This color blind thing might go down as a defining moment in GGGs history that exemplifies how terrible their UI and QoL is.

If you can't even do accessibility for colorblind correct, you're beyond saving.

un-fucking-real. This is just pathetic.

What am I missing here? Or is this the color blind fix where its a lower right hash mark for green, up for blue & lower left for red?

If I hadn't been reading the previous post, I would have honestly thought that was just part of the fancy scrollwork/art itself and never thought that was something different.

It's almost as if GGG is catering to the 4+2link scammers. Which, the scamming part of the last podcast highlights the lack of interviewing experience the hosts had. Boss service scams have to be less common than item swap scams.

So, I didn't notice the auto grouping on CraftofExile when I looked at fossil crafting a +5 staff. I thought I was having bad luck on a 10% chance, going over 30. Well, I had insane luck on a 1:851 . I just need a reforge keep prefix since the cast speed is a dead stat for me.

Wonder how many people will play next league, at the moment I have zero interest and every time Chris says something, it makes me want to play even less.

This whole thing has hurt them, they won't see the numbers they've had for the last couple of leagues. With games like this, you realise once you stop that you don't really miss them at all. I've still got a backlog of games to play from time spent playing PoE over the last 2-3 years, I've only played maybe 10% of the stuff I've missed out on. Other people will probably feel the same way.

Someone said in Last Epoch chat that PoE is just a casino with graphics. GGG fucking up this league has done that game a few favours, there's chat about PoE and why it's shit at the moment in general over there from refugees looking for something different.

It must be pretty shit to play at the moment as trades probably dead, they are already down to the amount of players they generally have during the last month of a league.

It's fine. These numbers being tracked are mostly steam numbers which are people who are newer to the game. Most OG people still have the original client due to faster download speeds over steam for the first few leagues it was available so it's not quite as dire as people think. The best part is the bots and fixers bought into the Reddit retardation so your odds of making trades when you send a tell are up about 100% because they're actual people actually selling an item.

A lot of the people who have played for a long time are still playing. Mostly the D4 refugees who are QQing.

The early part of iterating on a build is still quite fun, nothing has changed there. The point where a build dies because it runs into the "not worth more investment" brick wall has been noticeably shortened. And by "not worth more investment", I mean interacting with trade. 4R1B1G Skin of the Loyal that I bought for 2ex earlier in the league? Either doesn't exist any more or costs 15-20 ex. Phys multi and +1 phys gems wands that I bought for 3c earlier in the league are now at least 50c. This really kills motivation to try meme shit. Hell, ronne ronne is playing molten strike again. A raider, no less.

The game overall has definitely been frustrating this league. Trade is part of it, but there's more to it. Chris going on podcasts and saying "yeah, this is what we want, eat shit faggots" doesn't help. I might be paraphrasing there. Flask fuckup and untested skills. Mana being an unfun puzzle to solve(and sometimes not even solvable). A few of the new skills looked interesting but didn't pass muster. Cool 36 portal MTX hidden behind at least 2 conditional Expedition bosses.

Been definitely having quitting thoughts that remind of my end of WoW(Cataclysm) play time. I'm one of those stubborn idiots where if I can't meet my goals(try some builds, find something interesting to invest until 36 achievements), I instead start investing MORE time into the game because I think there's some unturned rock I haven't investigated yet and will solve all my problems. Maybe with what GGG did in 3.15 to player power, that rock doesn't exist. Or I'm a hyperbolic idiot.

Why not just stop and come back next league? Just for the 36? Because theres no reason you can't try out your build ideas then right?

For me, leagues where i play more than 1 build are the anomaly, but this league especially i didn't have any thoughts to extend my stay.

Ask the players that dropped bfa and came back for shadowlands how well that worked out. Now, obviously that's a poor analogy, I don't think GGG is mismanaging nearly as badly as Blizzard. But the point is that those players would have saved themselves a lot of angst had they just stopped playing at bfa.

The builds I want to try might not exist next patch. I would have been disappointed with 3.14 if I couldn't get my hands on a hateforge. I doubt it will come back in the same form. Lucky for me, those builds have major clunk, so it was effectively nothing missed, but I couldn't have known that until I tried it.

Sorry as one of the guys who plays the game I thought I'd give actual info on what I'm seeing and not feelsdata like the rest of the PoE Karen Community.
Wait...that's somewhat bullshit. The steam data is a subset of the overall data. You're just presenting different anecdotal evidence. The Steam data is actually the best data publicly available. GGG themselves more or less confirmed it was accurate relative to launch if I remember correctly. It is probably somewhat skewed for the reason you said. I mean, I'm a filthy casual I guess but i've always used the standalone client that I can remember. Same for all of my real life friends that played.

I mean, the FOH guild can say definitively that at least one of their members who played day one to usually last day of every league since delve hasn't been on this league (and some standard prior to that....). That's the level you're presenting.

Here's the Twitch viewer data:

1630635240048.png

As you can see, it aligns quite well with the Steam data and the GGG data. This is what anyone would call "actual info." Everything you spouted is equally feelsdata. I guess to some extent you could say "those are just the true bros," but you don't know that. All you can definitively say is that they lost about 30% of users vs. recent league starts. Their data looks more like early 2019 data. Was that Betrayal? I forget. Maybe Synthesis. And maybe they're happy with that. Its probably more in line with what their hardware can handle.

Here's a story about the launch of Ritual which had 265k players peak. Steam reported 157k.

Ritual GGG Player Record

So 2 leagues ago Steam made up ~60% of the total number of players. Has that percentage gone up? Yes, for sure it has. It used to be 50% according to Chris 2 years ago. Like I said in my post, a lot of OG's didn't do Steam because it had slower patch rate for years. How many? Who knows. But of my crew a lot of the people who've played for 5+years were largely unfazed. A lot of the people who haven't started until after Incursion or so either played a week and quit or didn't.

Like I said unless they give us the numbers GGG has, there's no way of knowing, but Steam is a newer thing for the game so I would expect a lot of the people on steam to be more recent to the game than the people who have been around since Anarchy and stuff.

Also twitch viewers is an interesting metric, but GGG paid people to play last league and I think a lot of people watch PoE on Twitch more than they play themselves so those numbers may not necessarily correlate.

Well, GGG said it was 23% fewer. I guestimated from the graph that it was 30%.

So, yes they've said they lost players. Sounds like they were happy with that. I suspect it was their goal anyway since they clearly didn't want certain players and were struggling to actually technically make that many players work in the game from a hardware standpoint. Frankly, I didn't see any anecdotal data that "OG" people did not enjoy harvest crafting aside from the Discord trading bullshit or that damage was too bonkers. That's part of the fun of arpgs. I digress.

In reality, I do regret buying a few of the supporter packs I did, but I got three years and change of fun out of the game, and, completely sounding like AladainAF AladainAF , I'm fairly well off that I could set a hundo on fire here and there and never do more than shrug.

So they said the number was 23% less on launch and the steam difference is 204k at launch for this league with Steam tracking 115k, or 56% of the total. So it does seem the Steam crowd took a slightly larger percentage hit than the standalone clients, but pretty close to that 60% number from 3.13 launch.

They usually post a breakdown on player statistics as a whole, but I think that's at the 2 month mark so we won't really know. If you do look at the the Steam data the line took a fall off after a week and then the decline slowly compared to the previous league.

1630639342212.png

So there's this huge drop off at 2 weeks from start, then the gradual burn out, achievement completions, etc that seems to happen.

For Ultimatum after 4 weeks after that point: You went from 92k (April 29) to 32k (May 27th) people. Total 1 month loss of 66% of the players.

For Expedition 4 weeks after the 2 week boom: 52k (Aug 5th) to 27k (Sept 2nd). Total 1 month loss (again, after the 2 week boom from initial launch) of 50% of the players.

Basically people who made it to the 100 hour mark or whatever that guy posted a video about did seem to drop out less. I'd love to see the number of players who dropped out before completing Act 1 as I imagine it's some staggering amount.

It's far from fine, the CEO doesn't spend 3 hours on podcasts to communicate with the players if things are fine. Whilst they won't be operating at a loss anytime soon, they are worried about the numbers. There will be knock-on effect next league too, losing the players goodwill means that they won't be buying any mtx next league.

Any company would be worried when 30% of their core customers decide the product is shit.

Also the OG crew saw a 15% drop by those numbers. That should be alarming.

Again, I don’t think people realize the number of “casuals” that play that far into a league. What even is a casual? do casuals kill Sirus 8/9? My entire IRL crew does and we play all league and miss harvest. Only one played this league. That’s several engineers, a pharmacist, and a doctor. We bought packs like mad. Sometimes both packs from a good league. That’s not good data, but it’s a nice anecdote that they’re making dumbass decisions if the goal is playerbase growth. They’re making right decisions to right-size play base to the capability of their infrastructure.

I thought ritual was a ton of fun to make new builds using original harvest. I killed Sirus 9 a fuckton and farmed the same content I always do. Does liking some gated deterministic crafting make me casual? It didn’t make me play less. But I also played the shit out of heist. I think the changes to certain play styles made me stop.

I'm wondering why Chris is eating the shit sandwich by going on these podcasts at all. Obviously there's the damage control element, now would be a bad time to lose a portion of the players as PoE 2 is delayed. Delays obviously add cost, Chris himself said they are burning though 10s of millions of dollars at this point. That must be a worry for them, a couple of well-timed hiccups can quite easily turn into a major fuck up in business unless you get shit sorted out pronto.

I think he's playing it safe and trying to keep hype buoyant about the upcoming leagues, however it's all backfiring a bit this time around as some players are more fed up than ever.

Look at the downsides of him doing these streams:

- Not a good talker at all, no personality, goes off on stupid tangents
- Divisive figure in the community these days
- Knows fuck all about the game
- thinks it's still 2000 as he's constantly referencing D2. It's 2021 and people don't like grinding unless you make it very fucking fun and rewarding

Any PR person would be telling him to stop doing streams and stfu. They should find someone, anyone else at GGG to do the podcasts, preferably someone the community can relate to and who knows the score with the game itself. He's just doing more harm every time he opens his mouth.

Welp, let's head back to the Expedition League and the updated gameplay for this version of PoE, as reported by Typical Scrub Gamer69.

I've been playing Mechwarrior 5 here recently so I am a little behind.

I am now at Awakened 5 and running Tier 14 to 16 maps with my Gladiator bleed SSD build. I really started to notice the DPS lagging even on rares so I finally spent some monies on a 2,500+ armor shield.

And I am still noticing DPS is shite. Lucky this build is tanky, and I know most of the mechanics. I continue to run Maven on bosses and her heal really makes the fights a DRAG. It took me a good 2 mins to kill the Conservatory boss because he blocks proj while charging. It took me several minutes to kill the Vault boss on a WHITE MAP (for conqueror fight) because of the fact he has immunity phases that happen a ton and the Maven healed him constantly. I just stood there and facetanked but it was boring as shit.

So whether this is a combination of a sub-par DPS build, nerfing of damage/buffing of bosses, or a combination of all of it, it sucks shit and makes me not want to play.

I have managed to kill Elder and Shaper guardians, but they are a real slog also. I have not done the fire guardian yet, but because the debuff gets worse over time I am not sure I can do it.
Kind of in the same position. I'm assuming your RT, you gotta go dot multi if you want to scale your damage a long with flat phys. I specced into clusters and while it helped, not by much. The build feels really starved for points. I feel at 96 I'll have a perfect amount of points though for clustering. Steel rings would probably go a long way, but I haven't really PoB'd my character. Running a 2500 shield, don't know if going up to 3k would make that much of a dif. I know switching into accuracy/crit multi would do a lot, but don't really want to spend the currency for that.

Certain bosses I skip (the lava chamber boss is probably thbe worst) cause they just don't feel worth it. My favorite bosses are the triple bosses. I can usually get them down sub 20 seconds just sitting there with vaal molten shell and a rumis and 3 life flasks means I don't have to move at all. Shaper/Elder guardians are a bit longer, probably around the 2 minute mark. Sirus obviously the worst offender, and I've only done him on A4. However I have a really long way to go in upgrading. Everything I have on this build has been crafted and SSF except the shield.

Here's the POB, I haven't done the configs or calculated Ruthless, I'm probably close to 800k-1M

What they did to the dot clusters makes no sense. There are small passives on the base tree that have as much dot multi as cluster notables. Even if dot builds needed a nerf(doubtful), that's just plain inconsistent within your own system. I haven't seen a build that should be using dot multi on clusters. Increased damage is generally better and usually comes with other benefits like Flow of Life having regent and hp.

A build I played last league used, Corrupting Fever as your only damage, is better with generic increased damage instead of dot multi. It's very unintuitive. Even more unintuitive, but also unsurprising, stacking aura effectiveness is even better. Assuming you use Pride, War Banner, and Flesh and Stone, Master of Command is a very good notable. Much better than anything you can get off dot multi clusters.
