I'm amazed at how many of us had the 900 series cards for all this time. My office pc has the the 970 (I think?) and it still runs anything I ever play at the office in ultra. Granted that PC is overclocked to high hell - but it's still running almost a decade later.

The only thing my 980ti ever struggled with was 1440p. I've played a lot of games at 1080p even though both my monitors are 1440 just to keep ~60fps, so the 3xxx series will be nice to actually resolve that finally.

Also maybe I'll get stable/good performance in Tarkov finally. Maybe.

As mentioned, gaming in my opinion kind of fell into a slump. My 970 is in the wife's "hand me down" PC, but the only thing that she has played on it is WoW or Asheron's Call, and I've used it to box Everquest. When that's your target games it's easy to let it skate by for years and years. :)

have they driver fixed the vram issue? I'm pretty sure you'd constantly run into that problem if you set everything to ultra

I’m on an all new PC but using my 970GTX until the new generation comes out. Playing witcher 3 with HD mods pegs the card but I stay above 30 FPS 🤷‍♂️

I’ve never had any issues with 980ti at 1440p You have that shit clocked to 1400+ like you should?

How you liking the TI compared to Super? I got a 1440p 144hz monitor but my frames are not consistent with the super. Anywhere from about 115-130 FPS for Warzone but if I turned it down to 1080p it's consistently over 150 fps, never below but the GFX look like ass compared to 1440p.

those HD mods must really bust your performance because my GTX 950 managed 35+ FPS on Witcher 3...

I don't mind the initial sunk cost for going high end one year. It seems since at least the 980TI released (and probably earlier than that, maybe tied more to BitCoin?) the resale market has been decent enough to sell your previous gen and put that towards the current gen high end, making your upgrade cost incremental each year to stay at the top. You gotta spend the time to put it up for sale and coordinate all that though, also. Probably what I'll do more of this year with the PS5. Just get the new one and trade it in to upgrade for $100 when the PS5+ comes out, then another $100 upgrade when the PS5+ Pro Slim comes out.

That memory is just slower and used for remedial tasks. Never was an issue for the vast majority of people. The fact that Nvidia got taken to court for it was crazy imo.

Whats all your opinions on blower vs open air cards?

99% of the 20x0 cards I see seems to be open air in the stores here.

Many reports pouring in saying September 17th for the 3080ti, October for the 3080, November for the 3060.

Not quite sure where I stand on what I will buy. There is some talk the 3070ti is gonna be sub $500, if that's true, it's gonna be really hard to justify the value of a 3080ti if the 3070ti is half the price. I don't know - I was planning on doing the complete rebuild right around Black Friday, but if Cyberpunk holds at Nov. 19th, I'm doubtful. Curious if the 3070ti will make it out by then.

Tl;dr
3080ti is probably gonna have to come in sub-$900 for me to really consider.

Any gfx card bought since 2015 or so has verygood performance bc the baseline is the ps4 annd xbone.

Otoh, All 2013 cards were/are struggling with current gen. Even ones at the top of the heap perform way worse then ps4 and even xbone in some games. Like compare the gpu and cpu power to play games like ac odyssey and shadow of the tomb raider at xbone and ps4 specs and it makes you realize its insane the performance devs get out of current gen..

So i would wait for another gpu gen at least unless you always need a top gpu and/or money is not important.

Me: My computer is so old I can only play old games on it.

Also me: why should I spend thousands of dollars on a spiffy new system when all I play are old games?

The struggle is real!

its weird living in a world where you simultaneously have to worry about getting the rona and hordes of starving democrats wanting your emergency supplies but also "whats the best way to play Cyberpunk 2077... on a new PC with a 3080ti or a PS5"

Honestly the super isnt much different from the 2080 - maybe a 5fps increase in most situations? Where as the 2080Ti is usually going to be about 20fps.

I wonder how long of delay the 3090 release will be compared to the 3080/3080Ti.

I always try and buy whatever the top card at the time is. I usually wait a couple months and all the reviews are exhausted, and make a decision then. I REALLY hope Nvidia and AMD launch fairly close so I can make a great choice again like I did with the 1080ti. Price be dammed. But this time around...price will be a factor. I will spend no more than 1k this time.
