I agree it has flaws, fast travel from the wilderness instead of just your camp ought to be an unlock/upgrade by chapter 4 or something. I just enjoy the game far more than any of its flaws bother me.Load last save. Oh I’m 5 minutes away from the 5 minutes I just rode before this random event killed me and now I have another 5 minute ride back to get to the place I just was? Pass, I’ll find something else to do.
I’m telling you guys, I’m going to try and do the missions and just avoid all random scenarios so I don’t get distracted. But I can’t help but feel this could have been more fun if they hadn’t made it so punishing to interact with shit.
You guys are welcome to disagree or tell me to get good but you’re ignoring some very obvious shit.
I've run over so much stuff and been insta wanted, a few times I've played it out but now mostly I just reload a save to avoid the hassles.
FYI, if you're not hurting for cash, don't worry about taking legendary skins to the trapper. You can just toss them on the ground and they'll get auto delivered. You just can't get the money for selling them.Hodj some of that is dumb. Simulation my ass. You know why?
Holding triangle for 1.5 seconds to open a drawer and 1.5 seconds to take individual items out of that drawer. Rinse repeat for an entire house... that's not simulation lol.
Riding a horse for 10 minutes just to ride a horse is not simulation. Making things, intentionally tedious for, "simulation" is a retarded fanboi defense. Crafting items 1x1 or having to individually bring legendary skins to the trapper for 45 minutes. These things add nothing to gameplay or the experience. They just detract from it. You could remove these elements and have loot all just be a quick inventory note (you've looted X, Y, Z to your satchel) and this would just make looting things more reasonable. Same goes for skinning and all that crap.
I really think they just failed in the interesting tidbits they tried to throw at you along the way of doing stuff. Depending on your playstyle you will start trying to avoid them once you see what, "type" they are. Oh a prisoner wants freed? Wait the bounty is going to be more problematic to me if I rescue that guy and the relative reward of whatever tip he gives me is not worth the hassle. It doesn't have a lore or story reward either. Sometimes your good samaritan deeds net you a cool interaction later but I've found that to be rare. Or you get the type where you just observe some people killing some other people for no reason and end up the last man standing. Loot these dudes then return the wagon to the fence and get a reward.
I look at the map, look at the wagon and go. Oh boy. a 20 minute trip driving a dumb wagon for like $30 or some amount that makes it not worth the time. Also because driving the wagons is terrible and I refuse to believe anyone actually enjoys driving the slow ass wagon anywhere.
Contrast this to an open world game like Fallout New Vegas. With the hardcore simulation mods which is the best way to play it! It is always compelling to search around because it doesn't take an obscene amount of time and you're always finding various crafting components and exotic stuff. Finding caps and useful items all the time. Or cool lore... Or even Yakuza that is just so chock full of stuff to do and compelling, if retarded, minigames you are always having a good time.
It's a good game and it tries to do some cool stuff it just falls short of being amazing.

Just got this. I definitely appreciate the story but something that bugs me is the controls feel clunky. They actually feel clunkier than Witcher 3 which I didn't think was possible.
You’re not wrong. Speaking for myself, I mostly enjoy the pacing. It’d be nice to not have to get to a town to fast travel to another town, but I wouldn’t want Skyrim style fast travel from anywhere. I think Witcher 3 was the best compromise for fast travel as it was from post to post, but the posts were much more numerous and distributed than the towns are in RDR2.Load last save. Yeah all that is still in the vein of simulating the slow paced of a Western, the slower pace of life. Its about relaying a feeling of slowly growing tension, as well.
Money and every single other thing in the game is thrown at you. There is virtually no reason to be just casing entire houses all the time.
My point in my long post is this: Whether you find things too slow for your own comfort, that means nothing to the vision Rockstar had, and that vision included slow, methodical gameplay in most every aspect of the game. These are not negatives, they are just reasons why it isn't your game. GTA 6 will be out in a few years, that will give you the arcadey speed/action you want from a Rockstar game.
But we get about one good Western style game a decade, and clearly the pacing, etc. is what people want in those games, and that's because it lends the feel of the cinema genre that inspires this series. So could we not casualize and nerf it just for creature comforts when it would vastly undermine the overall experience?
Fallout is an entirely different beast and survival in 4 is more tedious than any game ever without modding in saving whereever you want. Shit is literally awful. New Vegas was done much better, but a much better team of developers than Bethesda will ever field made that game, so that's why.
You're being a ridiculous fanboi if you can actually defend that garbage.
Just in general... I murder dudes all the time (fuck honor) and have never had a non mission bounty over $30. I see complaints here and in Reddit about that. Just having a witness appear didn't mean they saw you, ya know? Even if they saw you it doesn't mean they identified you. I kill, loot, then run away. If someone does roll up on me, I murder them and ride away. Using a lasso or not violent means can be effective too.
If the law comes up, it's easy to ride away. Most of the time you can avoid then seeing you. Shoot their horses if your horse is shit.
When I bump people in town, all that happens is fist fights. Obviously don't loot any bodies in town, though.
The game is really meant to be played with extensive dead eye use, imo. When I'd find a gang hideout I used to be so methodical with my long range weapon and cover. Now I fortify dead eye and health and run in there with dead eye + headshot. It's a whole lot more fun.
There's things to criticize, especially if you don't like riding from place to place, but some things are just from people not knowing. That, actually, is one of my biggest game criticisms -- poor game system teaching despite the long ass tutorial. There's a lot they didn't explain or explain well. It's dumb there's no way to review those pop-up messages, too.
I don't mind the riding at all, rather enjoy it actually, but the cooking and crafting time is annoying. We all have our limits, I guess.
Bunch of bitches up in here complaining that not everything is handed to them and it takes a bit of work. How long do you think it took to make a pot of coffee in 1899 out in the woods? Sure as shit wasn't 1.5 seconds. This game is a masterpiece flawed in your mind or not.
