Showing the wife “the Last Dragon” for the first time.

me: you know in LMFAO sexy and I know when he says “like Bruce Leroy I got the glow yo?” This is what that’s from.

then Shōgun (the villain) shows up and she asks, “oh is this like the Shōgun book you’ve been reading?”

which i get the reasoning, but it’s hilarious.

I’ve read a lot of DC and Marvel comics, but never the original GOTG. From what I recall, this version is completely different from the original comic version and James Gunn basically created new personalities and storyline for the MCU. While it worked for this movie, I do think it set the tone for other failures where this method did not work (Moon Knight, for example). I actually used to be really into comics and indie comics until about 2016: I went back to university and the Dc/Marvel comics went hella woke at that time so when I did pick up new issues once Rebirth started they were terribly written. I eventually just stopped reading new comics entirely due to the quality drop. From The New 52 to Rebirth (and likewise whatever was going on with Marvel).

OG Marvel had some great movies. Blade 1-2 are classics. But even the OG MCU is killer.

Apparently Iron Man (1) started filming without a completed script. Every day before they shot each scene, Jon Favreau, Jeff Bridges, and RDJ would be in the trailer writing dialogue and calling up friends like Ron Howard and asking them for advice on dialogue lol.

I don’t remember which one, but one of those three said it was the most expensive “student film” ever made.
Original GOTG was a team based on the planets in the solar system. I was a kid who loved scifi and comics, so target audience.

Wife wanted to watch a Tom Cruise movie last night ,

Wife was on the edge of her seat by the end. This is a pretty decent flick, Tom Cruise is a hit man in town for 5 hits and targets a meek cabbie to run him around. Worth a watch.

Michael Mann movies are always great.

Wife and I watched 'Wonder Man' by MCU on Disney. I was hesitant but she wanted to watch it. We haven't watched anything MCU since the SheHulk show.

It's actually pretty decent. I wish it wasn't apart of the MCU, to be honest, bc those were all the worst parts of it. If you stripped that, it was just a story about a struggling actor in Los Angeles. It felt like that was the original script, and then the super-power stuff (which only makes up like 5% of the story), was shoe-horned in.

No virtue signaling. Every lead was a straight, normal male. The lead is a black man, but absolutely nothing SJW about it. It was how black men were written in the 90s.

I immediately went on IMDB to see if he did anything I didn't see (that I wanted to) and the answer was nope.
Yeah, I went back through his catalog not long ago and rewatched a bunch of stuff and got a couple I hadn't seen before. Some are better than others but all of his films are normally good and worth watching.

for the first time. It's something I really should have caught on basic cable and somehow never did.

Ivan Reitman came a long fucking way from this to Ghostbusters in only five years with Stripes in the middle. I know Meatballs was well liked in it's time but this is more like a work print than a finished film. There's hardly any story. It's just some things that happened over the summer.

Bill Murray carries. Obviously.

I was positive I recognized one of the actresses but couldn't place her. Which one? You guessed it. Kristine DeBell.

Think the second one has an alien at the summer camp. I haven't seen those movies since I was a kid.
