Two cats, both are ancient. They can't live together because the brother bothers the sister constantly which starts fights. Sister was living with me, brother was living with my mom. Everything was fine for a long while, until the brother got needy and annoying to the point that my mom suggested either I take him or we put him down. So I took him and we traded cats. Everything was fine for a short while, until the male started randomly peeing on things in my place. After he stunk up the place (several spots where he peed repeatedly) he eventually had to go, so we traded cats again. I spent a while cleaning up as best I could and getting rid of any pee smell from the spots he peed on. Switched out the litter box. Now the sister is here and twice in two days she peed outside the litter box, right in front of it. She's never done this before. Two mornings in a row I woke up to a big puddle right in front of the litter box that I then had to paper towel away and spray alcohol on. I also sprayed that apple-spray (that deters cats) onto the areas where the brother used to pee, to ward her off of peeing "over" those. She hasn't done anything like that, just peeing in front of the litter box. WTF is this about and how do I get her to stop? Really not keen on putting these cats down over their peeing habits, especially the sister who is incredibly well-behaved otherwise.
