... Can't wait to log into the game 5 years from now and climb rocks...
On the plus side, that will be 1 out of 3 of the new September 2020 Pantheon " Key Unique Features ", fulfilled!
No more do you have to worry about those pesky tenets, features, or differences that gathered pledges for 6.5 years after the failed kickstarter. ( They have been removed from the newly revamped official web site, huzzah! )
Nope, now it's clear sailing on a new horizon with Joppa and 3, yes count 'em folks, three Key Unique Features:

I'm glad they are imitating only the best game features ever made. I always wanting to combine my PS1 adventure games with EQ while keeping the same graphics. True innovation at Pantheon.

It's fucking boring to listen to, so I'll sum up the financial shit at the end.

They talk about how Pantheon's mostly crowdfunded, but they have some angel investors as well. When the angel investor money comes in they use it to "reach their goals faster". They have an announcement to make regarding funding next week and are actively speaking to publishers and potential partners.

It's pretty laughable and if you've ever worked in any business you can read the bullshit between the lines a million miles away. People are dumb enough to believe they have high level execs at uber software co/publishing house/vc wanting to buy into this trainwreck etc, so they simply maintain that illusion for the masses by saying this shit with the caveat that they "can't talk about it".

Just like their alleged solutions or designs for dealing with 25+ year old MMO problems: "can't talk about it". Riiiight.

Any company interested in acquiring Visionary Realms would likely only be doing it to acquire their debt, not their IP. There are certain very specific financial scenarios where this is desirable for the purchasing entity. Over six and a half years after the Kickstarter failed and they have no product you can download from their website. They have no persistent early access you can subscribe to or pay for to continue funding. They have exactly nothing in the hands of the general public and they have recently stated they're going to have to re-do much of the zone work they have demonstrated since 2015, due to climbing. They freely admit zone work is what takes them the longest. Huzzah?

Fully embracing hubris, they are proud to be in pre-Alpha for at least the past 6 years, and refuse to give any further dates of any kind. (not even for specific subsequent phases within a pre-alpha release version) They're that bad at scheduling.
Since the end of 2018, they've also lost at least 4 of their most skilled / talented coders, programmers, developers or designers. In a team of less than 20, that's not trivial.

At this point, just like Vanguard, the only hope this project has of seeing an actual launch in any reasonable time frame is if someone forces them into the traditional funding milestone model of video game development. Otherwise, they'll just keep passing the time and producing nothing. They had a third chance and burned it.

One of the things that will prevent future success is their unwillingness to consider painful options. If a real studio wants to buy them, what does the current crop of management and designers offer that company? NOTHING. None of their people are good enough. The proof is out there after 6 years. Joppa isn't good at what he does. The designers aren't good at what they do. Management hasn't found success in finding better designers or investment options. It's almost a monthly update on a complete disaster of a design.

When that round table was talking about them not just going with anyone and being selective...it's them admitting they don't want to be discarded by a better group of talent. Everyone on that team knows what getting bought by a real studio would mean...4-6 wasted years for them. Which isn't acceptable except when talking about the poor retards who have been funding them the past 6 years. That wasted time and money is acceptable.

This is one of 2 titles (Curts disaster) that were going to bring back some of the lost paradigms from the old mmo days.. both failing for different reasons .. i still think the old will be new again but from where?

And that's the final point. Anyone wanting to purchase the studio or invest in it is going to look for any of those four items:

IP - there's none whatsoever worth mentioning. Brad WAS the IP of the studio; his name was what might have interested people. Emphasis on "might".
Product - there's also none. The prototype is nothing worth looking to. A bunch of assets, a mediocre engine skeleton, that's it.
Talent - as you said, there's little talent to be found. In fact, you'd better hiring them and putting them on a better project; you'd get almost more value of the team.
Pre-existing audience - and we all know what size is the audience. The kickstarter crashed hard.

And that's it.
