I wouldn't say it's the only way, just that I am not looking to sink a ton of personal time into getting this done, and don't know of anyone local offhand.

Sup Szeth. Have you checked Micro Center? There are a few builds that stand out below $2k in your price / spec range, including a refurb with a 3080 TI for $1,800. My girlfriend's is refurbished and it hasn't experienced any issues as of yet. If I had to buy a pre-built PC, that's the place I'd start. That and their warranties generally cover anything short of "obviously broken with a hammer".

That shouldnt be a surprise to anyone as Im sure a lot of companies do it. They're bound to have within a forgivable margin, the typical amount of demand in the market to give them an idea of just how much to release in each quarter.

If you can readily get their product at MSRP, they can withhold whatever they want. Flooding the market is a business decision they're free to make.

If you can't get their product at or below MSRP, then them withholding would be a questionable business decision because it would imply either they can't produce or they have a hand in the reseller market.

Found a 4080 at Best Buy for $1230, so picked it up - replacing a 1070 ti that frankly was doing just fine on 3860x1920

Why? That a 2.5 year old card got discounted at end of sale?

I mean, yes, pricing is a little retarded but its not super retarded. The AMD cards are about 100 bucks overpriced and the 4080 is about 200 bucks overpriced. The 4090 is clearly not overpriced at all because it continues to sell out. I'd much rather Nvidia prices the cards to sell at the pace they want them to sell rather than underprice them and have all the excess margins captured by scalpers while also making it impossible to buy them legit.

Double what?
3080 to 4080. The page is gone but it was what, 699? to 1199 for the 4080? That's damn near double. That's why they are just sitting on shelves. Halo products going to halo, but the shit that's supposed to be more reasonable not selling is not selling for a reason.

EVGA 3080 would still fly off the shelves for $500-600, hell if EVGA stayed in the game they are the one brand that people might buy a 4080 for $1000ish and not feel bad. But given the state of things now you might as well get a 4090 if you are willing or stick to a 6950 XT for $650-700

Everything else is wait for steeper cuts/discounts.

The 3080 was an outlier, particularly the FE. It was grossly underpriced which is why I bought one as soon as it was available. It was clearly grossly underpriced because you could never find one. Nvidia "corrected" the situation the shadiest way possible, by cutting producing of 3080s and shifting it to 3080 TIs, which were 1199. 6 months before the 4080 came out, 3080 Tis were flying off the shelves at 1199, and the 4080 is >50% more powerful.

Ok and the 2080 was around $700-$800 and the 3080 was 45% faster. So whats your point? Why are you trying to justify these absurd prices for these cards? Are you just writing down some copium why you bought a 4080 for that absurd price yourself?

The 3080s were flying off shelves for several reasons, not just the price. Uncle sam was putting covid moneys into peoples hands at the time and the bit coin mining was as strong as ever for these fucking cards. Fuck even older cards at the time like 1070s were going for $500 USED. Thats how dry the fucking market was at the time.
