Fungi and their features do not readily enter the fossil record. Most of this evidence is pretty incidental, and the idea that some novel complex life spontaneously appeared is rather odd at best. There's been a lot of debate over these fossils for centuries, and the idea that they are giant fungus is still the most convincing/likely explanation imo.

Interesting video - I wasn't aware of crop mimicry/accidental domestication of things like rye and oats

I love the aspect of using it during disasters. You have an F5 tornado take out half a small town at night and it could be used to light up the entire scene as needed for rescue and recovery. There is usually always a downside to control. Having my house suddenly light up with no idea to what is going on is a concern.

I'm skeptical on how well this would work and even if it did work well, this would be a litigation nightmare and get regulated to all hell.

Allowing some random people to illuminate random urban areas would cause all sorts of problems

When will a Bond villain launch companion satellites that position the magnifying glass?

I read a bit about it at

I think it'd be less like illuminating a city block and more like throwing up a ring of stars as bright as Sirius. It would at least give a group of people something pretty to look at in the night sky.

I've always thought putting a bajillion mirrors at Lagrange point L1 to reflect sun away from some areas toward others was a cool concept. It could theoretically control weather, make more of the earth hospitable, etc. And also be used to absolutely destroy a certain area of the earth while being far enough away that few countries could harm it.
