^ yeah probably your best bet. I won't even recommend the Holy Grail attempt to get a 3000 series card, but if you really want to watch the Youtube channels that track availability go ahead. I'm curious how much 1080ti's are going for on eBay right now.

But for your sake, please God, get a new gpu. Just go single card. Building this new 3060ti, 5600x, 16gb, Dell 34" 1440p ultrawide build made me enjoy playing computer games again. Way more pleasurable.

Currently running a dual nvidia setup of a GTX 760 paired up with a GTX 660. Yeah, it's that bad. Yes, I am ashamed.
What vodoo and witchcraft are you practicing to make that possible?

OK, so I now come before you to see if I'm crazy or not.

I need a few card for gaming. I'm woefully behind, which I could deal with until Mrs. Haus Mrs. Haus got me a 4k monitor. Currently running a dual nvidia setup of a GTX 760 paired up with a GTX 660. Yeah, it's that bad. Yes, I am ashamed.

Want to be able to do passable, but not necessarily "max settings" gaming. Don't really plan on any passive crypto mining. Is there a decent "sweet spot" of price/value anywhere out there? I'm not even thinking about 3xxx series, thinking I might not even want to be serious about a 2xxx series unless one makes sense for a "reasonable" price. I just can't see dropping $3k on a video card.

So ideas? Or should I just keep mucking along as the digital equivalent of a leper?

Christ, if I hit the lottery and score a 3080, I'd sell you my 1080ti for a reasonable price out of sympathy for that setup.

So, what's a good card to aim for in the $250-300 range these days? Going to be ordering a new gaming computer this week.

They don't exist and prices probably just went up at least another $50-$100 thanks to another "stimulus". I found a 1660 super at Best Buy about 2 months ago, but even that ran me $350.

Well, I don't need bleeding edge. Where is the 1660 in the spectrum of cards these days? What about 2060/70/80?

Put it this way, Nvida is now making the 1050ti again to have a "low" cost option. That is the low end and they aren't exactly cheap, cards that were $130 new are now going for $300-$400 now.

Silicon chip shortage, the virus, CA has loads and container ships docked offshore waiting to unload. They have some sort of delay there not sure if it's virus stuff or what.

1660 is made on Turing tech, but its performance is roughly around the 1070-1080ish range. I wouldn't waste your time if you can't get a 1660S or 1660Ti. The base 1660 isn't that great.

The only reason I pulled the trigger is because I just needed something to tread water while I slum it up in 1080p at 60FPS, without significantly downgrading graphics/texture quality. I had a 1060 prior and even at 1080p, it was really starting to show its age. All this does is hopefully buy be enough time for availability to get better via production, or for the 4xxx series to obsolete the 3xxx and solve availability issues that way.

Yeah, international shipping has been a massive problem for us. We've been getting fucked in the ass on drayage costs, because so many supply chains have been absolutely decimated by China Virus shenanigans.

Thanks guys. I will put off the PC purchase for now then. It was a semi-impulse buy anyways.

Honestly man, don't even bother with a 1XXX or 2XXX series card. Try to win the lottery on a 3070 or 3060TI at least - those will run you $600-$700 retail, a used 1080TI is going for $400-500 on Ebay (I sold one BEFORE the tariff hike for $450). Doesn't make much sense. Shit Xexx Xexx is running around buying these damned things for fun

If he is running a 660 it’s probably time for a whole new system.

Haus Haus just look at pre-builds in a price range you can do. It’s the only way to go right now if you want to be selective in your card. Maybe a 1660 prebuilt or 3070 if you’re price conscious but want a good system still.

Ugg. Reading this thread was funny at first but now it's getting ugly with the chip shortages. Just praying that my 2080 doesn't give up the ghost before things get back to normal.

If you're on a 1060 or worse, have shitty internals(low wattage power supply, bad HDs, etc.) I'd definitely just buy a prebuilt. I kinda wish I had done that prior to prices going full retard. I still might, but having to pay for useless HD space, a useless power supply, and a useless Win 10 key is what rustles my jimmies about prebuilt. I'm paying for 3 things that I'd literally just put in the trash.
