On the other end, hardcore players will see cap in 10 - 13 days.

That should not be possible. The key is to make the "grind" so long and so hard that even the hard core players fall by the wayside and become casual after looking at the mountain in front of them. "Hardcore" players (which will turn out to be 1/10th of the hard core players you have in mind, the rest throw in the towel after a day of grind to reach level 4) should see cap in 10 to 13 MONTHS. not days. Grind so long and so hard your mind automatically turns to crafting/diplo/low level raiding, etc in self defense.

Then we will be getting somewhere in this genre. I mean if we are doing this, lets do it all the way.

For 2 weeks.

EQ was social media before social media was a concept. That alone had a huge part in why it was successful as well. And the up and coming age based gaming market (which actually is already here) won't be sinking time into this. So it's the relic MMORPG players who are going to look at this, be excited, and probably play it for a month at best until they realize "different time, different place, different era, and * I * was different." With some people (Around 500 or so) that think they are elite in a genre no one cares about being elite any longer.

All these relic designers do is chase the carrot that they had 20 years ago. And it is always the same result. Either a piss poor game, or vaporware, because they were never that good to begin with.

Careful calling in Vaporware of you might incur the wrath of the people who think this is a forgone conclusion.

Lol.

Your game: Sustained number of concurrent online subscribers: You.

Also, EQ was never a difficult game in terms of strategy. It was just long and tedious. Throwing some guy a corner for half an hour while a mob that didn't move but just hit hard while he was chain healed while everyone else in the raid ground the NPC down was an exercise in boredom as most watched TV while the encounter was happening, or fucking fell alseep. The leveling process wasn't hard either. Again, hard defined as having to actually play the game from a mechanic stand point, hard not being defined as taking 7 hours to get 1/5th a level at 51 in KC by killing the same damn pulls over and over while eating Wheat thins with Spray cheese and trying not to get any spray cheese on your keyboard in case you have to hit a button.

I guarantee you there will be no other mechanics in this thing than what was in EQ because they don't have the talent to make anything challenging outside of a long leveling curve based on a data sheet and sword sponge mobs with horrible swing sword animations every 4 seconds.

Basically, a Yars Revenge remake in 16m colors.

Doesn't really matter if leveling is long or not. It all depends on what provides the greatest gains. If I can tailor my way to killing dragons faster than I can fighting my way to them, I'd consider doing it. There are no real casuals any more who are content just dabbling with everything. At least not en masse and it's probably even more skewed in pantheon since this is going to be a niche MMO players niche MMO. The main thing to get right is to just not make the shit unbearably boring. If they can pull that off, that's a win in my book.

The botting for this game will be legendary thanks to all the poopsockers saying they want 6 months to max and then getting pressured to keep up with the Jones' during the level race.

You know that bring up a good point. Take a game like WoW where you are playing DDR and mashing buttons ever global cool down. Then you take an older game like EQ where the combat is slow as fuck, what ended up happening with EQ everyone started dual boxing and shit because it was boring and slow. Probably same shit here if it's grindy ass slow as fuck combat.

If the options are for the game to be quick and short-lived versus long and have some people botting, the latter is better any way you slice it.

MMORPGs were never meant to be a brief endeavor.

Exactly. Which they can't. And won't, pull off. And all it takes is one look at a video to determine the mechanics are based on the same pull/mes/MT/Heal group tactics as before in camp spots similar to EQ. But EQ had the benefit of having a social platform not substituted by today's world.

I doubt Brad will have the resources available to control the botting and hacking that will happen. He's using an engine that is easily accessible so people will be into his files in record time and 50k players won't support the CS base he will need to stem the flow. He also doesn't have Blizzard resources to try and play the cat & mouse game with hackers.

$100 says all the open world camps will be botted 24/7 and all gear will be up on eBay. While players complain and beg for instanced content.

I never even thought of the bots, but people won't waste their time botting it if there isn't any more than 5k playing.

Hence why the pvp shard will be better/more immersive. Kill the bots. (and report them to get them eventually banned)

As far as resources to stop/stem botting/hacking,etc. Brad just needs to go neanderthal on the punishment and when the slow wheels of justice catch up to you, you lose every account associated with your name/credit card (this is still going to be month sub based right?)

Hell even if there are only 5k players that won't stop the Rang Rangs from tying down every valuable spawn to sell.

And that will happen when Christie Brinkley shows up to my house naked with a large deep dish Pizza and some porn.

You're talking about a playerbase that has spent the last 20 years obsessing over yesteryear's game design. These are some autistic motherfuckers.

I think this was true right until he shit out this screenshot to main video game news sites:

View attachment 154259

and basically proved what a fucking worthless scam job he was running.

Of course there were a few (correct) naysayers right from the start, but the majority was positive. This almost instantly turned into literally 100% negativity when the Kickstarters was going and 1. Brad stopped posting here 2. He made massive mistakes on the Kickstarter that everyone warned him about 3. This is gonna rawk!

Listen, I just thought his quote was laying it on a bit thick, that's all. I think it was the whole thing about"wanting nothing more" that got me lol. I mean, come on, when has this board ever wanted nothing more out of Brad McQauid than to support him?

If you want to make the point that Brad lost a lot of support on this forum after bungling his initial attempts to garner support for his game, I'm with you. But describing this community as "wanting nothing more than to help him and wish him the best in his endeavor" doesn't exactly describe the atmosphere here about McQuaid projects since-- well, ever. This community as a whole has NEVER approached any Brad McQuaid product with the casually good-natured indifference of "wishing him the best in his endeavor." Nor have his supporters ever outnumbered the naysayers enough to describe the entire community as "wanting nothing more than to help him." Did some people support him and want to help him? Sure. Plenty still did even after rerolled skeletons and fuzzy trolls. Did others want to string him up for his "sins?" Absolutely. Dude could actually succeed at making the next EQ and plenty of people on this board would still hate his guts.

That's the whole point. Brad McQuaid is the single most polarizing force on these boards. Sad as it is, he's more polarizing here than Trump, Clinton, global warming, and NFL protests combined.
