Is there such a thing as Virtual Boy emulators? I don't think I ever even thought about this before in the 27 years I've been emulating things. I'd kinda like to play the Wario Land game for VB (and that's it lol) since it's the only Wario Land game I had no way to play as a kid. Emulation on a normal screen would probably make the system actually crisp/playable too. Kinda like how Switch emulation makes the system actually have nice graphics, and Wii emulation lets you get rid of some of the stupid waggle-motion.

Goddamn, Nintendo.
just stare at the sun for 2mins and play any game

Received my invite from Nintendo to buy this thing by Friday the 13th.

Nah.

No games worth a shit aside from Metroid Prime 4 which has no official release date. No new Zelda. 3rd party sucks on this thing and if I wanted portable I would just get a Steam Deck. Any decent 1st party title worth paying 500 for a 4 year old system, there would need to be about 20 titles and by then there will be an OLED version or can just skip this thing entirely.

This fucking piece of hardware all put together at 20% profit on the hardware isn't more than $349.

Fuck em.

Plus no one should do anything on Friday the 13th except watch the old movies.

And them jacking prices to $79 in some aspects, really fuck them.

Remindsme of the old days when no one wanted to work with Nintendo because of their official seal of quality crap in the 80's when they gauged publishers and developers.

Yeah I have to admit I'm having a bit of buyer's remorse. Like I know I'd get one eventually for Duskbloods and the next Xenoblade/Zelda game but right now there just isn't enough. Mario Kart World is fine but I'm not a huge fan of the series, and due to the display being mid some games I'd rather just play on the OLED model. Hoping for some more patches to trickle down for now. My OLED Steam Deck just feels like a much better machine.

No buyer's remorse here. Was going to get it within a few months regardless for Prime 4, and now I don't need to worry about hunting one down. The price won't change at all in the meantime (hell, according to the MSM it'll go UP because tariffs are comin' to get us lol) so it isn't a situation where I spent a lot on something I could have gotten for cheap in a few months.

That said, there's still no real reason to get one and Nintendo is great at talking fanboys out of their money.

My thoughts exactly. I think it's a little harder to justify buying this for people who already own a Switch OLED though.. I only had the original 2017 Switch so for me Switch 2 is a really big upgrade, it's both larger and lighter, and the games load much faster, plus I was going to play MKW on release anyway because both my wife and kid love it. I have DK Bananza already pre-ordered because it looks great and it should be fun to play a 3D open-world DK game, the last one was ages ago back on N64 and it was pretty great back then too.

As I got a PS5 recently, I feel like the PS5 and Switch have different uses for me. I'll play AAA games on the PS5 but for games with simpler graphics or that don't require a super high framerate, I'm fine playing them on Switch 2 because I like being able to play handheld even at home. Plus there's the actual Nintendo properties that I'll play like Metroid, DK, the inevitable Mario games, and maybe a Zelda game or two (the smaller ones like Echoes of Wisdom or the remakes they made, not the huge ones like BotW/TotK that take 6 years to develop).

As for the outrage about the price of the games, I've seen them around 50/60 in most places, so again that's probably not going to be as big of an issue as anticipated. The only thing I don't like so far is the emphasis on digital games, I was disappointed to receive a code for MKW in my Switch 2 MKW bundle, I'd have prefered a physical box with the cartridge. And I've seen bullshit like the Split Fiction physical box having the slot for the cartridge filled with plastic and instead you get a code to download it, that's really lame.

MKW takes about a third of the Switch 2's storage, so I hope they'll hurry up releasing more 1TB SD Express cards and that the prices will go down relatively quickly, I don't like having to delete and redownload games later.

If you have Nintendo online 2 expansion packs- you can get BOTW and TOTK switch 2 upgrade for free…

For /that specific user/ that is the Nintendo online user… kinda gay .. and i think the download killed my BOTW saves when it reverts it back to the “normal” version it started me over..but I didnt mess with it that much.

I did play on the “main” account to see the difference- the FPS difference is wild. I never really “noticed” it as it was what it was- but now- whew.

Not worth the price of switch 2 lol, but it is “nice to have”

Actually i would say its like when i moved from wiiU BOTW to switch.

lol BOTW has 3 generations of Nintendo platforms it was fully released on as /the same game/

Do I need an SD card for the Switch 2? Sounds like it. The one I had in the Switch 1 doesn't work in Switch 2, despite being a pretty standard card. Heard that's been the case with a lot of folks. No idea what cards DO work with the Switch 2. Maybe I can get by without it for a while, since there are only like three Switch 2 games I'm going to even play this year (DK and Metroid are the other two).

Not liking this stuff about new game cases having a download code in them instead of a game. That means zero resale value, more money for Nintendo.

Everything about the Switch 2 so far has reeked of making money, from the overpriced Zelda ports (that nobody needs if they have the originals) to the prices in general to the Switch Online Expansion Pack to the download codes / virtual game card bullshit, to the selling people things they already have, and on and on.

There's a Skyrim port on the eShop for $60 lololol

Was about to say, Miyamoto was right, BOTW really IS Nintendo's Skyrim.

Hard to believe I've never played more than 2 hours or so of BOTW. Wasn't a fan of the washed-out, undetailed look on Switch 1, for years it has struck me as a way-inferior Elden Ring. Like everything it does, Elden Ring does way better, as far as open world sword-and-sorcery games with freedom and a zillion locations go.

That said, strongly considering picking up my "Zelda Crusade" that my friend tasked me with 20 years ago, mainly to have something to do on the new system and something to play with this new controller. Once I finish tooling around with Mario Odyssey, anyway.

What I've got left:
-Echoes of Wisdom
-Skyward Sword
-BOTW
-TOTK

Not sure what order to go in, bounced off Skyward Sword a few times too (the motion controlled flight sequences are atrocious).

Well, you should definitely play BOTW before TOTK, since TOTK is the sequel to BOTW.

Skyward Sword can be played any time, it's really the "first" Zelda in the history of the franchise, establishing lore as to the origins of the whole mythos (to mixed reactions). I'm not a big fan of the character design or the motion control gameplay for it however so I never replayed it after finishing it back when it came out but it's still worth playing I'd say.

Echoes of Wisdom is a much smaller game, very fun and quirky with its unique gameplay of summoning items and enemies to do the work for you, I really enjoyed it. Plus you play as Princess Zelda throughout which is kind of unique in this franchise.

I'd recommend adding a "Zelda-adjacent" game to your crusade, once you've played BOTW. Hyrule Warriors : Age of Calamity. It's a Dynasty Warriors type of game (so massive battles on huge battlefields, with objectives and missions, you're always playing as important Zelda characters and wreaking havoc on the enemies). The first game (Hyrule Warriors) was okay but I wasn't a fan of the completely made up story for it with new characters, however Age of Calamity is an integral part of the lore of BOTW and honestly makes it even better, the cinematics are great and all the voice actors from BOTW did the voice work for AoC so it really ties it together.

Honestly not sure why anybody would go through any particular hoops to buy a Switch 2. For me lining up was a chance to do a social event for a system launch for the first time since the Wii, and had very little to do with the actual system.

The system itself has like...nothing to it currently. Single-player Mario Kart is pretty much completely finishable in less time than the average workday, and everything else on the system are things we've had on PS5 for years. The Zeldas and Mario Odyssey having upgraded framerates is a neat plus (and something to do after finishing the one game, especially if someone hasn't played them already) and that's about it.

Once it gets Metroid Prime 4 and some more games it'll be worth having, but currently there is absolutely no reason to go out of your way for this system. You're basically paying $500 to play Mario Kart, which is a bit much even for Nintendo fanboys.

I remember spending the night outside of Best Buy for both PS2, Wii & trying to for PS3 (I was too late for that one, the line was full). I doubt I'll ever do that again. Anymore, I just hit up Amazon when I'm in the mood for something new. Dunno if Switch2 will become that mood, but I guess time will tell.

Yeah, I've played the Hyrule Warriors duo. The second one made very little sense to me due to not playing BOTW but I absorbed a fair amount of it.

Is Echoes of Wisdom short? That'd be a cool thing to run through if it's on the short side.

I think I'll probably park Skyward since trying to get into that one is the main thing I kept bouncing off of, and try to hit up BOTW next. Getting to play BOTW/TOTK for the first time is probably a pretty big deal.

Short compared to a regular other video game? Not particularly, I'd say probably around 15/20 hours or so to finish it entirely for me. Short compared to BOTW/TOTK? Oh yes. Those are more like 60/70 hours to complete or 150+ hours to 100% finish everything reasonable (meaning excluding the 900 korok seeds to find in each, I never did that).

If I can provide some advice for BOTW, don't get hung up on the weapons durability. It's a big (and mostly negatively received) change that they put in weapons that break quite easily in the game, but I recommend not worrying too much about it. You're quickly given several abilities that let you pretty much handle any situation even without actual weapons (bombs and other abilities that are unlimited), you can find weapons everywhere (tree branches, brooms, soup ladles, pitchforks and almost all enemies drop weapons when killed or stunned), so just smash away and keep picking up new weapons.

You eventually get a permanent weapon (that can still take damage but it'll never actually break, just has to recharge for a little bit), and a permanent shield (kind of, it takes a LOT of damage to break it, and you can get a replacement). The only weapons I'd recommend actually saving are the situational weapons you need to survive in extreme environments (like keeping a flame sword on you lets you survive frozen temperatures, or an ice sword lets you survive very hot environments. You can find them in various places, but it sucks to need one and not have one on hand, so I always saved one of each in my inventory). Other than that, enjoy, it's a big world and there's a lot to do inside it.

I never got the weapon durability issue. It just forces you to use different style of weapons, 1h 2h spear or wand. Each has their ups and downs and forces you to adapt until you get overpowered.

I liked not approaching each mob or group the same way.

900 Korok Seeds? Sounds like the 999 Moons you can get in Mario Odyssey. You CAN do it, but why would you want to? Maybe if I were ten and it was the only game I had to play, like Link's Awakening was for me back in the day (got all the seashells).

Skyward sword is stupid

Yeah, pretty much. I like the version of Zelda that it has, at least.

Sad thing is, much like Twilight Princess, it was THIS close to being a great successor to Ocarina of Time. The dungeons are good, the weapons/tools are fun, the bosses are inspired, and the world is intriguing.

However, in both cases (TP and SS), Nintendo couldn't get out of their own way and had to shoehorn in stupid things. In TP's case it was mostly making you play as a wolf for large portions of the game, and in SS's case it was mostly the flight sequences and the unreliable Waggle Motion controls.

If I can provide some advice for BOTW, don't get hung up on the weapons durability. This is where comparing BOTW to Elden Ring comes in. I like having 180 weapons to try out, each with unlimited durability and movesets and special abilities. Find something you like and it becomes an extension of your character, like how I was wielding two Rivers of Blood katanas for ages. Then eventually find something new that's appealing. Like the DLC has three different weapons that I'm super into and can't settle on which to stick with (the dancing sword, Renalla's fire/ice twin blades, twin Backhand Blades).

Meanwhile BOTW is all "pick things up off the ground and smash 'em and find other things and smash 'em"

Just feels like ER does everything BOTW does, only better, while other Zelda games are more of the "Zelda experience" than BOTW is. Like Skyward Sword is more appealing to me than BOTW when I think about wanting to play a Zelda game, then I remember how annoying the controls can be.

In any case, I'll get to all four of them, just a question of when/what order. BOTW's probably coming up first. I'll keep in mind not to worry about weapons too much.
