Have a 2011 Toyota Sienna and love it. I drive a 2003 Toyota Camry, and my wife loves that we are a Toyota family. But +1 for the MIni-van. Shit's dope.

+1 for Minivan or whatever you call it. We have a Volkswagen Caddy for the family trips and a Mazda2 for the wife. The Caddy is all sorts of awesome for hauling the kids + strollers.

A buddy got a ford transit connect "wagon" and I have to say I'm a bit jealous of it. Big enough to haul his family and gear to go camping, but not monstrous like a fullsize van.

My wife has a sorento, it drives pretty nice and has a lot of room.

This is what we have. It fits a crapload of stuff. It's still a mommymobile SUV but the bigger engine and the somewhat more trucklike styling make it at least a bit less emasculating for me to drive compared to some of the others we looked at.

We used to always say that we would never be parents with a minivan. I guess we always pictured the old days of the Ford Windstar. A friend of mine got one last year and I after seeing it I realized they are actually pretty nice now. This year when we were getting ready to swap cars we mulled over the idea of a 3 row SUV or a minivan. We figured the SUV would be a pain in the ass to get our kids in and out of at the time since they are younger (5mo and 4yrs). Plus with car seats the 3rd row would be a pain in the ass to get to. We opted for a 2014 Honda Odyssey and love it. We figured in 5 years when our daughter is out of the car seat and can climb in by herself, we'll get an SUV.

Just did our first vacation with it (4 hour drive each way) and it was great. Everyone was comfy and my wife could hang out in the back to manage the kids if need be. Plus there was plenty of space to pack for our 3 day getaway to the moon.

btw does Ford sell the Grand C-Max in the US? That's another to consider. Sliding doors are win.

Today as I was relaxing on the couch, my daughter (21 months now) walked up to me, put her lips around my calf and made the most impressive fake fart noise I've ever heard.

I've never been so proud.

I was at a playclass with the munchkin and it's snack time. It went dead quiet while the 8 or 9 kids were eating. This dude rips a belch that would have been impressive for an adult. I was proud as fuck of him right then. I had him give me a high five and he had a HUGE grin.

Wife's been getting on my nerves a bit. Kid is getting pretty clingy with me. Some background, I'm gone when he wakes up and home an hour before he goes to bed M-F, so he doesn't see me as much as I'd like during the week. When I am home, he wants to hang out with me nonstop. I love it, wife is getting all emotional about it.

She claims that he must love me more and she's failing and a whole load of other horseshit that she's spewing. I look at it as exactly what it is, he's with her all day so when I'm home he's excited. She looks at it as she's second best.

Today she broke down because he fell and she went to comfort him and he indicated he wanted to be put down and then ran to me. Guess that was the figurative straw.

I hate dealing with women.

We had the same problem in the same situation (wife was home with the kid for a bit over a year while I went to work). Of course the kid will be excited to see the other parent, the "rare" one.

It's going to pass, and one day you will be the less liked parent for a while. Happens to all of us I guess, but men don't shit their pants about it.

Maybe he'll grow bored of you once you start the new gig and have a 25 minute rather than 2+ hour commute :)

Had a midwife appointment last week and she says 'we can do a check if you like for the heartbeat but it's up to you as sometimes it's difficult to detect this early (17 weeks)'. Anyway, we go for it and the midwife is just saying "lets have a go..." boom boom boom, instant find. Wish my heart was that strong, although maybe not that fast :) Played it for my parents over the phone after recording it, and it choked them both up, they didn't have this when they had me and my older siblings 42+ years ago. Not that life is a barrel of lemons but it feels good to be the bearer of universally positive news to my parents, they're 82 this year so the conversation normally revolves around who's died recently and their aches and pains :)

Then this week I felt the little fella doing flips, shit is starting to get real! 20 week scan in 2 weeks so hopefully we get the flavour.

You want to freak your parents out, get a 3d ultrasound and send them a copy of the picture.

Huh, we're the other way around. Heard the heartbeat for the first time around 3 months? Maybe a little earlier. It was faint, but definitely there. The wife hasn't felt any movement yet, but had the ~5 month check up a couple days ago and could definitely see her move around a little on the ultrasound. Caught a big yawn that was pretty awesome.

I quite fancy one of those. Living here in Greatest Socialist UK everything is free (they do charge $5 for a printed image in a little card thingy though), except the 4D ultrasounds, but then that's only around $40 equivalent anyway with a DVD of the scan. Wife doesn't seem bothered though, not against it, just not interested and it's difficult to get a scan without her there :)

Tell her you're part of this too, and you want the goddamn 4d ultrasound

I can understand the appeal of the 3D ultrasound pics, but haven't seen any that I thought looked nice enough to justify getting one. I think they're kinda creepy.

They don't do them until 24+ weeks so will see how the 20 week scan image looks before deciding. It seems that some maternity units have 3d scanners now that they use for the more detaiked 20 week scan, they use the older equipment for the 12 week when all theyre doing is confirming theres one in there and doing the spinal fluid checks.

Went to a family reunion type thing yesterday. Ended up being 3 kids between 1 and 2 years of age and a couple that were 2 to 4. The two older kids were dicks and parents were absentee so it was sort of shitty when they were around. But seeing the young kids, especially mine, playing together was awesome. I've never heard my son laugh so hard in my life. Also was running like a maniac.

One of the kids had dwarfism and some other major problems with his head. Has to wear a helmet, his head is badly misshapen, and he's a little slower. He can't walk yet despite being two, and his proportions of his limbs means that his legs are tree trunks of fatty rolls making him immobile. He still had fun and of course my son cared none at all about that stuff. Made me realize to be thankful for what we have.

Of course son passed the fuck out after for the rest of the night.
