as a wolf for hours" gimmick. That was especially annoying at the beginning. You finally have the ability to swing Link's sword by swinging your arm, which is half of what we were excited about when the Wii and the game came out, and then it forces you to play as a wolf for the first 3-4 hours of the game. So you're swinging your arm to wolf-bite, wondering when you can actually hold a sword. They can't help themselves with the gimmicks.

2D Zeldas fared a little better, and I think Link Between Worlds (3DS) and Four Swords Adventures (Game Cube / Wii) are super worth-playing as 2D games. You can play FSA single-player, and it's basically a sequel to LTTP. Then LBW is another sequel to LTTP. Lot of people slept on these, especially FSA.

As for 3D, I've basically been wanting another Ocarina since Ocarina. Twilight Princess looked like it'd return to the Ocarina style of game, but it had issues. Imagine if Ocarina got a full remake with modern resolution and light effects etc, like Demon Souls? That's probably the best thing they could do, over a new game where they'd inevitably shoehorn in some waggle gameplay because they can't help themselves. All the new ones are probably just going to emulate BOTW's open world anyway, now that Nintendo fans have discovered how much fun Elder Scrolls type games are.

But why? I don’t really understand the deep technical aspects of VRR, but if it can do it in the weaker handheld mode, why would it not work when docked by default?

Compatibility problems with TVs? Other consoles have figured that out so maybe they're just cutting corners.

apparently because the switch 2 dock uses HDMI 2.0 chips to save money, while VRR requires HDMI 2.1 chipsets

so yeah, expect to pay $100 to upgrade to a HDMI 2.1 dock in 2026 lol

I'm like 99% certain that steam sales/humble bundles/etc have basically had people backlog purchase games they stole a decade ago, just to have the air of legitimacy. You aren't going to convert the hardcore thieves, but the casual piratebay kid? Yeah, you were never going to get full price, but he's willing to toss $10 your way for the fun he had years ago a lot of the time. And that's literally $10 (minus all the cuts) you would have never seen without it. And it costs you almost nothing to do.

I think you missed the goodwill portion of my comment. No one would bitch if Nintendo eventually sold their old games on virtual console for 5 bucks a pop. In fact, when they first introduced the virtual console back on the Wii I'm pretty sure they had some cheap games and everyone was thrilled. These days their shit rarely goes on sale and never hits anywhere close to 10 bucks. So they continuously fuck over customers that bought their games previously and refuse to make back catalog collections affordable. Fuck Nintendo, I hope they go out of business.

Thousand Year Door remaster being $60 was a good example of how they fuck people over.

What are the odds that these will work on a Switch 2? They work on Switch 1, and Bluetooth is Bluetooth, right?

i ended up getting my switch 2 invite from the nintendo store. i signed up to get a gamecube controller so i can play windwaker with the gremlins and a cary case. bafflingly they didn't also sell extra docks at the time. I was planning to buy another dock to leave at grammas house so i can send the switch 2 with them and not undo the horrifying tangle of wires behind my TV but i guess nintendo don't want money just yet.
