I've come full circle on this gfx card odyssey.

Started in October, had a 3700x 1080TI. Got a 3080 somehow on release day that I eventually sold to Hekotat (for peanuts, PEANUTS!!). Decided I'd rather "downsize" to a 3070 as I'm only pushing a 1440p monitor UW (mistakes were made). Upgraded CPU to a 5900x and got a 3070 through newegg somehow at retail. Had a ton of in game freezes, hitches, crashes etc. Yolo'd a 6800xt thinking the VGA was the issue (paid $1000 for an ASUS reference). Machine was working fine then started to freeze, crash, etc. Tried everything. For weeks. 10's of hours. No dice. Memory changes. PSU Changes. The works (mistakes again, were made).

Saw an Omen 30L last week with a 10850K/3070/32GB Ram for $1700 and bought it to hopefully end the annoying drama that was my AMD DIY PC. Showed up 6 days after order lookin' like a snack.

All drama eliminated, everything works great, no crashes/freezes etc - but I'm left with a PC that sounds like an aircraft carrier while playing games (why these prebuilds always skimp on cooling/air flow I'll never know). Have a new case coming I plan to re-home this OMEN to with new fans, etc.

Long story short, about to flip the 6800xt for $1400, 5900x for $800, mobo for $300 Ram for $ 180 and be done with the nonsense that was the past 5 months. Springbok #OUT

TL;DR version

spring becomes a Longhorns fan, had a sex change, doesn’t have a decent gaming PC anymore and somehow makes Hekotat Hekotat look like a boss.

So when they start making all the new TI variants have this blocked crypto it will do nothing as that will also be cracked.

I’ve tried to follow this but I’m assuming GN or LTT will be getting these in house to test against the “unlocked” variant’s and see if there’s any difference or if unlocking impacts that. Basically just see if Nvidia is lying about the whole “wouldn’t be real 30X0 cards anyway.”

I'm really fucking tempted to pull the trigger on a 10900k. 5900x is just flat impossible to find.

At 1440p and especially 4K, even a 5600X is just as fast with the 3090 compared to any other top CPU, so games today are just GPU bottlenecked like crazy. Unless you do content creation and need the extra cores, I'd get a 5600X and spend the extra on a GPU IMO because that's where the buck bang goes... bangerest.

Why not buy a 5800X? Isn't it mostly better than a 10900K?
Only really in single-core and dual-core performance - by around 5%. In OC situations, it also beats the 10900 in quad-core performance, by about 3%, but I NEVER OC shit. In "average" quad-core performance, they're basically equal. But, the 10900 seems to be about 7% faster in octa core performance. It also is slightly less power efficient than the 5800, using around 125w versus 105 on the 5800. 10900 obviously smokes the fuck out of it in multi-core mixed speed, but that's for server-based shit that probably won't matter.

Can't find a 5900, but you expect me to be able to find a 3090? Lulz. There's no fucking way I'm paying $1500 for a GPU, even if I was able to skimp and pay only $100 for a CPU.
